Story
Hello, my name is: JerryDOB: 03/12/2023Sex/Breed: Neutered male Chihuahua/Dachshund mix Weight: 12 lbsRescued From: Hoarding caseJerry had a rough start to life. He was rescued from an overcrowded shelter after being seized through a hoarding case. The home he lived in was filled with dogs and trash piled up to the ceiling. He was understandably shut down at the scary shelter, but once he had a little time to decompress in foster, he started slowly letting his guard down. Jerry is still building confidence, keeping to himself most of the time. He has always lived with other dogs and will need to have a little dog companion in his forever home. He feels safest with his little buddies. Jerry is still learning to trust and would benefit from a quiet environment. Despite being so nervous, Jerry has been nothing but sweet. We have no doubt he’ll continue to learn and grow with the right family in his corner. All our pets are microchipped, spayed/neutered, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives.Interested in adopting? Story
ABOUT BUDDY If a Dachshund and a Labrador had a baby, that'd be Buddy! This shy, but sweet guy is a low-rider mix breed with a sweet, sensitive personality. Buddy came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for him. While Buddy is a total sweetheart, he can be a little shy when meeting new people. However, he doesn't have a mean bone in his body, he usually backs away and cowers when he's unsure of things. We have learned the key to his heart is yummy treats and some patience. Once Buddy is comfortable with you, he is major snuggle bug, often climbing into your lap for love. He seeks reassurance from his human friends, to let him know that he is safe and everything is okay. Buddy enjoys going for long walks, taking long naps, and has done well meeting other pups at the shelter. He would thrive with an adopter that can offer him some patience and time to adjust to his new home. And, of course, lots of treats and love too! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Otis is a loving, playful, and incredibly loyal pup who's been my companion for the past several years. I adopted him from a shelter in Philadelphia when he was about 1.5 years old, after he was found as a stray on the streets of Atlanta. Since then, Otis has grown into a loyal, curious, and deeply affectionate dog. Indoors, he can be both relaxed and playful; tossing toys around or nudging you for a game of tug or fetch; while still being content to curl up nearby for a nap. Outside, he lights up even more; whether he's chasing squirrels, lying in the sun, or exploring the world around him. He's happiest when he has space to roam, a soft spot to rest, and someone nearby he trusts. My job now requires me to travel frequently, and it’s become increasingly difficult to provide Otis with the stable, active lifestyle he deserves. Making the decision difficult, but I believe it’s the right choice to give him the consistent environment and outdoor freedom he truly thrives in.

Story
Meet Cookie. Cookie is a 7 yo female blue dachshund/pitbull mix weighing in at 34 lbs. Cookie came back to us from being adopted many years ago because her adopter had severe health issues and moved into a nursing home. Cookie is overweight and we are working hard to help her lose weight. Cookie is a very sweet, very playful and a well behaved dog with a tail that is always wagging. She walks well on a leash and gets along with other dogs and cats.  Currently she is in a home with other active dogs and a cat. She is not a barker. She is good with everyone except one man who was a relative of her former adopter. Cookie was very afraid of him and if cornered, she might react and bite. We don't know why she was afraid of this particular person. For this reason we recommend no little kids in the home. Cookie is now up to date with vaccines and just had a dental cleaning recently. She has been spayed and tested negative for heartworm and is back on monthly heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $100.00.If you are interested in adopting Cookie, please visit our website www.lharinc.org go to Adopt and complete the dog adoption application.
