Story
Meet Shrek, a gentle and loving sweetheart! This unique boy tries to play with every cat and dog he meets and is wonderful with kids. Shrek has been diagnosed with Methemoglobinemia, but this condition doesn't change the fact that he is beautiful and full of love. Shrek's story began in an empty field outside a rural Texas town, where he was found alone and starving. Despite his tough start in life, Shrek was overjoyed when someone kind stopped to pick him up. He's been through so much but remains a playful puppy at heart. Shrek is great with other dogs and does not have a mean bone in his body. He hasn't let anything slow him down and even did great during his neuter surgery. The veterinarians say he can live a long and happy life, and he deserves a loving home. FEE INCLUDES: Adopting an adult dog (6 months or older) includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, flea & tick prevention, heartworm testing, and microchipping. For dogs under 6 months, they receive age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, and microchipping. All dogs are spayed/neutered by 6 months, covered within the adoption fee. The procedure must be done at one of our partner clinics. To begin the adoption process, please submit an application on our website: www.hbwi.org/adopt. Once approved, you'll have the opportunity to meet our available dogs. Following the meeting, you can initiate a 5-day Adoption Trial, allowing you to take the dog home. This trial period is designed to ensure the dog is a match for you and aligns with your lifestyle. After the 5-day trial, if all goes well, the adoption will be finalized. Additionally, we require a home visit once the dog is settled in its new home to ensure a smooth transition for both the dog and the adopter.

Story
4-year-old Clyde is described as truly amazing by his foster mom. Despite his past, he is thriving and enjoying life to the fullest. His simple desires include a bowl of food, water, a comfortable bed, and belly rubs. He's been trained to wait patiently for his meals and to go outside only when given the signal. Although he still struggles with excitement-induced jumping, he's making progress. Notably, he recently greeted his foster dad by sitting instead of jumping, albeit wiggling with excitement. Clyde's gentle nature shines through when interacting with children, instinctively understanding the need to be delicate around them. He even follows commands from a two-year-old, earning treats and laughter in return. Remarkably, he shows no interest in chasing animals while indoors and is learning to respond to recall commands outdoors without pulling on his lead. However, his immense strength warrants caution around those who may not be able to handle it. In various situations, Clyde displays impeccable behavior, from resisting the temptation of food left unattended to interacting peacefully with other dogs. He's particularly fond of playing with his owner's son's dog and even took a nap on her bed. Despite never being confined to the crate provided, Clyde stays contentedly behind a baby gate when left alone. He shows no interest in the items in the spare room, demonstrating his exceptional demeanor. Overall, Clyde's foster mom struggles to fully articulate just how remarkable he truly is, emphasizing his love for life and those who love him in return.

Story
Bailey is an amazing dog she is 1 years only she will be 2 July 9th. She is very hyper and just needs a family that has time for her and will be more present in her life which I cannot provide right now. I bought Bailey at the young age of 18 and she was only 1 month old i wasnt prepared for a dog at the slightest and didn’t really know the responsibility. I gave her the best home I could and loved her the best way I knew how but my new home will not accept her sadly. If possible like to keep in contact and get as many pictures as possible Bailey is my whole heart and I will be crying while handing her off to her new family.

Story
Mona is looking for an owner who can give her constant attention and individualized care. She is a very kind girl and loves cats and other dogs. She can play a little rough sometimes but is very responsive to commands to redirect attention. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations with her potty and crate training completed. Mona has experience living with cats and other dogs, however, she would benefit greatly from a single-dog household at the beginning. Mona enjoys: - Walks - Rope toys - Fetch Challenges: - Excitement pulling when seeing other dogs on walks (not aggressive) - Large vehicles (trucks, etc.) that make growling noises - Separation anxiety Mona would make a wonderful addition to any home and she will bring many years of joy and laughter.

