His family circumstances changed and he (and his dog and cat siblings) found himself looking for a new home. At just four years old, Lionel found himself scared and unsure, suddenly needing to learn a whole new way of living. This big, goofy boy had grown up in a rural home without much exposure to strangers, new dogs, or busy environments. That lack of early socialization left him feeling overwhelmed when he first came into our care. But with patience, gentle handling, and the support of an experienced foster home, Lionel has begun to blossom. His true self—smart, affectionate, and just a little silly—shines brighter every day

Tundra feels the world intensely — and when she feels safe, she is incredibly sweet and loyal. She may not be the easiest dog — but she is an honest one. And in the right home, that honesty will blossom into something very special.

Thank you for your interest in River. River came to us from an owner who got him from somewhere in the USA. He arrived so fearful that the owner didn't really know what to do with him so he, and another dog, were kept in a shed with an attached yard. The owner didn't interact with them much and River thought that was absolutely fine. People are scary, the world is scary and he was comfortable in his little part of the world. Well, things changed the day River came to SPIN.

Health Issues None Temperament - Playful and spirited girl. - People friendly. She may be a bit reserved when first meeting new people but warms up quickly. - Can exhibit some reactivity to other dogs when on-leash or behind a fence, but less as she’s gets older. - With proper introductions and supervised visits, she has enjoyed playtime with other dogs. She does best with calmer dogs that tolerate her rambunctious style of play - Very happy to relax and cuddle once she’s had her required amount of exercise. - Moderate-high prey drive. Likes to chase squirrels and birds. - Can be slightly destructive when bored. - Not much of a swimmer, but she enjoys playing in water. - Responds well to verbal cues and attempts to redirect her attention. - Her leash skills and basic obedience are good. She seems to enjoy one-on-one training sessions. Owner Suitability -Enjoys being a part of day-to-day activities and would benefit from a home in which people are around most of the day. -Would benefit from daily walks and opportunities to play throughout the day. - Loves to be off leash with people. - She would do best in a home with a fenced in yard as she is a curious girl and enjoys opportunities to explore. - Best suited to a home with no other dogs. - Can happily live in a home with cats. She does show occasional interest in playing, but is very respectful of the cat not wanting to engage.

Story

Looking for an ideal home for Enzo, a 4 year old (5 in April) Australian Cattle Dog, red heeler. He is a very smart, loyal companion, who needs lots of outdoor time, especially loves playing catch, so an ideal home would include a spacious backyard and even access to wilderness. Playing ball (catch) is definitely his favourite activity, and he is quite skilled at it. Regular walks have been part of his routine as well. Enzo is not friendly with other dogs, and has almost no experience with children. He can be aggressive towards some dogs and has shown resource protection reactivity. He has been leash trained, muzzle trained (for vet visits primarily) and listens to basic commands well (come, stay, sit, back, drop it, etc). Enzo very food motivated, so continued training is appropriate and recommended. Enzo is Very anxious in a moving vehicle and has had limited exposure to car rides as a result. He is great company at home and with consistent outdoor time is also a nice couch companion. He shows affection to his care giver, preferring male humans and is a great watch dog in the home. Those familiar with Australian Cattle Dogs, who have a large property would be ideal. Enzo is on epilepsy medication, which has been working very well, and has a cost of around $35 per month to obtain (with prescription). He has no dog food restrictions or other medical issues to report. Enzo has all his medical shots up to date, has been neutered and microchipped. This is a courtesy listing. Health Issues - Initially came into rescue with dermatitis, but that has been resolved. Temperament - In general a very friendly & affectionate dog, especially within his inner circle. - Bear can be very excitable when he sees people coming his way. He presents his excitement by jumping and mouthing. Although learning to settle down before getting the attention he seeks, his size and weight of 140 lbs can be intimidating. - Bear thrives on attention, so much so that he does not always like when the attention is being removed. He is known to grab you to stop you from going. - Bear is motivated by treats more so than his regular food. - True to the Great Pyrenees breed, Bear has guarding tendencies of his space and his food, which can be unpredictable especially around new people. - Bear walks well on leash. But on occasion will pull should he see something of interest to him. - Bear rides well in a car. - Due to his sheltered upbringing, he does not lunge, but can get overwhelmed and tenses up when he encounters unfamiliar things close up. For example, he has been introduced to a horse and bicycles passing him on a trail. But, he settles down relatively quickly when distracted. - Bear overall appears to be indifferent towards other dogs unless being taunted by reactive dogs in which case he will initially match their energy, but then disengages. He has participated in calm pack walks well. He has not had the opportunity yet, but has shown interest in engaging playfully with other calm dogs. - Given the opportunity, Bear is happy to adjust to the comforts of a couch! Owner Suitability - Needs an owner with experience with large working dog breeds and will be a constant dominant presence in his life, reinforcing positive behaviour with consistent training. - Needs owner to have patience as he learns to trust his new environment and the boundaries set out for him. - Best suited to live with someone who works out of their home, or is retired. - Would benefit from a quiet lifestyle. - Consistent people in his life will make it easier for Bear. Although he loves meeting new people, a high traffic home with too many strangers, will most likely bring out his guarding tendencies. - Must have a fenced in yard. - Best suited to a large property, preferably in the country, with access to inside and out with suitable shelter. - Not suitable for a home with children due to his food aggression.
