Story
Emma is a distinguished silver fox who's earned the right to be spoiled. Finding herself in a shelter at 11 years old has been overwhelming, but with plenty of volunteer snuggles and a cozy dog bed, she's settling in nicely. If Emma made a Top 10 list of favorite things, cuddles would claim spots one through eight, with food and outdoor time rounding out the list. If you are looking for a house savvy pup, Emma is a great option. In her dog assessment, she was calm and tolerant, preferring her personal space over play. She'd likely do best as your one-and-only, but could also live with a calm, respectful male dog who is happy to peacefully coexist. While in foster, she has visited with a (very confident Maine Coon) cat twice and couldn't care less about it. Her foster mom reports that while she's not gonna be a "brewery" pup, she is a great gal, completely house trained, completely trustworthy when they are not home, has a solid potty schedule, and sleeps soundly through the night in her own bed next to theirs. She likes napping, fetching, and she know so many commands! Best part-she is HW NEGATIVE, spayed, and the shelter team did a dental cleaning on her recently! Mostly, Emma is ready for a quiet home filled with love. She is already spayed and up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, is microchipped and ready to go home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. If you're interested in learning more about her, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Emma, 268850". Story
Meet Kirby! Sure, life handed him a few challenges early on, and he arrived looking a bit like he'd been through one too many adventures. After a much-needed dental makeover and a spa day, Kirby is embracing his fresh start with style. This guy is polishing up nicely and proving that it's never too late for a second chance. In playgroup, he happily ran around with a female partner and clearly enjoyed the outing. When he realized she was a girl, he had a brief moment of misplaced enthusiasm, but he took her correction well and adjusted appropriately - showing that he can read cues and respond nicely. Kirby is young at heart, engages well with people, and listens nicely. He already knows how to sit and is very treat motivated, making him a great candidate for continued training. He was easy to collar and walk, though he can be jumpy at first in excitement. Volunteers report that he loves car rides and trips to the park. They also report that he would do best in a home without cats.Inside the building, Kirby can be reactive due to all the noise and commotion, but this likely ties back to limited exercise and stimulation. With regular outlets for his energy, this jumpiness should calm down, letting his better qualities shine through.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $1,000 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. Email healaheart@outlook.com for more information. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Kirby 265382".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Axel is a calm, low-energy charmer who may be a good fit for a home with kids. A little shy indoors, he blossoms into a confident, easygoing companion outside. Potty trained and knowing both "sit" and "down," Axel takes treats gently and would happily learn more tricks for snacks or belly rubs. He enjoys brief games of fetch, leisurely sniffing adventures, and a good chew toy. Friendly with new people and never jumpy, he trots along happily when it's time to go home. Axel also prefers to be your one and only dog.He is already neutered and up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, is microchipped and ready to go home. If you have other animals, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Axel, 239739".
