Story
Hi. I am Poppy, a 3-5 year old 6 pound chi mix. I was given the name Poppy because my owner lived on Poplar Street. I came into the rescue along with 3 of my sisters. You see, my owner died and there were 12 of us. The owner's sister reached out and 4 of us were lucky enough to be able to go into the rescue. We had lived in some pretty bad conditions since my owner was sick for awhile and wasn't able to properly care for us. When I arrived, I was pretty shut down. I was afraid to leave the kennel or to go outside to potty. So, foster mom sent me to the foster's house that had my 3 sisters. That was the magic that brought me out of my shell. Now, I'm cuddling with foster mom and sleeping in bed with her. I am, however, still working on the potty game as I am not comfortable going outside yet. I am also learning to walk on a leash. I am good with other small dogs and with older children but large dogs scare me and cause me to shut down. It is unknown about whether I would be good with cats since I haven't been around them. If you are interested in a sweet and tiny chi who is just discovering that there is a big, LOVING world out there, have your peeps call my peeps and we will be right over. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
You might be wondering how such a perfect dog came into rescue...well, this sweetheart was found by a nice older lady who saw her out in the very hot weather, about to have a heat stroke. She took her in and lovingly cared for her, but recently, she had to go into an assisted living situation. She also had many other dogs and her family and friends couldn't help her. Fortunately, she reached out for help and Mia came into rescue, very pregnant, about 4 days away from giving birth to 6 puppies! We discovered upon intake that she is heart worm positive, but the treatment would have to wait until the babies were born and, on their way, to forever homes. Mia's heartworm treatment will be done in October and once she's done with that, she can be spayed. We hope she can go to her forever home in about 2 months. She will be completely vetted, up to date on all vaccinations and preventives when she leaves her foster Mom. Here's what her foster Mom says about this precious little girl ~ One of the best little Momma dogs ever! And a real sweetheart too Mia will be getting treated for heart worms soon and after that she'll get her spay surgery and then....adoptable!! If you are looking for an easy peasy girl to add to your life, here she is! Housebroken, loves to wander the yard and enjoy being outside in the fresh air, walks great on leash, NOT barky, doesn't mind nice cats, loves other dogs...kinda sounds like the whole package, right? Mia does need a securely fenced yard - privacy fencing, not chain link - she's athletic as heck too and can climb one of those! Adult dog, weighs 9 lbs. VERY sweet temperament. You can pre-adopt her and she can join your family when her vetting is completed (probably 2 months). In the meantime, she will continue enjoying being pampered and pre-spoiled for you in her foster home. Mia is a Chihuahua mix. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)
