Story
This beautiful girl is roughly 10 years old, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and is looking to find her forever family. She not only brings fur-filled love, but she will serenade you with her magnificent malamute vocals. Kaya is all you need in a pet. She is fluffy, sweet, caring, silly, playful, independent, and she has so many other great attributes! Kaya would prefer to live in a home with no other pets. She does have a strong prey drive for small animals, and was previously adopted into a home with other dogs. While she accepted the male dog, she had strong feelings about the female dog which led to her return. Due to this history, we believe Kaya would do best as a single pet while she adjusts to her new home. There is certainly a possibility that she can accept a new canine sibling later on! Kaya brings our staff, volunteers, and visitors of all ages so much joy when they visit her here at HSoP. She’s never met a stranger, and is always pleased to greet new people! She is a huge fan of pets and treats, but an even bigger fan of snuggling with her people. While she might be a bit of a bed hog, she only wishes to be closer to you! Kaya LOVES the outdoors, especially during the winter. She was made for the snow and cool weather! With her extra fluffy coat, she loves playing in the snow. Sometimes she is happier outside than she is inside during the winter. Kaya does have pretty severe arthritis in her hips and hocks, but that certainly does not stop her from enjoying short outings and being active. Her arthritis is controlled with a twice daily anti-inflammatory medication and a once daily joint supplement. All food is good food, so she is great at taking her medications! HSoP will provide her new family with one month of her medications to ensure you have plenty of time to get her into your veterinarian to establish care. Kaya is highly food motivated, sometimes to a fault. If she smells something intriguing, you can bet on her attempting to taste it too. In her previous adoptive home, she was known to check out what was on the counters, and even examine what was in the trash. While this might seem like a turn off, it is certainly something she can learn with some time and effort from her new family. You can most definitely teach this old dog new tricks! While Kaya has been at HSoP for quite some time, it shouldn’t deter you from bringing her home! She certainly has her silly quirks, but who doesn’t?! She will need some extra time to adjust to life in a home, but HSoP offers a foster period with every adoption to help the adopters make sure it is a good fit. HSoP will provide resources for any concerns you may have in regards to offering Kaya a happy and healthy life. Not sure about adoption? Ask our staff about alternatives to seeing if Kaya is a good fit for you! You can stop by anytime Monday-Saturday between 2:00-5:00pm to meet Kaya. HSoP is located at 2019 E White Ave Moscow, ID 83843

Story
Meet Sting! This handsome pup was briefly adopted from HSoP, but didn't get along with the other dog in the home. Now he's available for adoption and looking for a new home to spend his days! We estimate Sting to be around 1 year old. Since Sting did not get along with the dog in his previous home, we're recommending he go to a home with no other dogs at this time. We don't know how Sting does around cats, but it's very likely he would try to chase them. Sting earned his named from the stingray-shaped marking on his back. It's pretty distinct! Upon arrival at the shelter, Sting was quite nervous. The barking of the other dogs combined with the new smells and strange people made for an understandably scary first few days. Sting is still nervous about the other dogs in our care but has grown worlds more comfortable with our staff. He absolutely lights up when he gets to have one-on-one play time away from the noise of the dog kennels! Watching him get the zoomies is such a treat. This guy has proven himself to be quite mischievous, having successfully escaped his indoor kennel twice now. We haven't heard about him behaving this way in a home, but his Houdini tendencies have been hard to ignore at the shelter. Sting is relatively well behaved and only needs a quick reminder of his manners to turn things around! Sting will sit on command for treats and loves being told how good of a boy he is when he listens. He would likely respond well to continued training in his new home. Sting is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and will leave HSoP with a microchip containing his new owner's information. Those interested in Sting should come visit him at HSoP! Our dog kennels are open from 2:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday with no appointments needed. Sting's adoption fee is $135.

Story
Meet Isopod! This cutie pie arrived at HSoP as a stray and was unfortunately never claimed by an owner. We estimate him to be around 4 months old, so he certainly has a lot of growing left to do! As some type of lab mix, Isopod has lots of energy to burn and would appreciate an active owner or a secure outdoor area where he can run to his heart's content. For being such a young guy, Isopod is quite smart! He knows how to sit on command, and even knows how to play fetch (yes, including the part where he brings the ball back!). He's very happy to please but also has a healthy curiosity about things that can distract from his human friends at times. Isopod enjoys getting to explore new places but does not seem familiar with being on a leash. Being the adorable puppy that he is, Isopod will require a fair amount of training to ensure he's happy, healthy, and on his best behavior as he continues to grow. The ideal home for Isopod will include owners with lots of time to spend by his side, with the patience to help him learn at his own pace. Since he arrived as a stray, we aren't sure how Isopod would behave around cats or dogs in his future home. We require all adoptable dogs to meet any canines in the home prior to leaving the shelter, and offer a seven-day foster period with each adoption to help ensure a good fit. Interested in getting to know Isopod? We aren't surprised! Stop by HSoP between 2:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday to see if he's a match for you. We're located at 2019 E White Ave Moscow, ID 83843. Isopod's adoption fee is $135. He will be neutered, current on vaccines, and microchipped with his new owner's information by the time he leaves.

