German Shepherd Dog Mixed Breed (Medium)

Female, 7 yrs 9 mos
Benton, KY
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Good with dogs, Not good with cats, Needs special attention, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Patches is a very sweet, playful pup who enjoys running and playing with our other dogs outside. She is scared of new people and gets upset by changes in her regular daily routines. She will require a patient and understanding family to help her make a smooth transition into life at home. Her ideal living situation would be a quiet home with a fenced in yard. She would love a canine sibling who can show her the ropes and give her some much needed confidence. Patches is considered special needs, due to her anxious personality - she wasn't socialized with humans as a puppy and will need a patient and understanding family (preferably with another dog) to work with her to help her feel comfortable in her new home and around new people. She would love to have a fenced yard and preferably another doggy sibling to help ease her transition into her adoptive family. She loves playing with other dogs, running outside, and playing with toys. If you are interested in adopting this animal from us, please visit our facility at 6301 U.S. Highway 68 East, Benton, KY 42025. Luna is ready to go Trick or Treating are you ready to take her. She does great with spine walking would only need a diaper on at night and take out 3-4 times during the day. This girl so deserves a forever home, please consider her. 9/13/2024: Luna is doing very, very well. She is almost finished with her physical therapy and will soon be going to her permanent foster home where she will remain until she finds her forever home. Luna is a happy little girl. She will always “wobble walk” (check out her video) but she is doing very, very well. BIO: Luna came from a breeder in North Carolina when she went down in the back. We took her immediately to our specialty vet clinic, and they determined that she was not a candidate for surgery. So, we had to put her through physical therapy to teach her to spine walk. Spinal walking (SW) occurs when a paralyzed dog with no pain sensation or feeling in their legs learns to walk and stand through reflex. Luna is doing very well and is also getting laser therapy and Acupuncture. She will never walk normally, but she has learned to walk instead of dragging her back legs. She is a very determined little lady, and she deserves a home where they appreciate her willingness to keep working to strengthen her legs. Our must-haves for precious Luna include: A fenced yard to get out and continue to strengthen her back legs, and when outside, she is FAST Someone who is home more often than not Someone with IVDD experience Another small young dog for her to hang with No apartments, high-rises, or condos Please don’t just look at her coloring and want her for that, because of her back issue, the adopter will need to have the experience of having a downed dog and know how to express a bladder. If you do not have this experience, then please do not apply. If you have the experience and would like more information before applying for her, you can email her foster mom at aadrpresident@gmail.com, and she’ll be happy to answer any questions you have. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
