I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereJenga is a wonderfully wild and bouncy pup. He's a combination of both shy and playful, and is a loving puppy ready to find his family. Like all puppies will, he's in a stage of "mouthiness" and needs appropriate things to chew on (like toys!) and reminders of what not to chew (like shoes or toes!). No cats, bunnies or rodents for Jenga - he has significant prey drive. Jenga will thrive with an active family. He is patient and calm during car rides, great on leash, and responds very well when called. Catch up on his foster adventures on Instagram @dogisbond (he had a blast at the beach)! If you can nurture this super happy pup with positive reinforcement training and plenty of adventures, submit an application to meet him! Click HERE to learn how to adopt. Story
Hello! My name is Tank and I am a two-years old, 106-pound, neutered male Akita Mix dog looking for a forever home. I am a bit anxious when introduced to new places and would like to be allowed to take my time to adjust. I am treat motivated and love to get pets. I have a lot strength and can be tough to walk if my person is not used to walking big guys like me. I would greatly benefit from being the only dog in the household due to me not being the most social when it comes to meeting other dogs. I need a human to match my high energy because I love to play and run around. On the flip side, I am very affectionate and will long for your attention. If I sound like the perfect dog for your household, then please come in to the shelter to get more information about my history and personality. I look forward to meeting with you!  Tank - ID #A925738 If you are interested in meeting with me, please submit your fully completed Adoption Profile Form to adoptinquire@peninsulahumanesociety.org and an adoption counselor will call you to conduct a phone interview before making an appointment to meet in person. You must be 18 or older to submit an application. Please make sure to include in the application that you are interested in meeting me! Story
Bentley is a 5-month old male Dutch Shepherd mix puppy (most likely Belgian Malinois) who was picked up as a stray by Stanislaus Animal Services. This poor puppy was so traumatized at the time of intake, but is now safe with rescue in a wonderful foster home, where he can decompress and begin to feel safe and loved.  As Bentley is new to us, we will post additional information as we come to know him better. What we can tell you, is that he is a sweet little boy, and didn’t hesitate to come to our volunteer upon first greeting.  He is just learning about the crate, and does well with other dogs (although can be a bit shy at first).  His first night in his foster home, he slept in his crate all night with no issues. Bentley will require a committed and loving human who will make him a part of the family, providing the care and attention that every young pup needs. Only older dog-savvy children 8 and above in an adoptive home will be considered. It will be necessary for an adopter to have recent successful experience in raising a GSD, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd, or other large breed working puppy. An adopter who will begin and continue his obedience training based upon positive reinforcement is recommended, to ensure he remains on the path of a well-behaved canine companion. We are currently screening applications for the best possible fit; however, he will not be available until he has received all age appropriate vaccinations. ##1805152##

Story
Max (watch my video!) was at a distant overcrowded shelter for over a month when his time was up. He had no options left so we rescued him. All the volunteers adore him. Despite having no walks from his shelter kennel once out he is well behaved and great with other large dogs he met at the shelter and volunteers. He needs time to warm up and feel safe then cooperative loves treats and is lovable. Smart and gorgeous. Max did great during his transport car ride but once at a new place he was nervous and confused. Did take treats. Once he knows you he will be your best friend and bodyguard. Max will need an experienced guardian and a home with a yard. For now no kids. More info. to come as he relaxes and learns. 7/1/22: He is now doing great at his foster home with 2 other GSDs. With time he adjusted to new people at home. He is still leary of of strangers. Bonded to his foster mom. Loves his walks/hikes playing ball and relaxing at his foster home. 9/12/21: Sadly when his potential foster home and her 2 GSDs during their two meets her female GSD did not work out with him. The female is less tolerant of new dogs and wants to be the top dog. Max did great with her male dog and social. He loves treats snuggled being petted and enjoyed the attention. Need basic leash training. Poor Max will continue to board until we can find him an experienced foster home that will give him time to warm up and feel safe. Max is boarding until we can find him an experienced and dedicated foster home. Donations needed to help pay for his boarding. To date since 10/20/21 over $4000. 10/1/21: Our volunteers are visiting Max and taking him out for walks and play yard. Doing great and friendly with 2nd visit with female and male with yummy treats and turkey hot dogs. Max goes to male volunteer for hot dogs long walk and fine being petted. Max is a sweetie with people he knows and trust. Max would be a great hiking and home buddy.YouTube: https://youtu.be/veR-UfNMVfgSeptember 23, 2023, 12:25 am

Lyle was on the SASA PTS list Sat. 5/13 at 4:30 pm so we tagged him to save his life. He was a shelter staff favorite. Now we need a foster home for him ASAP as he is in emergency boarding. Lyle is a super dog and is people friendly. He loves to play then calms - and he loves his pets. He does need some basic training but he seems easy to train and he's a pleaser. He already has learned to sit and wait for treats only gently taking the treat after the release command. Lyle is very pretty and unique with one blue eye. Donations are appreciated to help us pay for his emergency boarding until we find him a foster home.September 23, 2023, 12:25 am

Story
Bear needs a foster home or adoption home by 8/6/23 due to his foster home going back to work. Gorgeous Bear was on SASA PTS list Sat. 5/13 at 4:30 pm so we tagged him to save his life. Shelter favorite but they could not extend his time anymore due to being over-crowded with dogs. Now we need a foster home for ASAP. We will need to pay for emergency boarding for him until we can find him a foster home. He is super dog and people friendly. Sweetie. Loves attention exercise basic training and cuddly. More info. to come. Donations to help pay for his emergency boarding is greatly needed and appreciated. 6/2/23: Bear is doing great at this temp. foster home. He did great in car ride. Very happy loved being brushed watching for squirrels in yard and within a day he was normal calm and relaxes inside home. He's a sweetie. He is great with car rides when fh visits her mom and at dog parks. No cats. 7/25/23: Current schedule: 1/2 hour walk in the morning and the afternoon. Early evening he gets about 45 minutes at dog park to run and play. He eats his meals & sleeps great at night in his crate easily 9 hrs. He’s very food motivated & learns quickly when there are high-value treats. He enjoys being brushed. He seems fine with dremel tool nail trims. He’s tolerant of getting his teeth brushed- his back teeth are yellow but his front are white. He’s fine with checking his paws regularly for foxtails after walks. He’s very curious (not fearful at all) & likes to explore everything when he goes to a new environment. He loves squeaky toys but he destroys the squeak in them soon. He developed good impulse control with food & is much better waiting at doors/yd gates & crossing streets these days. He knows sit down wait (still working on stay for over a minute) drop it paw/shake bow lie down cover nose but his recall & heel are not good once outside of the yard. 50% of the time he will play fetch in my side yd but only for about 5x before it bores him. He’s much better at not pulling on his leash on walks but an alert person still needs to walk him as he’s highly reactive (barking jumping & pulling) when he sees squirrels or cats. If I can distract him with a high value treat before he’ll not react bad to dogs on walks. He will ignore my treats when it comes to squirrels & cats though. Not recommended for a cat household.September 23, 2023, 12:25 am
