🚨 PLEASE DON’T OVERLOOK MONTY 🚨 Monty is still full of love. Still full of life. Still hoping someone will choose him. Yes, he requires a special kidney-friendly diet. No, that does not define him. What defines Monty is how sweet he is. How gently he looks up at you. How he just wants to lay near you and feel safe. 🐾 Dog friendly (with dogs his size) 🐾 Extremely affectionate 🐾 Calm, loving, and gentle 🐾 On a special kidney diet He doesn’t know he has a medical note on his file. He doesn’t know that makes people scroll past. He just knows he wants to belong. Monty still has so much life in him. So much love to give. He deserves a soft bed, a quiet home, and someone willing to care just a little extra — because he is absolutely worth it. Please don’t let a manageable diet be the reason this sweet boy runs out of time. PLEASE HELP MR. MONTY TEXT KAREN 4136298152

Story
**Please read Barney's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application. Thank you!** Meet Barney, a 5-year-old Walker Coonhound / Beagle mix, weighing 55 pounds (as of 2/7/26). A sweet lady saved this angel from wandering the streets of North Carolina and brought him to us. Barney is sight impaired (though not blind) so surviving that long on his own is a true to testament to this boy's resilience! He's a miracle in every sense of the word and deserves, the best, more caring home to feel safe! Barney is a super sweet and very affectionate boy. In fact, when he was rescued by the random lady that found him, he slept with his head on her shoulder all night to say "thank you." This boy LOVES to be close to his people. We're not just talking sleeping next to you, either. He will fully lay on you! And guess what? You'll let him. Why get out of bed when you have this lover boy giving you a big hug every morning? Barney is great with every dog he meets, though sometimes he might feel vulnerable because of his eyesight. He'll occasionally get scared when bumping into things, but he hopes that after he gets adjusted to your home, he'll learn the lay of the land. Barney is also good with cats as the woman who rescued him had cats. While he only spent one night with the cats, Barney got the hang of being around them. Barney has only met kids on outings, but hopes to charm them too! Because of his eyesight, Barney loves interactive toys that make noise, so he asks that you pretty please be creative when it comes to helping him adjust in your home! He's good on a leash and is fine being crated (in fact, he eats in his crate). He currently hasn't had any accidents at his foster's house, but Barney asks for grace as he adjusts to the potty rules of your home. He doesn't know any commands currently, but if you're open to teaching, he's open to learning! Just remember to have patience with him. As Barney always says, Rome wasn't built in a day! When it comes to his medical history, Barney has Lyme disease due to the number of ticks that were on him when he was first found. Lyme disease has affected his kidneys, so he's currently on a vet-approved special diet that includes Doxycycline, Benazepril and other kidney supplements to help him. His foster has helped do bloodwork several times and his last kidney results showed improvements! Go Barney! He will need to stay on a special renal diet and Benazepril for the rest of his life; Barney hopes his future family will be there to help. Despite all the odds, Barney is still pushing forward! He's looking for his next guardian angel and hope it'll be you! Adopt this miracle boy today! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. To adopt or learn more about Harper Lee, you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, copy and paste this URL into your browser: WWW.GDRNE.COM/ADOPTION-APPLICATION [Adoption Fee: $495] ** This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally. PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. Story
Currently located in Chickamauga GA, with transportation available. Meet Luke 🐾 At just a year and a half old, this Beagle mix boy has already had more stops than any dog should. The shelter saw him not once, not twice—but three times. Thankfully, the third time was his turning point… because that’s when we were able to scoop him up and bring him to safety. When a dog ends up in a shelter over and over again, people tend to wonder what’s “wrong” with them. After having Luke in my home for over a month, I can confidently say—there is absolutely nothing wrong with this boy. In fact, he’s pretty close to perfect… you just have to understand the breed behind those soulful eyes. Beagles were bred to follow their noses and work, which means expecting one to thrive without proper exercise or a secure space is a bit of a setup. Give them what they need, though, and they will give you everything right back. And Luke? He’s the best of both worlds. While Beagles are known for their voices, Luke is actually a quiet guy. Aside from the occasional siren song when emergency vehicles pass, he’s been surprisingly low-key. With access to a fenced yard, he happily runs out to do his business, then trots right back to the door—ready to get inside and curl up on the couch. And speaking of couches… if you’re not looking for a lap dog, Luke is not your guy 😄 He will find his way into your lap any chance he gets and will happily stay there as long as you let him. Luke is everything people love about Beagles—sweet, affectionate, gentle, and great with others. He just needed someone to understand him. He is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated—and this time, he’s looking for a forever home that truly means forever. ✨ Beagle Basics: • Curious, social, and happy—but can be a little stubborn • High-energy and scent-driven—daily exercise is a must Luke has been overlooked before, but we know his people are out there. Could that be you? ❤️ Send us a message to learn more about meeting and adopting Luke! Now taking applications for a new lap! Story
Rex is a 3 1/2-year-old Beagle/Australian Shepherd mix who is ready to find his forever home. Rex forms deep bonds with his person and is incredibly loving once he feels safe and comfortable. He isn’t the kind of dog for everyone—but for the right person and in the right environment, he will be a very loyal and devoted companion. Rex needs to be with an experienced human, preferably with some experience with herding breeds. This is not a beginner dog. He needs someone committed to providing structure, ongoing training and both mental and physical motivation. He needs an adult-only, pet-free home where he is the sole focus, and his boundaries are consistently understood and respected. Experience handling resource guarding would be helpful. Rex needs time to build trust with his human. His forever family will need to be dog savvy, understanding the importance of respecting his boundaries and recognizing the subtle cues a dog gives when it's uncomfortable, to avoid pushing him beyond his comfort level. Rex appreciates having his personal space honored, especially when resting, so it's imperative that he is the one who approaches for affection, not the other way around. The reward for your restraint is that when he comes to you, it's because he truly wants that connection. He needs a home where he is allowed to settle in at his own pace and where the humans possess the self-control to let Rex truly learn to trust - even if it takes months or years. His people must understand that they can't let their guard down after a couple of weeks. His affection and approach don’t mean you're in the clear. It means he's starting to trust. A pattern of slow, clear, consistent interactions with him combined with structure and predictability will help the trust grow and strengthen. We believe that with an owner who is serious about building a relationship with him, he will be able to trust and will be a great dog. He's done very well with a foster who has worked with him in this way, so we know he's capable.
