Story
Name: Citra Sex: Female Estimated Age: 3-4 years Best Guess for Breed: Border Collie Mix Weight: 59lbs Good With: Citra is good with other dogs as long as she has the proper introduction. We are not sure how she does with kids or cats, but happy to test her out for you! About Citra: Citra is an adorable 4 year old border collie mix who is incredibly smart and loves to learn new tricks. Fun facts: she knows over 15 commands and is working on several more, she’s a mozzarella cheese aficionado and butt scratches are her favorite! She also loves sunbathing - she can go for hours without moving from a sunny spot! Please read more about her below! CITRA’S PERFECT MATCH: PERFECT FAMILY: A home with 1-2 adults is ideal. Citra needs crate time when guests come over, but can warm up with a slow introduction and some treats. Because she is shy, we are recommending she not go to a home with small children. She can be quite scared of other dogs and cats, and would do best as the only dog in the home. However, she has been working her hardest with us to overcome her fears, and has shown lots of progress recently! PERFECT HOME: One with a fenced in yard away from the bustling city. EXERCISE NEEDS: Citra enjoys long walks on the leash and rolling in the grass belly side up at the park. She could play fetch and tug all day long with her humans! However, she is also very content to lounge around the house. She is such a playful pup and would love to learn new games and activities! She loves untangling a towel to get to her food, and that tires her out just as much as a walk! She should not be taken to dog parks. BEHAVIOR IN HOME: Citra is a sweetheart. She loves to play with her humans and then take naps on the couch or in her crate. She is slowly but surely learning how to interact with new humans, but it takes a lot of treats and patience to gain her trust. Once she gets comfortable, she would love nothing more but to snuggle up with you all night long. She is quiet and comfortable in her crate, knows the “place” command, and does not have accidents in the home. CRATE: Citra loves her crate, she will sleep and relax there during the day and while her humans are not at home. She also sleeps in there all night long! Color Match: ORANGE - Goofball (Socially Motivated) Dog Personality — Will work for what they want, but are not as committed to pursuing their own agenda; these are considered moderate-persistence dogs. Adopter Personality — Interested in doing some training and can provide regular interaction and activity. If you think that Citra might be your perfect match, apply today!May 5, 2024, 10:40 pm

I'm young, full of energy, and always ready for a good play session. I've never met a dog I didn't want to play with, and my best buddies are as fond of playtime as I am. I like making new friends and will show off my beautiful smile when I'm happy to see you. I will need an active home, but I promise to bring joy, laughter, and an endless supply of love into your life. Adopt me, and let's create wonderful memories together!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
** THIS PUP HAS A LOT OF APPS ** Lorna was pretty timid and shutdown when she arrived. She and her sister Tori were pulled from a shelter and we don't know what kind of life they had before that. In her foster home, Lorna is slowly beginning to blossom but is still rather shy and uncertain. Her crate is her safe space. She is learning to potty outside and how to really play and be a dog! This girl will need a patient, experienced adopter and would benefit from a mentor dog in her forever home as well.

Story
Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet boy ISO fresh start and love!GILLY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Gilly      Best Guess for Breed: Collie/Shepherd mix Best Guess for Age:   3 years 11 months as of April 2024        SEX: Male Approximate Weight:  42.6 lbs Gets Along With:   Gilly does well with other dogs. Because Gilly is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. Due to his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12. We haven't seen him with cats or kids but he can be tested once he has arrived in the DC area. Currently Living at: DC area foster home. Special adoption considerations:   Gilly is from a hoarding/cruelty situation, and was very scared at rescue. Because Gilly is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. Due to his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12. Gilly is Looking For:  For a loving home that delivers all the sweet things his rescuers whispered in his ear.... 'You're safe now, sweet boy. The life you deserve starts now. You get lots of love, quality kibble, a cushy dog bed - and a warm lap if you'd like too. You're safe now, sweet boy.'  Gilly was rescued from a hoarding/cruelty case and landed in a massive south Texas shelter that routinely has 1200-1500 animals in their care; his chances of being adopted in that area are, well, low to nil. Once he arrives in the DC area, he likely will be nervous in new environments. He is eager to get his own humans - ones who get that he might need extra support during his adjustment and give him all the love and patience he needs. And ones who take him for sniffy walks and all those adventures he's been missing out on - he's in his prime and has lost time to make up for! And what do his humans they get in return? An incredibly sweet and loving dog with an enormous stockpile of adoring gazes and loyal companionship to offer the humans in his new chapter.   What do you say? Will you help him write it? What My Foster Says About Me:  Gilly is sweet but very shy. He needs to learn how to trust humans and wants to go at his own pace. He will need a patient adopter who will help him come out of his shell. He loves being pet and will lean into scratches. Has been great with going potty outside and has had no accidents yet. Loves being in the crate where he feels safe. Learning to walk on a leash. He seems to like the company of our other dog so far and is learning from her how to be a dog. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.