Story
·Intake Reason: Surrendered owner passed away; Adopted for 1 month & returned due to aggression towards a friend's dog·Weight: 65 lbs.Known with:·Cats: lived with a 15 yr old neutered male·Dogs: Previously lived with 5 yr old neutered male APBTx and plays in WCHS playgroups well; Would do best as the only dog in the home.·Kids: Unknown·Personality: AffectionateGreetings, my name is Cocoa and I am a friend to all. I had a lovely life with a person for a couple of years where I lived with my good buddy, Ranger, and even a senior kitty-cat. Unfortunately, my person passed away so the whole gang came to WCHS to search for a new home. I used to have a great time playing with Ranger but he recently found his new forever home; I adore him so I am very happy for him. You might notice from my photo that I have something called a cherry-eye and I have been told that the nice folks at the shelter have plans to take care of it; it will be great to have my vision improve. My only complaint since coming to WCHS is they wanted me to get on a scale; as an enchanting and sophisticated young lady, getting weighed is not my favorite activity. I am an active gals and my eye issue does not slow me down a bit; I still enjoy a romp with other pups in the playgroups. I also love to go on walks and explore the fabulous world around us. I do need a little practice with polite leash walking because I get so happy and excited that I pull a bit. When it comes to manners, I was so polite and respectful of my person's things that I was allowed to roam freely about the house when I was alone. Although I had a comfy pet bed in my previous home, I had the opportunity to sleep with my human in their bed and that was grand. I am an affectionate lovebug so cuddling all night long was quite a treat. In my previous home I knew to go to the door and whine a bit to ask to go outside. When I get to my new home, we will need to figure out each other's signals and routines; until then I will need plenty of opportunities to go outside to use the facilities. I have been described as friendly, playful, quiet and gentle; I am a big fan of car rides and enjoy a rousing game of fetch. I am a wiggle-butt with loads of love to give and I promise to be loyal to you forever. Stop by and ask to meet Cocoa, I think we will have a magnificent life together.#1

Story
**Ziba is being adopted out from her foster home, where she's learning sign language! Please call WCHS to set up an appointment if you are interested in meeting with her.**· Intake Reason: surrendered, owner was unable to care forKnown with:· Cats: lived with 2 cats, and liked to play with them· Dogs: went to dog parks previously, does well in WCHS playgroups; is in foster with multiple dogs· Kids: exposed to various ages· Personality: AffectionateGreetings, my name is Ziba and I am 40-pounds of special. My name means ‘beautiful' and I think that is very fitting because I am enchanting. My world is very quiet because I am deaf. Since I cannot hear commands, people have been using hand signals to communicate with me; I know the signal for ‘sit' and ‘good girl'. Because I could not hear you calling after me, I will be counting on you to keep me safe and out of trouble. I know that some folks who have a deaf pooch in the family use a vibration collar (no shock, please) to let the dog know you want their attention. I also appreciate it when humans do not sneak up on me or surprise me. In my previous home I had the luxury of roaming about freely when I was alone and also got to share my person's bed at night; that was fabulous. When I needed to go outside, I would sit by the door. When I first come into my new home it would be wise to watch me carefully and also give me plenty of opportunities to get outside to use the facilities. I must confess I am still working on becoming 100% when it comes to house-training. Lots of yummy treats and praise should help me develop that skill. I am a tolerant gal but I have a tendency to get overstimulated, so it would be great if we could work on some settle exercises. I am a smart lass and think it is important to keep my brain busy and engaged so I have been happy with all the enrichment I get at the shelter. I do enjoy romping with other dogs and am sort of a rough player but prefer not to share my toys with them; a girl has got to draw the line somewhere. I enjoy car rides and would love to be your sidekick as we go on many adventures together. I am friendly and outgoing but do prefer a slow and polite introduction to folks I do not know. Give me a few minutes and a couple tasty tidbits and soon we will be BFFs. I hope you stop by to meet me in person; I think it is lovely to increase my circle of friends and we could have a magnificent life together.#2
