He came to us from a hoarding situation, and while he has already made wonderful progress, the world is still a new and sometimes overwhelming place for him. Sting is a shy, timid boy with an incredibly sweet nature. Everyone who meets him says the same thing — this dog doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He simply needs a little time and patience to feel safe and understand what it means to be part of a family.Because of his background, Sting is still figuring out how to “be a dog.” One thing we've already learned about him, though — he absolutely loves the ladies! He takes comfort in gentle voices and calm companionship. We believe Sting would thrive in a home with a confident, friendly dog who can help show him the ropes and give him reassurance as he continues to blossom.Recently, one of our volunteers experienced a breakthrough with Sting. Instead of taking a treat and retreating to a safe spot as he often does, Sting chose to stay nearby. He ate his treat right in front of her, then gently licked her hand before walking away. It may seem like a small moment, but for Sting, it was a huge step—and a glimpse of the loving dog waiting beneath his cautious exterior. We believe that Irwin is ready to find a home with someone or a family experienced with Border Collies, Aussies or another herding breed. Irwin has lots of energy and needs to have a purpose, a job or anything that keeps him busy. Irwin would not do well with apartment living. He needs his space to be Irwin. Irwin is VERY selective on the dogs he likes and will not do well in a home with cats.
