At home, she’s the ultimate cuddle companion—always ready for pets and snuggles, especially if it involves relaxing on the couch under a cozy blanket. When she’s comfortable, Opal is happy to settle in and relax, but she also enjoys following her people around the house like a loyal little shadow. One of her favorite moves is flopping onto the floor and rolling over the moment someone walks by, politely requesting belly rubs. Opal’s sweet and goofy nature shines through in everything she does. She has a charming little wobbly walk that makes her presence known wherever she goes, and it only adds to her lovable character. Outside the home, Opal is curious about the world around her and enjoys taking her time to sniff and explore new sights and smells. Meeting new people is one of Opal’s favorite activities. She greets strangers with a friendly demeanor and will often sit nicely in front of them, patiently waiting for the pets and attention she hopes will follow. Josiah is a loving, goofy, stubborn guy who is happiest when he’s hanging out with his people—or taking a well-earned nap! He absolutely loves people and will happily soak up all the attention you’re willing to give. When he really wants your attention, he makes the most adorable Chewbacca-like sounds. Fair warning: when Josiah gets excited, he can be enthusiastic enough to knock a grown man over! Josiah is potty trained and does well in his kennel. He walks nicely on a leash when heading out for potty breaks and exercise. He’s also a champion road-trip companion and seems perfectly content cruising along with his people. He’s working on commands and hand signals, although, true to his stubborn personality, he sometimes feels that following directions is more of a suggestion than a requirement. He loves bones, keeping an eye on the neighborhood, and generally being his family’s personal security guard. He’s a big, lovable goofball with a lazy side and a strong protective streak. Because Josiah is deaf, his family will need to communicate with him through hand signals and other visual cues. He is smart and capable, but consistency and patience will be important. Josiah does have some specific needs that his future family will need to understand and be prepared to manage. He is protective of his people and his kennel and does not do well with other dogs entering what he considers his territory. He can also become growly and snappy around other dogs or people when high-value treats are involved. For this reason, careful management, appropriate boundaries, and continued training will be important. Josiah also has significant medical needs. He has allergies and has had a portion of his small intestine removed, so he requires a very specific diet. He takes daily supplements with his food and needs daily wipe-downs to help manage his allergies. He has completed treatment for heartworm disease and will need monthly heartworm prevention year-round for the rest of his life. Despite all of that, Josiah has so much love to give. True to his name, this goofy guy brings plenty of laughs wherever he goes. He’s an outgoing, friendly dog who enjoys meeting new people and making friends wherever he can. Stinkbug has a playful, energetic side and absolutely loves spending time with other dogs. He can get a little rowdy during playtime, but he’s respectful with confident dogs who enjoy a good wrestle and chase. While he finds cats very interesting and may chase them, it’s out of curiosity rather than aggression—he’s already improving with guidance, but his enthusiasm can still be a bit much for most feline friends. He’s wonderful with kids, but like any happy bulldog mix, he can be a bit of a “bull in a china shop” and may accidentally knock over the tiniest humans. This happy pup enjoys staying active and does great on walks. He walks nicely on a leash and would love a family that enjoys getting outside for daily strolls and adventures. After some playtime or exercise, Stinkbug is just as happy to settle down for cuddles and relax with his people. Stinkbug is very food motivated and eager to please, which has made training a positive experience. He already knows commands like “sit” and “come,” and he takes direction well. With continued consistency, he’s likely to pick up even more skills quickly—he’s a smart boy who learns fast. There's a new star in town, and this one has four legs! Meet Duke, a handsome 10-month-old, 45-pound Bulldog/Staffordshire Terrier mix (our best guess) who is ready to find his forever family. Duke is a happy, playful, people-loving pup who thinks everyone he meets is a potential best friend. He's wonderful with other dogs and loves having a canine buddy to play with. His favorite game? FETCH! He'll happily chase a toy, bring it back, and do it all over again. And if there's water involved? Even better! Duke absolutely loves the water, so a family who enjoys outdoor adventures, swimming, or just watching a goofy dog have the time of his life would be right up his alley.
