Story
This beautiful girl is roughly 9 years old, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and is looking to find her forever family. She not only brings fur-filled love, but she will serenade you with her magnificent malamute vocals. Kaya is all you need in a pet. She is fluffy, sweet, caring, silly, playful, independent, and she has so many other great attributes! Kaya would prefer to live in a home with no other pets. She does have a strong prey drive for small animals, and was previously adopted into a home with other dogs. While she accepted the male dog, she had strong feelings about the female dog which led to her return. Due to this history, we believe Kaya would do best as a single pet while she adjusts to her new home. There is certainly a possibility that she can accept a new canine sibling later on! Kaya brings our staff, volunteers, and visitors of all ages so much joy when they visit her here at HSoP. She’s never met a stranger, and is always pleased to greet new people! She is a huge fan of pets and treats, but an even bigger fan of snuggling with her people. While she might be a bit of a bed hog, she only wishes to be closer to you! Kaya LOVES the outdoors, especially during the winter. She was made for the snow and cool weather! With her extra fluffy coat, she loves playing in the snow. Sometimes she is happier outside than she is inside during the winter. Kaya does have pretty severe arthritis in her hips and hocks, but that certainly does not stop her from enjoying short outings and being active. Her arthritis is controlled with a twice daily anti-inflammatory medication and a once daily joint supplement. All food is good food, so she is great at taking her medications! HSoP will provide her new family with one month of her medications to ensure you have plenty of time to get her into your veterinarian to establish care. Kaya is highly food motivated, sometimes to a fault. If she smells something intriguing, you can bet on her attempting to taste it too. In her previous adoptive home, she was known to check out what was on the counters, and even examine what was in the trash. While this might seem like a turn off, it is certainly something she can learn with some time and effort from her new family. You can most definitely teach this old dog new tricks! While Kaya has been at HSoP for quite some time, it shouldn’t deter you from bringing her home! She certainly has her silly quirks, but who doesn’t?! She will need some extra time to adjust to life in a home, but HSoP offers a foster period with every adoption to help the adopters make sure it is a good fit. HSoP will provide resources for any concerns you may have in regards to offering Kaya a happy and healthy life. Not sure about adoption? Ask our staff about alternatives to seeing if Kaya is a good fit for you! You can stop by anytime Monday-Saturday between 1:00-5:00pm to meet Kaya. HSoP is located at 2019 E White Ave Moscow, ID 83843

Story
Meet Troopa! This hound mix is estimated to be around 1 year old. He's neutered, up to date on vaccines, and all ready to leave the shelter for his perfect forever home. Troopa came to HSoP several months ago, and was extremely malnourished upon intake. Through weeks of slow and steady care, Troopa safely gained back the healthy weight he needed to thrive. Now as happy and healthy as any pup we've ever known, Troopa is ready to begin his new life with a new best friend at his side. He's been through a lot in his short life, and it doesn't seem like Troopa has received much training, if any. He has a habit of jumping on people to get their attention. This is something we commonly see with shelter dogs, and would likely be much easier to correct inside a home. Another thing Troopa struggles with is the tendency to bite or be "mouthy". He doesn't mean to hurt when he does this, instead it seems like another way for him to try and get attention. Troopa responds well to being told "no" when he forgets his manners. This is something that could very likely be trained away in a home environment. The main thing Troopa needs is a patient and understanding owner. He needs someone to stay by his side as he works through some long-held habits, someone he can build trust in and look to for reassurance. Troopa is an incredibly smart dog. He does well on a leash and picks up commands quickly. The sooner he can move into a warm and comfortable home of his own, the sooner he can flourish into the amazing dog we know he can be. Troopa has a fair bit of energy and will need regular exercise in his future home. We aren't sure how he would do around cats or other dogs. We do offer a seven-day foster period with each adoption, and Troopa will be required to meet any other dogs in the home prior to leaving HSoP. Troopa is 100% ready for adoption, and we would love to see him go home soon! If you've been looking to add some canine love to your life, consider meeting Troopa. Our dog kennels are open from 1:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday, and our canine adoption fee is $135. Troopa will leave HSoP with a microchip containing his new owner's information. HSoP is located at 2019 E White Ave Moscow, ID 83843

