Story
Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet boy ISO fresh start and love!GILLY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Gilly      Best Guess for Breed: Collie/Shepherd mix Best Guess for Age:   3 years 11 months as of April 2024        SEX: Male Approximate Weight:  42.6 lbs Gets Along With:   Gilly does well with other dogs. Because Gilly is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. Due to his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12. We haven't seen him with cats or kids but he can be tested once he has arrived in the DC area. Currently Living at: DC area foster home. Special adoption considerations:   Gilly is from a hoarding/cruelty situation, and was very scared at rescue. Because Gilly is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. Due to his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12. Gilly is Looking For:  For a loving home that delivers all the sweet things his rescuers whispered in his ear.... 'You're safe now, sweet boy. The life you deserve starts now. You get lots of love, quality kibble, a cushy dog bed - and a warm lap if you'd like too. You're safe now, sweet boy.'  Gilly was rescued from a hoarding/cruelty case and landed in a massive south Texas shelter that routinely has 1200-1500 animals in their care; his chances of being adopted in that area are, well, low to nil. Once he arrives in the DC area, he likely will be nervous in new environments. He is eager to get his own humans - ones who get that he might need extra support during his adjustment and give him all the love and patience he needs. And ones who take him for sniffy walks and all those adventures he's been missing out on - he's in his prime and has lost time to make up for! And what do his humans they get in return? An incredibly sweet and loving dog with an enormous stockpile of adoring gazes and loyal companionship to offer the humans in his new chapter.   What do you say? Will you help him write it? What My Foster Says About Me:  Gilly is sweet but very shy. He needs to learn how to trust humans and wants to go at his own pace. He will need a patient adopter who will help him come out of his shell. He loves being pet and will lean into scratches. Has been great with going potty outside and has had no accidents yet. Loves being in the crate where he feels safe. Learning to walk on a leash. He seems to like the company of our other dog so far and is learning from her how to be a dog. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Story
Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Handsome boy needs his fur-ever family! BUCK NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Buck and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (May 26th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20904)!   Name:   Buck        Best Guess for Breed:   Collie and shepherd mix   Best Guess for Age:   1 year as of Jan 2024        SEX:    male   Approximate Weight:    57lbs as of Feb 2024   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We think Buck would do best in a home that either has a resident dog or who can make sure Buck has lots of opportunities to go on walks regularly with other dogs or visit dog parks and/or doggie daycare with other dogs to build confidence. We have not seen Buck with kids but he can be tested! We have tested Buck with some of the cats at our adoption event, and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Buck could live with a cat, he has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack.    Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations: Buck is a truly Lucky Dog! He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process.   Buck is Looking For:    Some snuggles with his new best friend! Buck is a very sweet and handsome boy who is currently living at a shelter. He has a very soft, silky coat and the most adorable puppy face ever - he may be young but he's just a little baby!!! Buck is looking to start his new life in the DC area and can't wait to explore his new home with you. He is looking forward to plenty of walks, playing with new toys, and cuddling up on the couch for some movies!  He is just past his youngest puppy days, but he still has plenty of energy for whatever adventures you want to take him on. Could this little love bug be the newest member of your family?   What My Foster Says About Me:  Buck is a really sweet and great dog. He loves playing with other dogs and is getting more friendly with people. He can be a little shy at first but is learning to quickly open up to his surroundings. He's opening up at home and is very sweet and affectionate! Buck is also a great passenger for car rides!   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
