Story
Earle the Pearl: A Tale of Resilience and Joy Earle the Pearl is a delightful 20-pound bundle of energy, with a heart as big as his personality. At just two years old, Earle's journey began in November 2025 when he was found abandoned, tied to a fence outside a vet's office. Despite this rough start, Earle hasn't let it dampen his spirit. Personality and Activities Earle is the epitome of a “happy-go-lucky” pup. He loves to dive headfirst into activities, whether it's wrestling with his shepherd foster brother or snuggling on the sofa with his pittie foster sisters. Earle thrives on companionship and prefers to be in the midst of the action. Crate Training and Mischief While Earle isn't fond of being crated, it’s a necessary measure for his safety when his foster family is out. He can manage about four hours before he starts plotting his escape, accompanied by a serenade of canine tunes. When not crated, Earle is a curious explorer—checking out table tops, counters, and even attempting online shopping! Play and Exercise Earle is happiest with a playmate, whether it’s a fellow dog or an active family member. He enjoys exploring the fenced backyard and romping in the snow, especially when decked out in a cozy sweater. With his love for running and exceptional vertical leap, Earle needs space to expend his energy. Sleeping and House Training Earle sleeps comfortably in a crate in the bedroom at night, though he dreams of snuggling under the covers with humans and other dogs. He’s made significant progress with house training, but supervision is key due to his small bladder. His initial challenges were compounded by hookworms, but he's on the mend. Ideal Home Earle would flourish in a home with a yard and an active family. Older children and/or a canine sibling would be ideal companions for this lively pup. While his breed mix remains a mystery, his Dachshund-like physique and unique stature make him a distinctive member of any family. If you're ready to welcome a dog who’s “all in” with love and enthusiasm, Earle the Pearl might be your perfect match. Complete an application today to meet this extraordinary dog! www.k9ei.dog

Story
Abby Love is currently in a foster home. If you would like to meet her and her brother, Little Man, please start by visiting www.sccrescue.org and completing an application.Little Man (10 years old) and Abby Love (5 years old) are a sweet bonded pair of long-haired Dachshunds who must be adopted together. These devoted siblings share a special connection and take comfort in being by each other`s side. Both are affectionate, people-oriented dogs who enjoy relaxing on the couch, napping in cozy dog beds, and spending time with their family. They get along well with cats and children of all ages, making them wonderful companions for many different types of households.Little Man is a gentle love bug who likes to know his people are nearby. He enjoys lounging in sunny spots and soaking up attention. Abby Love is equally affectionate and full of personality, actively seeking out pets and cuddles whenever she can. She knows her name, comes when called, and is especially devoted to her brother. Together, they are happiest when included in daily family life. Both dogs are doing well with house training and thrive on a consistent routine. They sleep together in a large kennel in their foster family`s bedroom and settle down nicely after a few minutes. They walk well using a leash and harness, though Little Man does have some difficulty with stairs and may benefit from a home that can accommodate his mobility needs. Abby enjoys her walks and is an easy companion on outings.Like many Dachshunds, Little Man and Abby Love are alert little watchdogs who aren`t shy about announcing visitors, neighborhood activity, or wildlife in the yard. Birds, squirrels, rabbits, and passing neighbors all catch their attention, and they can be vocal when outside. If you`re looking for a pair of loving, loyal companions who will bring double the affection and double the charm, Little Man and Abby Love are ready to find their forever home together. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out

Story
Bella is a 2-year-old, 24-pound spayed mixed-breed sweetheart who has finished raising her puppies and is finally ready for something that's all about her—a forever family of her own! This adorable low rider is bursting with personality and charm. If there’s a tennis ball nearby, Bella is ready for action! Fetch is one of her favorite activities, and a fenced yard where she can run, play, and chase toys would be her dream come true. Bella is equal parts playful and cuddly. She absolutely loves toys and takes great pride in "redecorating" them by enthusiastically removing their stuffing. After a hard day's work of toy destruction and ball chasing, she's more than happy to curl up next to her favorite people for a cozy nap. When bedtime arrives, Bella prefers to be close to her family. Her favorite spot is at your feet in bed, but she's also perfectly content snoozing in her own bed nearby. Bella gets along well with other dogs and has been wonderful with children. Because she loves toys so much, she may occasionally assume that children's toys belong to her too, so little ones may need a reminder to keep their special treasures picked up. While she's not a fan of being confined in a closed crate, Bella does enjoy relaxing in an open crate when she chooses. She's trustworthy when left home alone and has been respectful of her foster family's belongings. Bella's ideal home is one that appreciates her playful spirit, loving heart, and desire to be part of the action. Whether she's chasing a ball, supervising daily activities, or snuggling up for movie night, Bella simply wants to be where her people are. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a big personality, a playful streak, and endless love to give, Bella may be the perfect addition to your family. Our standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for adopters who pay by cash or check, making the adoption fee $450. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal test, deworming, current on flea and tick preventative, and microchip. To ensure the best match for both our dogs and adopters, we require a fully completed adoption application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with the entire household. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption and does not obligate you to adopt; it simply allows us to begin the review process. To request an application or for additional details, please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.
