Bear is such a funny, sweet, EXTREMELY energetic five year old Dutch Shepherd who needs a loving, understanding, patient owner and home. An ideal environment would be one that includes a lot of space to run around at full speed, and a very fit, active owner. Bear is very smart and obedient, but will need more training in recall when off-leash. He is very curious with cats and thinks they are play things, so he comes off aggressive. With dogs, Bear gets very excited and caution should be exercised during introductions while he gets a feel for the other dog's energy and attitude. After the introduction, he loves to run and play! All in all, Bear would make a very fun, energetic, snuggly companion for the right owner or family. Meet Tommy, a handsome 2-year-old, tri-colored German Shepherd mix who was rescued at the very last minute from a crowded county shelter. Initially described as shy and timid, Tommy simply needs some self-confidence. Tommy is very smart and eager to please.. While he can be a little unsure at first, he is quickly learning that life can be full of love, kindness, and fun. Each day, he grows braver--wagging his tail more freely, discovering toys, and learning to be confident. He is dog-friendly and would thrive best in a home with another confident dog who can guide him and show him the ropes. Tommy is housebroken, walks nicely on a leash, and sleeps soundly through the night. Although the crate is not his favorite place, he settles quietly after a few minutes and is content once he feels safe. According to his trainers, Tommy is calm and confident on leash, non-reactive to people during walks, and loves interacting with other dogs. He is playful, learns from other dogs, and is steadily building confidence while mastering his manners. Although he tends to be a little timid and is not treat-motivated, he is making great progress. He would be happiest with a family that has a strong leader who will continue his training and build his confidence with patience and affection. A fenced yard would be wonderful for him to play and explore, but what he truly wants is a doggy sibling that can teach him to be the best dog he can be.
