Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. My name is Evie and my age and breeding are a bit of a mystery; however, the shelter and the vet estimated that I'm around two to three years young and likely have some Collie/Shepherd/Rat Terrier, but who really knows? My teeth are nice and straight, so not too many breeds in there they guessed.I weigh twenty-eight pounds, so I'm a petite medium-sized girl. I'm not as yappy as little bitty dogs, but I still consider myself a lap-potential gal! As far as barking, I only do that to alert that someone I don't recognize is approaching, especially if I'm with my foster mom. I have to make sure she knows an incoming alien is approaching. She says, 'Hush, Evie,' so I do.I don't want to dwell on my past too much, but people usually want to know why a dog ended up in rescue. A couple brought me to the shelter after watching the car in front of them stop and toss me out. As you can imagine, I was terrified. Upon arrival to the shelter, they tried to put something around my neck, and I freaked out! A nice volunteer worked with me everyday until I figured out a leash was acceptable and meant I got to go outside to see the wide world. I am a very good walking companion now.Since coming to my foster parents' home, I have learned many things, especially from my confident, big (I'm talking 100 pounds) foster brother. At first, I was afraid to go three steps away from my foster mom, but he would amble out into the yard and seemed so relaxed. I started following him. On the third day, I felt the need to chase him here, there, and yonder. It was as if my herding DNA awoke. So, we would run and cavort. Afterwards, we would go back inside to relax with my foster parents while they worked during the day or watched Resident Alien at night. My foster mom figured out that I love treats, so she started teaching me words: sit, up, place, back, go potty, wait, no, and yes. My foster mom did not teach me the word, 'Come,' because all she has to say is, 'Evie,' and I come running. I heard her tell my foster dad that I'm a very smart girl! She could not believe someone threw me away, and firmly believes there is a family out there who would love me, especially if the family enjoys teaching dogs new commands and activities. I mean, I didn't know what the heck a ball was my first three days here, and then I had a light bulb moment and decided chasing it and bringing it back was fun.I prefer to potty outside, and I will let you know with a whimper, or if I'm in my crate, I might up the whimper to a little howl. About the crate - I am not a fan. Once I go in, I do settle down, but I really don't understand why I need to go into one. I don't jump on the furniture or wreck anything in the office, but my foster mom says it's part of the preparation for my spay rest. So, I'm trying. I don't mind an expen near as much.My ideal home would have patient parents and respectful children. Because of my past, new situations and people worry me a bit, but I'm not unkind about it. I just think a quietly active home or a teenager who needs a best friend would be the best situation for me. I might think I'm supposed to herd loud, running toddlers. So, big kids only, please! The same goes for cats. If they're nice and chill, I ignore them. If they hiss, I back up. If they take off running, I get very alert and interested.I'd love a confident, friendly, and playful dog sibling as well, but I'd likely be happy being an only dog if that is the only option. I'm not suitable for apartment living due to my breeding; however, a nice fenced yard with people or dogs who will give me a few good romps a day, plus a leisurely walk, would suit me. Thanks for reading about me, and I hope to meet you soon! Estimated DOB: 07/1/2023 Adoption fee: $200 (6% KY sales tax included) We would love to hear from you!
