Titus is an affectionate 11 year old vision impaired male who adores people of all ages.  He does well with the teens in the foster home as well as a younger child who visits.  Titus is easy going and relaxed around other dogs, calmly greeting them with a wagging tail and sniffs.  This laid back guy loves to spend his day lounging about and napping on his soft pillow.  Although he has free access to the backyard at his foster home, he looks forward to short morning and evening walks.  He may move slowly, but he is a model citizen on leash.  When he isn't sooozing, Titus enjoys chewing on his toys.  This eager-to-please pup is the perfect choice for a family with a relaxed lifestyle.   ##1235821##

Story
Gizmo is a stunning 10 year old male who enjoys hiking.  We suspect that he may be younger based on how athletic he is.  This curious boy wants to learn about everything his humans do.  He appreciates the opportunity to sniff new things that he doesn’t yet understand.  Gizmo enjoys being with other dogs, and although he can be selective, he politely shares his favorite toys with his furry foster sister.  Above all, Gizmo’s tender heart desires to be close to his leader and to please the ones he loves.  If his human disappears from his eyesight, he quickly jumps up to find them.  Gizmo will make a wonderful companion and adventure buddy for an active adopter with large dog expereince.   Please check out Gizmo's video: https://youtu.be/H2f7X8CTpqw ##1460734##

Story
Lorelie T is a beautifully proportioned, classic looking female "pocket" German Shepherd.  Lorelie is gentle and affectionate, and loves going on walks.  Her mobility is typical for a senior dog, having no problems with short walks and easily navigating 3-4 steps.  Lorelie is good with some dogs, but she can be selective about who she opens up to and plays with.  She would do best as an only dog in a home without young kids. Lorelie T Summary:- Female, 13 yrs old, 53 pounds- Good with adults, older kids, some dogs- TBD - cats What's Next:  Lorelie is ready for adoption!  Thulani does not charge an adoption fee and provides medical coverage for life.  All Thulani dogs go to their forever homes with a supply of food, a cushy bed, and toys if wanted.  All dogs pass a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into TSGSR.  The tests are not intended to assess how smart the dog is but are important for TSGSR to determine if the dog is expected to be safe in a family home.  The tested behaviors check to see if the dog will guard or protect food or toys from people, will tolerate handling all over its body (including ears, nose, lips to check teeth, lifting paws, belly, back, and gently pulling the tail).  This dog remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies. ##1715732##

Sesame aka Chunk is dog friendly; he’s playful with the younger members, but respectful of the older dogs in the pack.  He is very intelligent and food motivated and is learning his basic obedience commands.  He would be fine as an only dog but would thrive best in a home with a family that has a fellow canine brother or sister (or two!) to play with.  He is an expert snuggler as well and would love to be by your side at night, warming your lap and showering you with kisses. Sesame is located in Southern California.   ##1673221##

Story
COMING SOON!  Meet DaisyMae, a super great dog. She is a svelte 70 lbs of affection that loves to hop in the car for a ride, or to show her partner her youngish 10 year old athleticism on a trail walk.  In her foster home, she is currently interacting with three other large dog housemates, two males and a female. In less than a month's time she has shown her true personality. Overall DaisyMae has proven to be a beloved companion. and a joy to be around. She is house trained and has excellent house-manners.  She is good around older kids. This beauty's energy level is medium and her overall personality is that of being independent, friendly, gentle, playful, and crate trained.  She loves car rides and gets into the car on her own. She does occasionally pull on the leash, especially when tempted at the sight and smell of a nearby squirrel, so we are not sure how she would be around cats. Overall, DaisyMae is a wonderful dog in every aspect and would bring unconditional joy, loyalty, and love to anyone who adopts her. Of, course treats will always be welcome. And she's also a big fan of belly rubs! DaisyMae will be available for adoption after she has surgery to remove a mammary mass.  Thulani does not charge an adoption fee and provides medical coverage for life.  All Thulani dogs go to their forever homes with a supply of food, a cushy bed, and toys if wanted.  ##1946228##

