Story
Beau wants nothing more then to be a big lap dog. He loves other dogs and is crate trained and house broken. He is still learning to share his toys and gets grouchy sharing food, but he hasn't been taught no, and he picked up bad habits from his owners before they dumped him. He is not dog reactive and loves other dogs, doesn't bark. Very mellow young guy.

Story
To apply or see more of Jack, go to: https://www.heartsforpawsrescue.com/219873/2023/2/9/jack Hey there, it's me, Jack Jack, a 3-year-old meatball (aka staffy mix)! Picture this: a low-rider wiggle butt with an overflowing heart of love—that's me in a nutshell! Wherever I go, I’m pretty much guaranteed to bring smiles and infectious happiness! I started my journey at Bradshaw Animal Shelter and was lucky enough to be rescued by HFP. My foster home in Sacramento has been treating me real nice, and the humans say I've been thriving here, whatever that means. Let's talk about my love for dogs—it's boundless! I've rocked doggy play groups with both male and female pals, and I even shared a kennel with two lovely ladies back at the shelter. While my intros can be a tad enthusiastic (okay maybe really enthusiastic), I adjust like a champ once I get past that initial rush of excitement. But hey, not all dogs are fans of my play style, so I'm on the lookout for well-matched doggy friends and proper introductions to set me up for success! Here's the lowdown on me: I'm housetrained and a pro at using a doggy door You can leave me alone for 3-4 hours without any destruction shenanigans I used to fancy my crate, but it's been a while, so reintroduction might be needed Toys and tug-of-war? Count me in! But daily walks with lots of sniffing? That's the jackpot for me I'm a road trip enthusiast—great in the car! Leash walks are cool, though I might pull a bit when I spy other dogs. But redirect me with some treats, and I'm real responsive to that! Food over bros! Couch snuggling? Absolutely my jam! Meeting new people? I'm the loose-body wiggly ambassador of friendliness! Now, a heads up: when I'm stressed or overly excited, I can get a bit mouthy. So, while I'm cool meeting kids outside, an adult home is recommended Oh, and about kitties? Well, let's just say I find them a tad too interesting, so a cat-free zone might be best for me. Ready for a life filled with wiggles, snuggles, and all-around joy? I'm your guy—Jack Jack, a volunteer favorite and breed ambassador who has been waiting FAR too long for a home now! Jack's Adoption Donation is SPONSORED! He has also received a $250 donation towards training with new adopters -- this means his adoption is free AND HFP will provide $250 back to adopters for proof of enrollment with a certified force free trainer. (Jack is an AMAZING dog but if adopters need help with his occasional mouthiness this donation will go towards supporting just that to get everyone started on the right foot!) You might be wondering what “sponsored” means. A dog is sponsored when their foster or a donor loves them so much that they cover the adoption donation for a future adopter. This in hopes that the pup finds his or her forever family ASAP!

Story
To apply or see more of Honey, go to: https://www.heartsforpawsrescue.com/219873/2023/4/22/honey-b Hey there, it's Honey B, a sweet senior girl with a heart full of love! I'm currently kicking back in Davis, soaking up the good vibes after being rescued from the Stanislaus shelter in Modesto. Let me paint you a picture of my perfect day—I'm a snuggly couch potato, living my best life during the day. But watch out — I’ll get my zoomies in before bedtime and be sure to make you chuckle. My hobbies include playing with my toys, being the little spoon during snuggle sessions, soaking up belly rubs, and catching some rays while napping in the sunlight. Outdoorsy? That's me! I'm a fantastic walking and jogging companion, matching your pace with ease. Now, let's talk about my cheese-powered progress. I get a bit excited when spotting other dogs during walks, but thanks to some cheesy motivation, I'm making great strides. What kind of cheese you may ask? I don’t discriminate! I am housetrained and trustworthy when left alone! While rapidly de-stuffing toys is a talent of mine, fear not, I leave the human things alone … BORINGGGG! Meeting new people? I can be a tad shy at first, but give me a little time, and my cute personality shines through. I've even mastered the art of shaking paws! I've lived harmoniously with another dog in my previous foster home, but I'm a bit selective, preferring slow intros and other laid-back doggy pals. Now, here's the thing—I've got a bit too much curiosity when it comes to cats, so a cat-free zone is best. Ready for a snuggly, playful companion who knows how to charm with a paw shake? That's me—Honey B, ready to add sweetness to your life. Let's make some memories together in a home filled with love and laughter! 🐾 Honey B's adoption donation is SPONSORED! Includes spay/addendum; rabies, dhpp, bordatella, microchip, and up to date on monthly preventatives. You might be wondering what “sponsored” means. A dog is sponsored when their foster or a donor loves them so much that they cover the adoption donation for a future adopter. This in hopes that the pup finds his or her forever family ASAP!

