They were surrendered with medical needs and facing a looming deadline as their family prepared to move. We knew we had to keep them out of the shelter system and offer them a safe place to land.These boys are now ready to find a family that will love them through their golden years! Chester, the more reserved of the two, is a true napper, content to snooze most of the day. He likes to keep an eye on you from a comfortable distance, occasionally coming over for a gentle pet. Walks are enjoyed at his own charming waddle! Gunner, a bit more energetic, loves to play with toys and run for a bit before settling down for his own naps. He’s a snuggler, enjoying couch time, and moves at a faster pace on walks than Chester. Both boys are treat-motivated and are doing well with a consistent bathroom schedule. Taking in owner-surrendered pets like Chester and Gunner – especially seniors and those with medical needs – is part of our mission. In many cases, these pets would end up in overwhelmed shelters. This unique 7 year old 25-pound Dachshund/Pit Bull mix has a white coat and a heart full of love for his favorite people. He is an exceptionally smart boy who is already house-trained and good at following some commands. He is leash trained and enjoys going on walks. While he is a champion snuggler, he can be selective about his friends. He has preferences for certain people and requires slow, proper introductions to other dogs. Because he values his personal space and predictable environments, he is looking for a calm, loving home without small children. He is being rehomed because our family has grown by two children. He recently bit our toddler when she got in his space. He has previously nipped at new people (when they were not using good dog etiquette). His defensive behavior seems to have increased since having children.
