Story
This pet was brought in as a stray and will NOT be available for adoption through our program. All stray animals brought in are posted on the gallery to hopefully be reunited with their families. Each pet is evaluated upon arrival, and throughout their stay, at the Animal Center and we do our best to place the animal in the setting most appropriate for them. Sometimes, they may be better served through one of our Transfer Partners due to the intervention needed, ongoing care required or a quieter setting for that individual. We want our animals to put their best paw forward. If you are a 501c3 rescue and are interested in partnering with WCAC to help this pet, and others, you can find more information on how to help at: https://www.wakegov.com/departments-government/animal-services/community-partners/transfer-program If this is your pet, please contact us immediately at AnimalCenter@wake.gov Primary Color: Brindle- Fawn Weight: 40.5 Age: 9yrs 9mths 3wks

Story
Meet Zion!Zion is a medium-sized, energetic Boxer/Staffy mix with a big personality and an even bigger love for life. He's playful, confident, and independent, with a fun-loving spirit that keeps things exciting around the house.Zion is both house-trained and crate-trained, walks nicely on a leash, and already knows several commands including sit, paw, down, and gentle. He's currently working on wait/stay and is eager to keep learning with a committed family. Like many young dogs, Zion is still polishing his manners and can be jumpy or mouthy when meeting new people, so a home without small children is best for him. Zion currently lives with elderly cats in his foster home and he tends to leave them alone. Slow introductions are always recommended when introducing to animals and humans. One of Zion's favorite things is tug-of-war, and he absolutely loves playing with his foster brother, Avery. He would thrive in a home with another playful, energetic dog who can match his enthusiasm. A home with a backyard-ideally fenced-is a must, as Zion loves to run, play, and burn off his energy.Zion's ideal family is active, patient, and committed to continuing his training, understanding that puppy tendencies don't disappear overnight. In return, they'll get a loyal, fun, and adventurous companion who's ready to go places and grow alongside them.If you're looking for a spirited, affectionate dog who's ready for his next chapter, Zion might just be your perfect match 🐶✨To inquire about Zion, please email his foster with the subject "Interest in Zion 264064" to wcacfosterfam24@gmail.com Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 43.5 Age: 1yrs 9mths 3wks

Story
Mack is a gentle, old-soul gentleman who believes the best things in life are the quiet moments-a soft nuzzle, a peaceful walk, or a calm lean against a trusted human. He doesn't demand the spotlight or jump around; instead, he offers steady, loving companionship and a calming presence that makes any home feel a little warmer. In playgroup, Mack was respectful but a bit grumbly. As an older dog, his high-energy days are behind him. He can get a little squawky when other dogs bounce around too much, and his movements are slow and deliberate, suggesting his joints may ache. His pace is steady and measured, perfect for someone who appreciates a calm, predictable companion.Mack is looking for a patient, understanding human who can be his anchor-a person who will help him feel safe and secure in the world. He thrives on quiet connection, gentle walks, and the comfort of knowing he's loved. For someone seeking a loyal, affectionate, low-key companion, Mack is an absolute treasure.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $600 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Primary Color: White Weight: 65.5 Age: 7yrs 8mths 1wks

Story
Star is the definition of a "pocket boxer," just without the trademark pogo-stick shenanigans. She may be a bit shut down right now, as shelter life has kept her tail tucked, but her fun personality is absolutely there beneath the surface. With the right person, Star will blossom as she experiences the world a little bit at a time with calm reassurance and patience. She is sweet as can be and more than ready to snuggle. Star is easy to walk and enjoys gentle outings. She's looking for a loving home where her confidence can grow and her playful spirit can truly shine. She is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be spayed prior to going home. If you have cats or another dog, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. If you're interested in learning more about her, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Star, 266129". Story
This is my sweet baby girl Macy. She is almost three years old, although she still acts like a puppy. She has so much love to give and gets so excited meeting new people she'll knock her own self over. She has cute little freckles on her muzzle and an eiffel tower on her scruff. She loves going on hikes, chasing anything that moves, chewing on toys, and cuddling in the bed. She hates baths, extreme temperatures, and fire alarms. I found Macy a couple years ago in my friend's parking lot. We asked around to see if she belonged to anyone, scanned her for a chip, put up signs, but no one claimed her. I took her in as a foster and very quickly fell in love with her. She has been the best thing to ever come into my life. Unfortunately, due to medical complications that have come up for me, I am no longer able to take care of her in the way that she deserves. I want to make sure that she doesn't end up in a shelter, or worse, euthanized. I need my girl to go to someone loving and caring.

Story
This is Loki. I was driving in Benson NC last October and found him sitting on a bridge. He was not the only dog we found but he was the only one we were able to safely catch. It took a whole loaf of bread but we got him and he's been with us since. He came with scars on his face and legs and he was very skinny. We worked on eat habits while also getting some healthy weight on him. He went from 16 pounds to almost 30 pounds in the time we've had him. Loki is full of energy and he is a big cuddle bug. He loves everyone around him and loves meeting new people and animals. Unfortunately we are not able to keep him. My landlord threatened to remove me from my lease if he was seen again. My roommate also does not want him here and unfortunately I can't fight her on this. I would love for loki so go somewhere local and I would love visits and updates as he grows. We loved him with everything we have and I am heart broken.