Story
Redding is a handsome boy who requires a home that can help establish boundaries for him. Redding is house-trained and enjoys car rides, playing fetch, and playing in the water. He is also a regular in the shelter playgroups and does well with other dogs. Redding is a working dog who will benefit greatly from training and a savvy adopter or foster. He is two years old and is likely a Shepherd/Husky mix. Please help us save Redding by sharing his story. Observation comments: It takes time to familiarize and gain trust, so a slow introduction is recommended. This animal requires an experienced handler. It does not do well with sudden human approaches from all directions during the first meet-and-greet. Summary: Due to its size and strength, kids need to be supervised around the dog. This animal requires some space for himself, so do not approach without permission from the animal. Attempting to socialize with this animal is safe at a short distance away without constant, straight eye contact. If this animal acknowledges you, he will approach you naturally and accept your invitation. Once that happens, you will be his best buddy for life! Redding has a hit-or-miss personality. His German Shepherd is a bit picky, but he plays well in the boarding facility playgroup and has been tested at our partnered local boarding club. His personality will change with a calm, quiet, loving home over time.

Story
Nina is an active 2yo 45lb border collie/german shepherd mix. She has a lot of personality and can be a total derp (tongue hanging out sideways and everything)! She's housebroken and crate trained, and walks amazing on the leash! She loves other dogs and is good with indoor cats. She is pretty high energy and enjoys going on hikes and playing with her canine siblings. She MUST go to a home where there is a resident confident adult medium-large dog (she worships the male german shepherd in her foster home but is best friends with a female Doberman the same age.. she's fine with small dogs but she's a bit too rambunctious for them). She has also discovered the comforts of the couch and loves to lay along the top and get petted while you watch movies. Because she can still be skittish with people though, she should NOT go to a home with children or apartment living (no exceptions!). She would do best in a gentle, quiet adult only home with another dog and a house with fenced yard. She has gained a lot of skills and confidence while in her foster home, but she is ready for the next chapter in her life with a new family that will continue to help her grow. Here is Nina’s story video: https://youtu.be/KxWGwurZVWk King is Nina’s companion/emotional support dog. He’s a 7-8yo purebred 75lb German Shepherd. Nina WORSHIPS him and is his shadow, follows him everywhere, and they even crate together. King is a mellow boy who prefers lounging in the house or on the couch. He would do best in a cat-free home.  They are not for first time dog owner, but when together they’re pretty easy. All they need is a couch and a yard.  Adoption fee for the two together will be $550. Nina can also be adopted by herself without King, however, we are requiring she go to a home that has another resident dog, and that she goes with a pal pup (either King or another known friend) for the first week during the transition phase, so that she doesn’t panic in a new home. Story
Sadie is a loyal ~2yo spayed 55 pound active small German Shepherd. She loves lots of affection, long walks and playing with her toys. She is a moderate energy dog, playful and active but also settles down nicely indoors by your feet. She is housetrained and sleeps in a crate.  She will need an active home that will keep her mentally and physically busy. She will chase cats that run. She needs proper intro to new dogs.   She is undersocialized and also needs continued training and structure. She needs continued socializing with other dogs and people (reactive in public). She would do best in a home with German Shepherd experience, as she can be insecure and also defensive/protective. She would do best with a single woman, or will need experienced handlers in a multi ADULT home (NO CHILDREN) who will be willing to commit to working on her socialization. NO APARTMENTS! Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application:  http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc April 20, 2024, 5:51 pm