Story
Meet Egg Roll! This pretty pup arrived at HSoP as a stray and was never claimed by an owner. Now she's on the hunt for a loving home of her own. We estimate Egg Roll to be around 1 year old, and she's some type of pit bull mix. We aren't sure what Egg Roll's history looks like, but it doesn't appear she's had much training. She has a habit of jumping up toward people, which would likely be easier to correct outside of the shelter environment. Egg Roll has quickly learned to sit on command, both with and without treats. Food works as a great motivator for her! One thing that Egg Roll struggles with is biting or being "mouthy". This is a behavior she tends to show mostly around new people. She doesn't mean to hurt when she does this. It tends to happen when she's excited and struggling to contain herself. She responds well to a firm "no" when acting unfavorably. Egg Roll usually needs about 5-10 minutes of playing or running around to get her energy out, and then she turns into a total softy who's just eager to learn and be loved on. For this reason, Egg Roll would do best in a home with owners who have the time and energy for training. She's a really good girl, it will just take some consistent lessons to help her understand the manners that we expect to see. Since she came in as a stray, we aren't sure how Egg Roll might do around cats or other dogs. She'll be required to meet all dogs in the home prior to adoption, and we offer a seven-day foster period with each adoption to ensure a good fit for the whole family. Those interested in getting to know Egg Roll should come visit her at the shelter! Our dog kennels are open 1:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday with no appointments needed. Visit us at 2019 E White Ave Moscow, ID 83843.

Story
Big Ben is a wannabe herder trapped in a large-framed 150 pound dog. His owner passed away and he needs a new home to meet his exercise and play needs. Ben is very loyal and loving, but quirky as has not yet been willing to ride in cars or let the vet cut his nails. While he is house trained, his size and extremely high energy makes him unsuitable around kiddos and needs property to run out his energy and lose some weight. Seems to bond with guys much easier. He is 4 and is believed to have a mix of husky, blue heeler and Australian cattle dog.

Story
*Charleston will be getting neutered on Friday, April 26th and will not be available for visitors. Meet him before or after then to see if he's a good fit!* Meet Charleston! This outgoing guy arrived at HSoP as a stray, along with a second dog. Neither dogs were claimed by an owner, so now they're looking for adoptive forever homes. Charleston was named after the famous dance with the same name - since he dances to greet our staff every single day! We estimate Charleston to be around 2 years old. He has a pretty strong tendency to jump, even to the point of almost walking on two legs sometimes! This is a habit that would be much easier to correct in a home setting. He does sit on command (especially when treats are involved) and he seems very eager to please his human friends. He would likely pick up new commands with ease. Charleston is a very outgoing and curious dog. He wants to be friends with everyone, and wants to explore all of his surroundings! Charleston has done great with a leash so far and would likely enjoy going on hikes or other outdoor adventures with his future family. He has a lot of energy to burn, and will need daily walks or access to an outdoor space to ensure he's getting enough exercise. Before leaving the shelter, Charleston will be neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped with his new owner's information. Since he arrived as a stray, we can't say how he might do around cats or other dogs. We do require a meet and greet with any dogs in the home prior to adoption, and offer a seven-day foster period to ensure a good fit. His adoption fee is $135. Those interested in Charleston should come visit him at HSoP! Our dog kennels are open from 1:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday and he would just love to meet you (mostly so he can show off his dance moves!). No appointments are needed, so just stop by when you have some time.

Sorta

St. Bernard American Pit Bull Terrier

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Sorta came into the shelter in a rag tag litter of big ole' puppies. He was the littlest guy, and was bullied pretty heavily. Due to this, Sorta had to be separated from his siblings, which led to anxiety in the shelter. With AMAZING luck Sorta was able to find a wonderful foster home, and has become the most stunning dog. He has perfected potty training and has shown no destructive behaviors. His fur has become shiny and his muscles are really coming in. Through the love and effort of Sorta's foster, he has even learned how to make friends with other dogs without being too scared. If you are looking for a dog that will stick by your side, love you unconditionally, and do everything in his power to make you smile, Sorta is your guy. If you're ready to meet a new friend, maybe even a best friend, give us a call at (509) 332-3422 to schedule an appointment with Sorta. Sorta is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $175.
