Story
Bertram is a little hero in his own right. We don't know his whole story - but what we have gathered is that his previous owner passed away- and no one has come to claim him. Bertram's confusion upon intake was heartbreaking-but his fear did not lead him to aggression or growling. He merely submitted to commands- and was anxious to meet everyone with tail wags. He gives all strangers kisses- (we are working on his old man breath) and hopefully with flea treatment- we are hoping for his hair to grow back so he can grow into his most handsome self. :) Bertram eats EVERYTHING. Despite the breath Bertram has impressive chompers- and has a healthy appetite. This little old man has the energy and playfulness of a puppy- but the discipline of a gentleman. He has not torn up his toys nor his blanket. When outside- Bertram walks well with a leash and makes sure to do his business. In his kennel- he makes sure to do his business away from his food and bed. Mr. Bertram is loving , obedient, and wants to make everyone his friend. His greatest joy in life is getting a hug from a stranger. Please come and be the shining light in this pup's life- he may have lost his person, but he himself has so much life to live. Hello there the adoption fee is $20.00 CASH OR CHECK it is low as we do not spay/neuter our animals or vaccinate as we do not have a vet on site. Upon adoption you would sign a legal contract stating that within sixty days you will get them sterilized and vaccinated per state requirement. Sometimes due to age or complications the 60 day window can be extended however only by a vets discretion. Your contract is not fulfilled and your adoption of the pet cannot be successfully closed until proof of sterilization and vaccination is provided to us from the adopter. You may come to the shelter any day of the week between 8 am and 4:30 pm, just please give us a call beforehand to let us know you are coming at 281 291 5644. Thank you!

Story
Meet Riley, a 3-year-old Chihuahua who was surrendered to the veterinary clinic where I work. She is a very timid but incredibly sweet girl who needs a calm, quiet home with no children. She does well with small to medium-sized dogs and with cats, as long as they’re friendly. Riley needs someone patient and gentle. Her behavior suggests she may have come from an unsafe or stressful environment, so she does not do well with rapid movements, shouting, or loud, active households. She’s a little shadow who will follow you everywhere and loves to be right on top of you for comfort. She is not fully housebroken, but she reliably uses a pee pad and enjoys short walks outside. Riley is allergic to salmon and fish products. We’ve found that turkey and sweet-potato–based foods have been safe for her so far. There is a small $50 adoption fee, just to make sure she finds a committed forever family. She truly is the sweetest girl, and she deserves a home filled with love, gentleness, and comfort.

Story
My name is Toby and I’m ready to find a new “fur ever” home!  My previous owner had to give me up to SCP.  I had a broken leg but SCP took care of that!  I had surgery and now my doctor said my leg looks great and I’m ready to have some FUN!  I love playing with my toys, going on walks, and keeping my foster mom company.  She brags on me all the time about how smart I am.  I love playing in the backyard with my foster dad.   I learn fast and really want to please.  I really want some other dogs to play with.  I would play with kids too.  I will chase cats if they run but if they don’t I just ignore them.  If you are looking for a fun little guy, here I am!   If you are interested in him, please send an email to SCP at SCP Dog World <scpdogworld@gmail.com>! Applications can be found on our website at secondchancepets.org under the "Forms" tab. Please complete and return to us for review!   Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home. The adoption fee for a dog is $190 (or $245 for puppies). All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas. Adoptions are held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clear Lake Petco, 2410 Bay Area Boulevard.   Since all our dogs are in foster homes, an individual dog may not be at our weekly Adoption Event due to conflict with a foster's schedule. If you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please send an email to scpdogworld@gmail.com so that the Dog Coordinator can let you know if the dog will be at the Saturday Adoption Event at Petco. If you just want to meet some great dogs looking for their forever home, please come visit with us on Saturday!August 26, 2025, 12:50 pm