Story
Come meet Hammy 4/13 at Pet Department Store in Sacramento from 10am-1pm! To apply or see more of Hammy, go to: https://www.heartsforpawsrescue.com/219873/2023/11/18/hammy I'm Hammy and the humans say I’m a sensational boy…whatever that means. I was rescued from Solano County Animal Control, and life has been looking up ever since! First things first, I'm a pro on the leash making me the perfect companion for those leisurely strolls. Oh, and did I mention balls? I'm head over paws IN LOVE with them! If you're on the hunt for a dog with a genuine passion for balls, well, you just found me! I'm not just a ball enthusiast. People big and small? They’re all pals in my book. I also get along with my doggy foster sibling. While I’m fine living with other dogs, I don’t really get the whole playing thing so if you’re looking for a rowdy playmate for your dog, that may not be me. Now, here's the thing – I’m a little embarrassed, but I've got a bit of hair loss on my backside. I’ve been reassured that it will improve with some TLC. If you think you can welcome me (along with all my balls for fetchin’), I would be so pleased. I can’t wait to meet ya! $250 Adoption Donation includes: Neuter, Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella, and microchip Interested in adopting? 1. Please complete our online form at heartsforpawsrescue.com/adoption-application 2. We will respond in 1-3 days for a call! 3. If it sounds like a potential match for you and the dog of interest, we will promptly set up a meet and greet at the foster home Please note we are a foster-based rescue meaning our dogs are in individual foster homes throughout sac and the bay. For this reason we may only be able to schedule meets for one dog at a time (or litter). The average timeline between app submission and a meet and greet is 3-5 days. Please only submit an application for a specific dog if you are ready to adopt that animal within a week's time. Follow facebook.com/heartsforpawsrescue & Instagram @heartsforpawsrescue for more! Story
Millie is a super sweet and cuddly 8 year old girl. She loves long walks and her sweaters. She gets along with other medium to large dogs. Absolutely no cats or dogs around the same size, as her prey drive is too high. She has been around children ranging from 10 months to 8 years old in out of home settings. She enjoys car rides and to say Hi to everyone she sees. I am currently fostering her and need to find her a forever home or another foster before I move on at the end of April. She does take medications once a day, but I am willing to continue to pay for all medications.

