Story
Sheba is a 1 1/2 year old German Shepherd puppy. We acquired her from a private party through the Nor Cal German Shepherd rescue on 12/20/25. She is our third rescued Shepherd. We believe she has great potential, but she attacked one of our horses and that is the only reason she can't stay with us. She is playful and loves to be around people. She is fully house trained and comfortably sleeps through the night. She is not destructive in any way inside or outside. She uses the doggie door with ease and will paw at a regular door if needed. She rides in the car with ease and walks comfortably on a leash. She responds to several basic commands. She has been around two other dogs in the three weeks we have had her. She is an alpha with the other dogs, but not harmful. She has walked on lease with another dog on another lease. She is not food aggressive, but is a beggar for what you are eating. Once she realizes she can't have what you have, she will go lay on her pad.

Story
Meet MAX – A Resilient, Loving Pup Looking for His Perfect Home! Max’s journey started in a heartbreaking way—he and his sister, Nova, were abandoned in a park, left in a box. But despite his rough beginning, Max’s spirit shines brighter than ever! While his sister has found her forever home, this sweet boy is still waiting for his special family. Both Max and his sister has a congenital condition affecting their bone development, likely due to early malnutrition or genetics. But don’t let that fool you—this little guy is full of life! He loves to play, explore, and soak up affection. After a fun romp, he’s all about cozy power naps and cuddles. While he moves around well now, he might need extra support down the line. Max is searching for a family who will embrace him just as he is—with love, patience, and plenty of snuggles. Could that be you? To learn more about Max and start the adoption process, visit www.aarflove.org and submit an application today! "They are a dog first, even if they have a special need. Even with disabilities or problems, they can still live a great, quality life" ~ Carla Boyd

Story
01/06/26 16:48Placed on Needs Rescue due to shelter being critically over capacity. This is a Track Star hound, in its truest form. If you`re looking for a running partner or adventure buddy, Cinnamon roll could be your gal! This high-energy, social sweetheart is all about movement, friends, and fun. In the shelter environment, she can show her frustration—especially when she sees other dogs passing by—but that stress melts away once she gets out to play. And after the pandemic, can`t we all relate? She’s eager to interact with other dogs and does best when given appropriate outlets for her enthusiasm. On leash, she can be a strong puller, though she walks more comfortably in a harness. Once off leash in the yard, she truly shines. She’s done well playing with multiple large, energetic dogs, happily tolerating a rough-and-tumble play style and showing a clear love for fast-paced games of chase. She would thrive in a home with other playful dogs or an adopter committed to keeping her active. This affectionate girl enjoys being petted all over and seeks out human attention once her energy needs are met. Because kennel life can be stressful for her, she’ll do best in a home where she isn’t left alone for long periods. A gradual, positive introduction to crate training for short sessions will help set her up for success.Ideal home: an active adopter who loves hiking, running, swimming, doggie playgroups, scent work—or all of the above! With the right balance of exercise, structure, and companionship, this pup will make an enthusiastic and loyal adventure partner. Come meet Cinnamon Roll today!

Story
01/23/26 14:46On Needs Rescue for visibility.01/16/26 16:37Meet King Kong ?? — a big-hearted name for an even bigger sweetheart!King Kong is an 11-month-old shepherd with tons of personality and energy to spare. He’s incredibly friendly, absolutely loves people, and will do just about anything for a treat. In his kennel, he can get a little frustrated, but that just means he’s eager to get out, stretch his legs, and be with his humans. He’s been introduced to other dogs and does well, making him a great candidate for a home with canine friends after proper introductions. King Kong is still very much a puppy at heart—high-energy, playful, and ready to learn—so he’ll thrive with an active adopter who’s excited to continue his training and give him plenty of exercise and mental enrichment. If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate, energetic companion who’s ready to be your new best friend, King Kong is waiting to meet you!

Story
01/25/26 15:12A note from Buskin`s foster family:Buskin is a sweet, affectionate boy who truly enjoys being around people and staying close to his humans. He loves carrying his toys around and is always ready for a game of playtime. When playtime is over, he’s more than happy to roll over for belly rubs or settle in for late-night cuddles. He enjoys going on walks, playing with his toys, and responds very well to treats and attention. Buskin is impressively smart and over the past few weeks fostering, he`s learned a wide range of commands including sit, down, stay, spin, paw, roll over, jump, and heel, in which he loves learning and showing off his skills! He’s fully potty trained, and will let you know when he needs to go outside.Buskin can get excited on leash when meeting new people, but he wants to greet everyone and be part of the fun! With ongoing training, he’s already learning to greet people more calmly and politely. Buskin has such a big, goofy personality and so much love to give. He is looking for a forever home where he can feel safe, loved, and truly part of the family.