Story
Our sweet Hayzel is a German Shepherd with a heart as big as her spirit! This bright and active one-year-old is ready to bring boundless joy to your life.  Miss Hayzel just headed home from her surgery through the Fracture Program for Rescue Animals at UCDVMTH, and we're thrilled with the outcome: They got her leg 99% corrected, a fantastic result to fix the angulation of her leg. She left the hospital bearing weight on her leg and will promptly spend the next eight weeks in strict crate confinement to facilitate healing before she can romp freely. She's got a couple of plates in her leg to help with that fusion.  Although it took a CT scan and 3D modeling to prep her for surgery, along with delays for various reasons ranging from skin irritations from her splints to her fracture requiring more complex surgery thus, the CT scan and modeling, we're so grateful for the expertise of the orthopedic department at UCDVMTH.  Hayzel is such a good social pup. Her vet team adored her during her two-day stay, just as they did during all of her prior vet visits for bandage changes, x-rays, HW tests (she's negative), and a CT scan. She's just adorable.  Hayzel returned to her foster home, which she shares with two resident shepherds and a couple of cats. She had been fully integrated into her foster home pack during the last five months while waiting for surgery, including a trip to the snow last weekend since she was having surgery this week. She's also enjoyed trips to Point Isabel and wine country to dog-friendly restaurants and wineries. Although she was limited in how long she could walk the way her leg had healed waiting for surgery,  Hayzel loved all the outings, ultimately graduating from her dog stroller.  While in her original crate confinement fresh out of the shelter, Hayzel preferred being in the same room with everyone, hanging out in her wire crate. Hayzel is crate-trained and potty-trained; she hangs out in a secure crate during the day while her foster family is at work with a lunchtime break from their dog walker and sleeps in a wire crate in the bedroom.  Hayzel is a happy, playful young gal who is very affectionate towards her people, including resident dogs and cats. She's a petite powerhouse of energy and enthusiasm and loves toys, too. Hayzel loves to chew and has a steady rotation of toys to keep her young mouth appropriately engaged. If allowed, she'd be the quintessential lap dog. Her petite-ish stature, at 66 lb, makes her the perfect companion for those who appreciate a compact yet agile furry friend. Hayzel's intelligence shines through. She's a quick learner, having mastered sit, coming when called, learning to sit before exiting, entering through doors, and understanding the kennel command. She rides nicely in the car and is terrific in her pet stroller. Hayzel has discovered puppicinos as a treat after one of her vet visits, waiting delightfully for her next treat. We expect her to excel in obedience training and be eager to tackle new tricks. Her eagerness to please will make training a breeze since she already offers behaviors for treats and her food. She'll be an ideal partner for an active individual or family. She'll thrive with an owner who enjoys keeping both body and mind active and provides appropriate training and boundaries for this smart girl. We're so happy that she's gained much-needed weight, grown by leaps, and is thriving in her frame now.  We're very grateful for the team advocating on her behalf as she was placed on the euthanasia list at the shelter for her injuries, as they aren't treatable in a shelter setting. Her transport team and donors also belong to Hayzel's life-saving squad.  If you're searching for a bright, active, and devoted companion to join your life's adventures, Hayzel could be your perfect match. Bring this sweetie into your home, and you'll discover a world of love and excitement together.  In the last five months, we have learned a lot about Hayzel. We can't wait for her forever family match, who will adore her, continue the structure her foster family provides, and be committed to the ongoing training and physical and mental enrichment this breed requires.  ##1853842##

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, April 6th at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-3pm, unless he/she is set up and adopted prior to the event. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $500   The Shakespeare Puppies are a litter of 4 month old German Shepherd mix puppies. They were surrendered to us after Mama got busy with a few neighborhood boys and had a litter. Mom got fixed, so no more late night romance for her! These puppies will be large when fully grown so they are perfect for large dog lovers! This litter is 2 girls. We will be looking for individual homes for each puppy as we do not place siblings together.  The puppies wake up around 7 AM and get breakfast as their pen is cleaned out. They spend the morning romping back and forth from the toy bin and the backyard, chasing each other in between activities and naps. They have lunch around 1 PM before their afternoon nap. They race around the backyard in the late afternoon before they have dinner at 5 PM and then get some training in. They are very food motivated hungry little hippos! Before bed, they wind down with some cuddles and snuggles. They sleep in a pen connected to a crate and pile together to dream of sonnets through the night.  Titania: Queen Titania is Queen of Cuddles! She is the sibling most likely to hang back while her littermates are pouncing on each other in the yard. She loves to spend her days being cuddled like a baby, giving kisses and hugs out to all who meet her. Titania does love a romp around with her brother and sisters, but she knows that the best way to get attention is to sneak away for snuggles. This lovely gal will cast a spell over you and you will fall in love!  Viola: Little Viola is Little Miss Independent. She absolutely loves investigating the sights and sounds of the backyard, the toy bin, the puppy pen, and any other room she is allowed in. She also loves to zoom around with her siblings, showing off her skills as a runner! Viola is an absolute sweetheart and helps keep her siblings in line when they are being chaotic, and shows love to all who meet her! The Shakespeare Puppies are only an option for those who have owned a dog in the past 5 years. Homes with previous large breed experience will be prioritized as we want to ensure families are ready for the energy level and intelligence of the breed mix. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.April 25, 2024, 1:42 pm
