Story
Meet Ruthie, 55 pounds of snugglebug! We adopted Ruthie in February 2022 when she was 9 months old. Since then, she has been living with our family of two adults, a senior dog, and a new baby. She is housetrained, crate-trained, up-to-date on vaccines and flea/tick/heartworm preventatives, and in good health. The birth of our daughter has meant we are unable to devote as much time to Ruthie, and the transition has been hard on her. We think she would be happier in a home where she can get lots of undivided love and attention. Ruth is very energetic and affectionate. She is very active during the day, then loves to snuggle and cuddle at night before bed. She benefits from daily training sessions to reinforce basic commands and satisfy her need for mental stimulation and connection with her owner. She would do well in a home with an adult who works from home, with older children, and/or an active family.

Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Tess is 3yo, weighs 62lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, is microchipped, and is house-and-crated trained.  Tess does not like taking pills; therefore, her guardian recommends a topical flea/tick treatment. Tess can sit, but doesn't stay and she responds to her name.  Scratch Incidents:  Tess inadvertently and without malice stepped on her guardian's toe, resulting in a scratch and on another occasion scratched her leg to garner attention.  Guardian states she should've adequately clipped her nails.  The scratches didn't break the skin, animal control was not involved, and medical treatment was unwarranted. Tess's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:  Tess's guardian is moving out of state and cannot take her.  Tess's guardian offers a brief medical history:  "She hurt her leg once about a year ago, she was running and stepped wrong.  The vet said it was a bruised ligament and she healed with just rest." Tess's guardian states the following regarding children:  Although Tess lives with children, ages 11 and 15, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with children, stating "She does not recognize her size and will run up to anyone to say hello".  Tess's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Tess hasn't lived with other dogs, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating "She barks but does not approach, but has only ever been in the house or in a fenced yard with no other animals".  Tess's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Tess lives with a cat, but her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating "I have a cat and the cat avoids the dog.  The dog does not seek out the cat".  Tess's guardian describes her as: Couch potato Barks alot Playful Likes to be touched Affectionate Always at your side Indoor dog House-Trained Crate-Trained Separation anxiety Tess's guardian describes her ideal future home: "A home where she can be with her person as much as possible. She has eaten every bed, blanket, crate pad that she's ever had. And yes I mean EATEN, not chewed! The dog has a stomach of steel. She would prob love a fenced yard, we dont have one so we use our neighbor's yard occasionally.  She is definitely an indoor dog. She does not like the rain, at all!" Zeke's guardian explains why he has made the difficult decision to rehome him:  "Living situation and can't be in a multiple animal household." Lunge/Attack incident:  In June 2022 Zeke lunged/attacked another resident canine; the skin was not broken and medical attention was not required.  Zeke's guardian further explains:  "Both dogs were allowed within same fenced yard.  Victim dog ran toward Zeke and Zeke was uncomfortable and lunged/attacked her.  Took to vet but no actual medical attention needed." Zeke's guardian offers a brief a medical history:  "Small growth (pimple like) on left hind leg." We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Phoebe is 6yo, weighs 62lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, but is not microchipped.  Phoebe's guardian adds: "Phoebe is extremely loyal, protective, and cuddly.  She listens very well and is super smart.  She requires to be the apple of someone’s eye and should be.  She can be friendly to other dogs but not all.   You can see Phoebe in action on instagram @phoebe_and_andre we love her so much and hoping to find her a loving home. She is happiest when she is center of attention, loves snuggles all day, loves to sleep in the bed and be under blankets.  She is a protective and proud companion.  She listens very well.  She knows:  sit; stay; gentle; down; jump; shake; come - she loves to be right by your side, rarely runs away when off leash; other hand (shake with left paw); go home (which is her designated spot on the couch or her dog bed." Phoebe's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:   "We are hoping there is a home better suited for our girl Phoebe.  She absolutely loves attention and playing, but we have a 1 year old boy with another baby on the way, and has a bit too much jealousy energy around little children.  She does great when she is the center of attention, so she would need to be rehomed to a place without children." Phoebe's guardian states the following regarding children:  Although Phoebe lives with a 1yo child, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with young children, stating... "Children are the reason for rehoming Phoebe.  We love our girl but she has made it very clear that she feels displaced by the big change in our household.  We have a one year old and another a newborn on the way.  She whines more frequently, shows nervousness when around children, and has no spatial awareness.  She shows jealous tendencies when attention is being given to baby."   Phoebe's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Phoebe doesn't live with dogs, but her guardian recommends her living with dogs, stating... "Phoebe loves other dogs and is very playful but it can be hit or miss.  