Story
Wilson is a cutie and so smart! He is reliably housebroken and never chews inappropriately. Having another dog who has a rowdy play style would be a huge plus for Wilson. In the evenings he can turn into a great couch potato on the sofa while his people watch TV or read. In his previous foster home, Wilson landed a spot on his human's bed which he shared well with another dog and sleeps well without disturbing his people. Wilson is one year old and weighs 45 pounds.Location: Foster home The adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting Wilson, please call the shelter to make an appointment to meet him.helpingstrays.org

Story
Gorgeous Kody is a border collie who loves to be with his people and romp with other dogs. He’s high energy but absolutely enjoys settling down and is very quiet and good inside. He’s completely housetrained, trustworthy when left alone, and walks very well on a leash. Kody is about 6 years old. Kody had been an outside dog, but his former owners said his herding abilities weren’t assertive enough. Now, he is perfectly content gently corralling people in the home or independently entertaining himself. It seems as if he was never played with before, because he’s not sure what to do with balls, toys, or Frisbees. He’s just happy running around and playing chase with his canine foster siblings. Kody knows several cues, including sit, stay, down, and come. He’s good with children and gets along with cats. He needs a physical, fenced yard and would love to have a dog playmate to hang out with.  Kody is being fostered in the metro St. Louis area. ##1758527##

Story
Frost is a beautiful border collie who can easily get you hooked with his blue eyes and fluffy ears. While he possesses all of the great physical attributes of a border collie, Frost is as mellow as they come with no interest in herding or nipping behaviors common in the breed. The very chill Frost enjoys naps on his dog bed, casual strolls in the backyard and cuddling on the couch with his family to catch a great binge series. When he isn't napping, Frost will typically have his favorite toy in tow and keep tabs on his people. Work from home? Frost is the perfect office companion and foot warmer. Enjoy traveling? Frost easily and quickly settles into a vehicle and will most likely be napping before you leave the driveway.  Frost is more than just a good looking co-pilot, he's fully housebroken and knows hand signals for sit and lie down and has a short stay. He isn't a surfer (including countertops), isn't a big jumper and he's too proud to beg at the dinner table. Frost loves his family with his whole heart and as a result does have some separation anxiety. With a bit of initial patience and very little medication, Frost will eventually settle in and can then be left alone with no concerns. He also isn't interested in sharing his family with other pets (primarily cats or dogs). Frost likes to have his humans all to himself and doesn't care to play with other dogs. When Frost does venture out on his own, he'll need a fenced-in yard. While not a runner, Frost is a surprisingly quick wanderer who will simply put his head down and meander in a direction with little regard to where he's actually going. Frost's indiscriminate exploring is made easier due to his deafness (hence the hand signals mentioned above) and limited peripheral vision. Frost easily navigates stairs and can safely run around throughout his surroundings so there's no detrimental impact to his well-being, he's just missing an understanding family who might enjoy impressing their friends with doggie sign language. Frost is very well-behaved, but isn't overly interested in playing or the type of cuddling that comes from small children. He would do best in a home where the children are old enough to respect his space when he wants it. We know Frost will need someone patient and understanding to work with him but the love he will give in return will make it all worthwhile. Our adoption donation is $300.00.  This includes up-to-date vetting, microchipping, heartworm, flea and tick prevention, and spay/neuter. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns along the way.  Hopefully, rescuing one of our pups would provide him a chance to benefit from all you have to give! ##939766##

Story
Bandit is a 1 year old border/ aussie mix that will steal your heart. He's on the smaller side at 30lbs. He is 100% herding dog: super smart, energetic, loving, energetic, very happy, and did we mention energetic? All people and dogs are good, with the right introductions, and Bandit doesn't understand the meaning of personal space, preferring to be with you (or on you) whenever possible. He learns tricks within minutes and is highly food and toy motivated. We think he would be perfect for an active owner or even dog sports. Because of his activeness and puppy-like personality, we highly recommend no small children. We also recommend a home with a fenced yard so he can run his energy off. Bandit is housebroken, crate trained (as well as other commands), heartworm negative, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and neutered.December 10, 2023, 10:12 pm

Story
Turkey is a beautiful border collie/heeler mix who's about 50lbs but expected to get up to 60lbs+. He's a very active dog and would do best in an active household. He loves his dog siblings but is very iffy about the cats. His foster family was hoping for him to be a foster fail but realized they aren't able to provide him a perfect home so they will be extremely picky on who he goes to. He would do best with someone who has experience with both border collies and heelers as he's a perfect mix of both. He's very loving and loves to cuddle but only for a couple minutes. He loves playing fetch outside and playing in the kiddie pool. He's working on his leash manners but his fosters have found that what works best is letting him hold a part of the leash in his mouth while they walk him to keep him from jumping and pulling. His fosters would prefer him go to a home that had a 6ft fence, go to a home that has a tie out, or someone that will supervise him the entire time hes outside. They would also like for him to go to a home where he'd be worked, whether it be herding or a sport like agility, however, that's not a requirement. He's high energy and loves to run and play, but also knows that it's time to calm down when he's in his kennel. He's potty trained and kennel trained, however he does have an excited/submissive pee sometimes. His fosters don't want him going to a home that will make him a couch potato.