Story
Meet Chop Chop! This fun-sized friend is around 1 and a half years old. He's neutered, up to date on vaccines, and that makes him completely ready for adoption! Chop Chop can be cautious and show stranger danger towards new people, especially in large groups. He does much better meeting people one-on-one, and it takes some time before he can fully trust someone new. Once you're in his circle of trust, Chop Chop can be incredibly affectionate. He's small enough to be held and actually enjoys being picked up by those closest to him. When he's feeling affectionate, Chop Chop will sit beside you, climb in your lap, or even ask to be held. The main thing that Chop Chop needs is a calm and quiet forever home. He would do best in an environment without children, and with few people coming and going. We aren't sure how Chop Chop does around cats or other dogs. We do require all dogs to meet any canines in the home prior to adoption, and offer a seven-day foster period with each adoption to help ensure a good fit (this can be extended if needed). Chop Chop is a very loyal dog. Once he knows you, he finds comfort just being in your presence. Whether he's sitting in your lap, napping in your arms, or just sharing the couch with you, Chop Chop is content with his people by his side. If he wants personal space, he's good about letting you know. Chop Chop is also super playful! Being a young pup under 2 years old, he has plenty of energy to burn and loves getting to chase tennis balls. He would appreciate an owner who can exercise him daily. Chop Chop is a happy camper here at the shelter, but we know it'll take some time for him to completely adjust in his new home. If you are interested in getting to know Chop Chop, please stop by HSoP between 2:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday. We're located at 2019 E White Ave Moscow, ID 83843.

Story
Meet Orbit! This beautiful girl arrived at HSoP as a stray and was unfortunately never claimed by an owner. Now she's on the hunt for her new forever home. We estimate Orbit to be around 6 years old. She has been incredibly friendly and easy-going since arriving in our care. If there was ever a dog deserving of the nickname "Gentle Giant", we would vote that Orbit is that dog. She is incredibly soft-mouthed, easy going, and aware of her size. She likes to take her treats gently without even being asked. Since she arrived as stray, there's a lot we don't know about Orbit's history. We don't know how she does around children or other pets, but we do offer a seven-day foster period with each adoption to help ensure a good fit. We also require all dogs to meet any canines in the home prior to adoption. Being a German Shepherd mix, Orbit is prone to boredom when kept in the same space for too long. She likes to "throw parties" in her kennel, which is a nice way of saying that she flips things over and likes to move everything around. Her bed always starts the day facing up, but is face-down by lunch time thanks to Orbit's knack for redecorating. All of this to say, she needs an owner who understands the mental stimulation she requires each day. This could come from puzzle toys, exciting enrichment games, a working job, and so much more. Orbit would not be happy being cooped up inside a home; she needs to be engaged mentally and physically each day to truly thrive (like most German Shepherds). If you're interested in getting to know Orbit, please don't wait to come and meet her! Our dog kennels are open from 2:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday with no appointments needed. Visit us at 2019 E White Ave Moscow, ID 83843. Orbit will be spayed, current on all vaccines, and microchipped with her new owner's information by the time she goes home. Her adoption fee is $135.

Story
Meet Gomez! We estimate Gomez to be around 3 years old. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and will leave HSoP with a microchip containing his new owner's information. He arrived at HSoP as a stray, so we unfortunately don't know much about his background. Gomez is a very nervous boy - so much so that he was nicknamed "Sketchy Gomez" for his first few weeks here. He's incredibly unsure of people. It takes Gomez a good chunk of time to truly build up trust in someone new, and unfortunately, that trust can go away almost immediately if he gets startled. One thing that startles him even by mistake is quick movements. He doesn't like when people reach out to touch him quickly, or get their hands too close to his face without warning. Instead, Gomez should approach you on his own to feel safe and comfortable with affection. It takes Gomez around 15-20 minutes to begin letting his guard down around someone new. Treats and an excellent way to bridge the gap between stranger and friend, and Gomez is great about taking them gently! He even knows how to sit and shake paws when asked. Once he's comfortable with you, Gomez is much more willing to let his personality shine. He LOVES toys! Not so much that he likes *playing* with toys, but Gomez truly and completely enjoys carrying his stuffies around in his mouth with pride. It's common to see Gomez sitting happily inside the kennels - toy in his mouth, tail wagging, with a big smile in his eyes. Gomez is a very sweet and gentle boy, but something about his past life has made him nervous to let that side of him show. Gomez would likely benefit from having several meetings with his future family, so he can have the time to familiarize himself with you before having his environment change so much. Given his nervous demeanor and "sketchiness", we recommend that Gomez go to a home with no children. He would do well in a calm and quiet adult-only home, where he can relax during the day and get plenty of attention at night. Gomez would likely blossom in a home environment, and we can't wait for that day to come! If you're interested in getting to know Gomez, please visit him at HSoP between 2:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday (no appointments needed). We don't know how he does with other pets, but we offer a seven-day foster period with each adoption and require all dogs to meet any canines in the home prior to leaving HSoP. Gomez's adoption fee is $135.