Some dogs find her threating and escalation can occur.  She stays at a "free range" boarding place when we go out of town.  There are 30+ dogs at times.  She has always had a great report card.  We have also taken her to dog parks in the past where tussles have occur but nothing severe.  Phoebe loves small dogs in particular.  She regularly visits with a maltipoo. they play all day and love each other.I will say, she is NOT good with other dogs when she is on a leash.  Per her breed, she is very protective.  In short, because phoebe loves companionship, I believe with the right dog she would be very happy to have a companion but it would have to be a dog that is not threatened by her or escalates easily." Phoebe's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Phoebe lives with a cat, so her guardian recommends her living with cats, stating... "Phoebe loves our cat, Andre!  They have their own instagram because they are such great buds.  Albeit, Andre is a very calm kitty, I think that helps.  Phoebe has lived with a previous cat who was a bit of a grouch and they just avoided each other.  Andre is a snuggle bug and they sleep together and play fight.  Phoebe and Andre playing - https://www.jotform.com/uploads/LizLance/81263856341155/5863336631227940079/PhoebeandAndrePlaying.mp3 Phoebe's guardian describes her as: Very active Couch potato Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Fearful Protective House-Trained Likes men Likes women Phoebe's guardian describes her ideal future home: "I believe Phoebe would thrive in a home with NO small children.  A home where she will be loved as a "girlfriend" dog.  Someone's snuggle pal and number one companion that takes her on plenty of walks.  Someone who loves to sleep with her in the bed.  I think of a youthful person (20s -30s year old) looking for companionship.  Perhaps a family but with older teenage kids that could handle a big strong girl." Story
Say hello to sweet Tiger!  Tiger is a very affectionate boy who will be your best friend forever. He is 2 years old, 75 lbs and wants to be the center of someone's world, as he loves people, especially teenagers. He is very treat-motivated and easily trainable.  Tiger is very playful with other dogs.  He could be in a home as an only dog to hog all the attention, or in a very bully savvy home with one other friendly young dog. He did not have the best start in life, so he is a little clumsy when meeting. Nothing that patience and consistency cannot improve. Training and enrichment to help him focus would benefit him greatly as well. He is a curious, intelligent dog. A fenced yard is a must. No cats, as he will chase them.  Tiger really deserves a great forever home!  He is an adorable dog who loves to please people and he's so handsome!  Tiger is fully vaccinated and neutered.  He is in New Jersey (but adoptable anywhere on the east coast) and would love to meet you! If you would like to make Tiger a much loved part of your family, send in an application today! Interested in adopting? Of course you are! Submit an application here! May 27, 2024, 7:51 am

Story
Meet Dewey PLEASE NOTE- AN APPLICATION FROM THE WEBSITE ALMOSTHOMEDOGS.ORG IS REQUIRED prior to any meet and greet. Calling, emailing and using the “contact us” link is not useful and will delay your consideration in the adoption of the dog. Petfinder inquires are not sent to us. Hi there! My name is Dewey and I am 50% chihuahua and 50% land seal! 30 pounds at 1.5 years old, housebroken and crate trained-really just the perfect dog. Don't you love my Gorgeous Blue Coloring? What does that mean you ask? Well it means I am a bundle of lovable energy! I do get nervous in new places and meeting new people but once I am comfortable I come right out of my shell and become a lovable, wiggly boy who wants nothing more than to entertain you! I like to chew toys, play fetch, cuddle and laze around in the sun. I also love running and doing zoomies (had surgery on two bad knees, they are better than they have ever been and I can run like the wind). I am going to be a pocket rocket! I'm also very gentle at eating out of the palm of your hand. Land seals are herd creatures so my ideal family will have another dog around my size to play and run with or smaller, or I will be fine in a home without other dogs being the center of your attention. Dewey knows many commands including sit, down, drop it, and stay and is super loving. Loves fetch, is housebroken and very loving, loves to go for long walks. He will be initially nervous with other animals and will need a slow introduction and has lived with other dogs most of his life (the cat in the current foster home scares him). Watch this sweet boy's videos Dewey gets the zoomies... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x6gf3Yuze8 Dewey is such a good smart boy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scogUNyHOXc Dewey loves to fetch... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq9Gc5E4B2Y APPLY AT ALMOSTHOMEDOGS.ORG (click on the word "Adopt" at top of page to find the dropdown menu with application) The adoption fee is $425, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including age appropriate vaccinations, worming, flea/tick preventative and spay/neuter. . All of our dogs will be microchipped. Because our dogs are in foster homes, applications are required prior to setting up any appointments. Calling or emailing may delay your consideration. Find our application on our website, almosthomedogs.org, then click on "Adopt" tab at top We are a non profit no kill 501 (c)3 rescue. Please understand that we do our best to describe our dogs but often we rescue them with virtually no information about them and often our best educated guess can be challenging.
