Meet Flower - Executive Play Director Flower is back at our shelter for a second time now. She has been adopted and returned twice. Flower is a sweet girl, bursting at the seams with charm! She is full of joy that is so contagious it travels from her tail, to her whole body! Flower loves nothing more than a good play session and brightening up any room she walks into. Have a favorite game? Flower would love to join in on the fun! Flower is dog selective, so a meet and greet is recommended. * Female * 1 Year and 7 Months Old * Spayed and Microchipped * 50 lbs * UTD on Vaccines and Dewormer * 4DX Tested (Negative) * Adoption Fee: $25

Story
Jack here is the sweetest guy. His foster mom would love to keep him, but she simply has too many. He gets along great with kids, other dogs, and cats. He is older so he sleeps a lot and would love nothing more than a cozy dog bed or a couch to lounge his days away. But he still has lots of pep and energy and would like short walks. He is house trained and will let you know he needs to go. If you aren't around he will hold it (He is kenneled at the fosters when she isn't home.). He is VERY food motivated as most daschunds are. He is not neutered as he has a heart murmur and the decision was made to choose a much needed dental over the neuter. So for now he wears belly bands as most males like to mark (although he doesn't at the foster home but he does when he is in the shelter, most likely from too many smells). It is an option in the future as long as his heart stays strong (blood work looked great). He is up to on vaccines and dewormer. His adoption fee is $50. go to www.hshcwv.org/adopt to submit an application.

Story
Duke was originally adopted November 2025 and returned on 2/1/2026. Duke would be best in a home with no other animals as he is not cat or dog friendly. He lived with a toddler, but he is a play nipper and kid chaser. He is also a food stealer from children. He NEEDS lots of training. We are told from his previous owner that he has separation anxiety and he is housetrained. Intake Date: 2/1/2026 *Male *2 years old *Neutered and Microchipped *50 lbs *UTD on vaccines and dewormer *4DX tested (negative) *Adoption Fee: $0 (FULLY SPONSORED)

Story
Scooter was an owner surrender one year ago today, Feb 4, 2025 to our local Animal Control. We don't know the reason - but they most likely got a puppy, never taught him manners, and he became too big to handle. That is what happens when people don't put the time and training into a dog. We rescued him from Animal Control into the Humane Society on Feb 10th and here he has sat for almost a year. He is such a great dog. Really. Once you get to know him and let him know you. He acts like a jerk in his kennel, because it's his safe space. But give him a treat and he is at your full attention. He needs to meet you outside of the kennel. Visit several times and build a bond. He needs time to learn you will be good and safe to him. He needs boundaries, but so do you. In all honesty - several staff here would love to take him home, but most of us already have multiple dog/pet homes. What he needs - he prefers women. But he doesn't need a pushover. He needs a woman that can hold her own and hold him at his obedience. He needs someone that loves a project to work on - i.e. working every day on confidence, mental and physical enrichment, will show patience and allow him to come into his own personality. He needs a home, not a busy apartment complex. That's just too busy for him. He prefers the low key introvert life. NO cats or kids please as he doesn't love the little beings (we think they scare him). He does get along with some female dogs, but honestly he would probably love to be the only dog in the home (HE LOVES ATTENTION) but find some female dog friends to play with once in a while. He is strong as an ox physically, but a big goofball in the brain. He loves butt scratches, toys, treats, and he loves humans deeply once he feels that safety net. He is smart - very trainable and it's good for his mindset. We have a staff member that is a trainer (shout out to Collars Off LLC) who has been working with him on Place, and other commands and he has picked them up very well. We have a devoted volunteer who he loves and she spends one on one time with him, and several staff work with him on brain games. We want to see Scooter succeed in a home. We want him to find a home. Growing up in a shelter is never a long term solution. We offer a foster trial and can work with you to help transition him to your home and make this a happy ending for you both. Go to www.hshcwv.org/adopt to submit an app. His adoption fee is fully sponsored. $0