Story
Petey really is a wonderful, giant puppy! He is sweet, silly, snuggly, and ridiculously cute. He is just about everything that is good in a dog. Petey loves to entertain himself (and others) with his playful attitude and his puppy-like antics. He is a toy addict, and he kindly requests a “new toy allowance” so that he can replenish his stash regularly. He loves to start each day with a happy morning wiggle dance, and he will perform encores throughout the day. Petey is an affectionate fellow. He only gives occasional kisses, but loves to get close to you; nuzzle you; lean; poke at you with his front feet as boxers do; and when he is feeling silly (which is often!), roll around on his back and gently nibble on you. When he’s not being a silly boy, Petey enjoys relaxing by your side and napping (often on his back). He is accustomed to sleeping in bed with a person and snuggling all night. Petey would like somebody who can spend a lot of time with him, and, let’s face it, if Petey’s your pup the feeling will be mutual because he’s just so much fun and sweetness. Petey doesn’t seem to have had much basic training. Truthfully, he can get away without it inside the home because he is an easy, good boy to live with! However, he is overly excited out in the world, on walks, in the car, and seeing new people and animals, so he would benefit from some guidance to help him behave calmly in those situations. He’s a larger-than-average boxer and is a lot to handle when he is overstimulated and excited, which is his default mode out of the home at this time. At this point, meeting people is extremely exciting, but meeting dogs is just too overwhelming for him to handle. Outside the home he’s comfortable only in very low-traffic environments. Petey had a dramatic entrance into rescue, as he was pulled from the shelter while he was suffering from bloat (a medical emergency fatal within hours). He’s incredibly lucky to have survived, and he deserves to see his luck continue by finding a forever home as loving and fun as he is! ———————————————————————————————————————————————— Though we were scheduled to pull Petey from the Monterey County shelter on April 1, on March 31 we received an urgent call from the shelter: their vet believed Petey was suddenly bloating and we were asked if we were still willing to pull him and able to do so immediately. Bloat is an emergency situation that is fatal within hours if not treated surgically, and without help, the shelter’s most humane option was to euthanize Petey. Pulling a dog in critical condition, when we know the cost will be tremendous and a good outcome far from guaranteed, requires a leap of faith. But we had faith in you, so we said, “Yes.” Petey’s condition was such that shelter staff was not sure he would survive the trip to the emergency vet, which was NCBR’s only option. The shelter vet bought Petey time by puncturing his stomach to decompress the gas that was building up. Within an hour of first being contacted by the shelter, a flurry of communication had occurred, an NCBR volunteer darted to the shelter, delivered Petey to an emergency vet, and Petey was being prepped for surgery. The low estimate for Petey’s emergency surgery was $7,000, and post-operative care and medication will increase that cost. But we are overjoyed to say that Petey made it through surgery and is now recovering in the hospital.

Story
Schatzie loves to be held and is very affectionate. She will walk up to you and rest her head on your hand or lap. She is slowly learning how to play catch after watching our resident dog and loves holding a toy in her mouth at all times. Squeaker toys are her jam and there are never too many tennis balls in her opinion. Often times you will find her rolling in the grass and springing back up to all four and ready for the next adventure. She rides well in cars, walks well on a leash and is potty trained. Everyone who meets her says she is an absolute sweetheart. The instant we met, our hearts melted, and could not agree any more.

Story
Zeus is very smart and playful, he loves toys and learns routines quickly. Zeus loves to play chase and tug anytime. He is learning his manners well, but he still barks and gets excited easily so he may do best somewhere he has a little space to play on his own. He is very friendly with other people, he wants to play and will go get his toys and attempt to engage you in tug of war. He likes to chase balls but is still learning “drop”. If you have a couple toys to alternate with, he will fetch. He loves belly rubs. Zeus loves his treats but is pretty mellow about mealtimes. He will take food from your hand gently. We give him food 3 times a day and he often eats it slowly throughout the day, he doesn’t gobble food or overeat. When we need to give him pills he will eat a spoon of peanut butter with meds with no problem. Zeus crates well; he will go in there easily if you point inside and often takes naps in there on his own. His foster parents are home a lot so he is a little spoiled with attention, but he is used to being in his crate alone for a few hours at a time. He is both affectionate and sometimes self-sufficient. He likes to be with you or cuddle, and he also seems comfortable napping in the ‘other’ room. We have not tested Zeus with cats but he has a strong chase/hunt instinct and always goes after birds or squirrels. Zeus is sweet but he does get excited and can jump or be a rough player. He is learning not to jump up so much, but he does seem to like standing up on his hind legs. He is also pretty vocal when he is playing
