THOM, M/N, DSH, GREY TABBYBORN DECEMBER 3 2016NOTE: No children, no dogs, only very experienced cat people.YOU ARE ONE IN A MILLION AND THOM IS TRYING DEPERATELY TO FIND YOU.Imagine what it would take to transform loving hopeful eyes into frozen slits of fear or an outstretched hand with food to appear more like a threatening blow? It's probably so much better (for us) if we do not even try. We will never know all the challenges that Thom has faced in his 6 years of life. We believe he did start with a home but we don't know how or why he ended up on the streets. What we do know is something happened that emotionally damaged this poor boy's belief in the kindness of people and that he came to our rescue broken and in fear of human touch. You would think with the name Thom and coming from the streets, he would be a big hunk of a Tom Cat with attitude but in reality he is rather small, perhaps shrunken by the weight of an unfair world on his petite frame. In the beginning, Thom hid in his carrier in a cage and froze when being touched or handled by volunteers. He tried his hardest to become part of the carrier and disappear from sight. Just before Christmas, Thom came into my foster care where he decided to live in the backroom closet, coming out only at night when all were asleep so he could eat, drink, and use the litter box. Behind closed doors and in the dark he felt a small sense of safety. Thom is definitely a survivor and he slowly began to face the challenges of everyday living with humans. With each passing week, Thom mustered up the courage to poke around his little room. At night we could hear him actually playing with some toys and starting to enjoy his space more. Yet when the door opened or a light was turned on, he would scurry back into the anonymity of the dark closet.Time and patience has helped heal Thom significantly and he now has run of the house and interacts with my other cats. He does little dances as he waits for his morning and evening wet food, rubbing up against my leg in happy anticipation. He can actually purr when being stroked on his head and along his cheeks. And a major accomplishment is that he has learned how to play (with wand toys). However he still runs from me when I walk toward him and makes such pitiful cries if I attempt to pick him up or try to hold onto him. Thom needs to find that one in a million person who will have his back and always be there for him. Someone who understands the importance of patience allowing him all the time he needs to gain confidence while being loved completely. A calm, quiet and probably female environment will be what gives Thom the strength to love and trust again. One-on-one attention would be so beneficial for this poor boy. While he can get along with other cats, as he becomes more confident he also becomes more dominant and desires his person to be his one and only. Are you the one who will cherish him and transform this once almost emotionally destroyed cat into a confident and cherished boy? Thom awaits you, whoever you are, so please do not keep him waiting for his forever person for long.Apply at: https://ninthlifecatrescue.org/adoption-application/(Thom tested once positive for FIV however such testing produces many false positives and it is pointless to test again. He is healthy, enjoys his food, especially wet.)Location: Foster home

DUSTY (AKA ASWAD) , M/N, DSH, GREYBORN OCTOBER 26 2020Dusty was surrendered because his owner could no longer keep him. He's a little shy in new places but once he gets to know you he's a very friendly and affectionate boy. He's fine with other cats. He would do best in a quieter home maybe with older children. SCOUT, F/S, DSH, GREY/WHITE TABBYBORN SEPTEMBER 29 2012Hi! My name is Scout. I'm a bit of an older girl and I have lots of love to give. I can be anxious and shy at first, and once I feel comfortable and safe, I enjoy snuggles and getting pets. I get along with people and dogs, but I'm not a fan of other cats and need to be the only feline in the house. I was surrendered at the vet because I had a common infection. I am all healed now and I just need some urinary food now.Location: Foster Home

CHARLIE, F/S, DSH, BLACKBORN APRIL 1 2023BONDED TO PEPPERHello there, I'm Charlie. I'm a little shy at first, but once I warm up, you'll see my playful side. I love chasing after my favorite toys and exploring new hiding spots. My sister Pepper, she's a lot bolder than me. She's always the first to dive into a new game or try a new treat. Speaking of treats, I absolutely adore them! I'm a bit hand shy, but I'm working on it. I may need a little time to trust, but I promise, I'm worth it. Adopting me means gaining a loyal friend who will bring joy and laughter into your home. I can't wait to meet you!Location: Oakville PetSmart, 2501 Hyde Park Gate

Story
COBRA BUBBLES, M/N, DSH, GREY/WHITESENIOR - 10+ YEARS"Meet Cobra Bubbles...Just the sweetest snuggle muffin in the entire universe. 10+ years old and on the streets for who knows how long, CB was found intact when he joined a local feral cat colony. This poor buddy has had it tough but even though he looks perma-grumpy, his care giver soon discovered he wasn't feral at all. He must at one time have been a treasured pet and he has so much love to give. What a gift! He just wants to cuddle. Like...all the time. On your lap, on your chest, in your bed. Anywhere. Anytime.Mr. Bubbles was neutered and vetted by Ninth Life and it was discovered that he is FIV positive and only has two teeth left. (Did I mention he was living rough?) After spending several months in foster care, recovering his strength and attaining a healthy body weight, this sweet soul is ready to find his furever home. Bubs' ideal situation is as a single pet in an environment where he has at least one family member home most of the time. Work from home or a stay-at-home parent would be fantastic. Even better a retiree who has a big heart and a cozy recliner.Still a bit timid around new people and loud noises, Cobra will hide when startled. Understandable. He would prefer a quiet environment though he is great with gentle, cat-savvy kids. Once you earn his trust, he'll give you his whole heart too."Location: Foster home
