Story
Titus is an affectionate 11 year old vision impaired male who adores people of all ages.  He does well with the teens in the foster home as well as a younger child who visits.  Titus is easy going and relaxed around other dogs, calmly greeting them with a wagging tail and sniffs.  This laid back guy loves to spend his day lounging about and napping on his soft pillow.  Although he has free access to the backyard at his foster home, he looks forward to short morning and evening walks.  He may move slowly, but he is a model citizen on leash.  When he isn't sooozing, Titus enjoys chewing on his toys.  This eager-to-please pup is the perfect choice for a family with a relaxed lifestyle.   ##1235821##

Story
Gizmo is a stunning 10 year old male who enjoys hiking.  We suspect that he may be younger based on how athletic he is.  This curious boy wants to learn about everything his humans do.  He appreciates the opportunity to sniff new things that he doesn’t yet understand.  Gizmo enjoys being with other dogs, and although he can be selective, he politely shares his favorite toys with his furry foster sister.  Above all, Gizmo’s tender heart desires to be close to his leader and to please the ones he loves.  If his human disappears from his eyesight, he quickly jumps up to find them.  Gizmo will make a wonderful companion and adventure buddy for an active adopter with large dog expereince.   Please check out Gizmo's video: https://youtu.be/H2f7X8CTpqw ##1460734##

Story
Lorelie T is a beautifully proportioned, classic looking female "pocket" German Shepherd.  Lorelie is gentle and affectionate, and loves going on walks.  Her mobility is typical for a senior dog, having no problems with short walks and easily navigating 3-4 steps.  Lorelie is good with some dogs, but she can be selective about who she opens up to and plays with.  She would do best as an only dog in a home without young kids. Lorelie T Summary:- Female, 13 yrs old, 53 pounds- Good with adults, older kids, some dogs- TBD - cats What's Next:  Lorelie is ready for adoption!  Thulani does not charge an adoption fee and provides medical coverage for life.  All Thulani dogs go to their forever homes with a supply of food, a cushy bed, and toys if wanted.  All dogs pass a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into TSGSR.  The tests are not intended to assess how smart the dog is but are important for TSGSR to determine if the dog is expected to be safe in a family home.  The tested behaviors check to see if the dog will guard or protect food or toys from people, will tolerate handling all over its body (including ears, nose, lips to check teeth, lifting paws, belly, back, and gently pulling the tail).  This dog remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies. ##1715732##

Story
Sesame aka Chunk is dog friendly; he’s playful with the younger members, but respectful of the older dogs in the pack.  He is very intelligent and food motivated and is learning his basic obedience commands.  He would be fine as an only dog but would thrive best in a home with a family that has a fellow canine brother or sister (or two!) to play with.  He is an expert snuggler as well and would love to be by your side at night, warming your lap and showering you with kisses. Sesame is located in Southern California.   ##1673221##

Story
COMING SOON!  Meet DaisyMae, a super great dog. She is a svelte 70 lbs of affection that loves to hop in the car for a ride, or to show her partner her youngish 10 year old athleticism on a trail walk.  In her foster home, she is currently interacting with three other large dog housemates, two males and a female. In less than a month's time she has shown her true personality. Overall DaisyMae has proven to be a beloved companion. and a joy to be around. She is house trained and has excellent house-manners.  She is good around older kids. This beauty's energy level is medium and her overall personality is that of being independent, friendly, gentle, playful, and crate trained.  She loves car rides and gets into the car on her own. She does occasionally pull on the leash, especially when tempted at the sight and smell of a nearby squirrel, so we are not sure how she would be around cats. Overall, DaisyMae is a wonderful dog in every aspect and would bring unconditional joy, loyalty, and love to anyone who adopts her. Of, course treats will always be welcome. And she's also a big fan of belly rubs! DaisyMae will be available for adoption after she has surgery to remove a mammary mass.  Thulani does not charge an adoption fee and provides medical coverage for life.  All Thulani dogs go to their forever homes with a supply of food, a cushy bed, and toys if wanted.  ##1946228##

Story
Redding is a handsome boy who requires a home that can help establish boundaries for him. Redding is house-trained and enjoys car rides, playing fetch, and playing in the water. He is also a regular in the shelter playgroups and does well with other dogs. Redding is a working dog who will benefit greatly from training and a savvy adopter or foster. He is two years old and is likely a Shepherd/Husky mix. Please help us save Redding by sharing his story. Observation comments: It takes time to familiarize and gain trust, so a slow introduction is recommended. This animal requires an experienced handler. It does not do well with sudden human approaches from all directions during the first meet-and-greet. Summary: Due to its size and strength, kids need to be supervised around the dog. This animal requires some space for himself, so do not approach without permission from the animal. Attempting to socialize with this animal is safe at a short distance away without constant, straight eye contact. If this animal acknowledges you, he will approach you naturally and accept your invitation. Once that happens, you will be his best buddy for life! Redding has a hit-or-miss personality. His German Shepherd is a bit picky, but he plays well in the boarding facility playgroup and has been tested at our partnered local boarding club. His personality will change with a calm, quiet, loving home over time.

Story
Nina is an active 2yo 45lb border collie/german shepherd mix. She has a lot of personality and can be a total derp (tongue hanging out sideways and everything)! She's housebroken and crate trained, and walks amazing on the leash! She loves other dogs and is good with indoor cats. She is pretty high energy and enjoys going on hikes and playing with her canine siblings. She MUST go to a home where there is a resident confident adult medium-large dog (she worships the male german shepherd in her foster home but is best friends with a female Doberman the same age.. she's fine with small dogs but she's a bit too rambunctious for them). She has also discovered the comforts of the couch and loves to lay along the top and get petted while you watch movies. Because she can still be skittish with people though, she should NOT go to a home with children or apartment living (no exceptions!). She would do best in a gentle, quiet adult only home with another dog and a house with fenced yard. She has gained a lot of skills and confidence while in her foster home, but she is ready for the next chapter in her life with a new family that will continue to help her grow. Here is Nina’s story video: https://youtu.be/KxWGwurZVWk King is Nina’s companion/emotional support dog. He’s a 7-8yo purebred 75lb German Shepherd. Nina WORSHIPS him and is his shadow, follows him everywhere, and they even crate together. King is a mellow boy who prefers lounging in the house or on the couch. He would do best in a cat-free home.  They are not for first time dog owner, but when together they’re pretty easy. All they need is a couch and a yard.  Adoption fee for the two together will be $550. Nina can also be adopted by herself without King, however, we are requiring she go to a home that has another resident dog, and that she goes with a pal pup (either King or another known friend) for the first week during the transition phase, so that she doesn’t panic in a new home. Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application:  http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc May 22, 2024, 1:43 pm

Story
Sadie is a loyal ~2yo spayed 55 pound active small German Shepherd. She loves lots of affection, long walks and playing with her toys. She is a moderate energy dog, playful and active but also settles down nicely indoors by your feet. She is housetrained and sleeps in a crate.  She will need an active home that will keep her mentally and physically busy. She will chase cats that run. She needs proper intro to new dogs.   She is undersocialized and also needs continued training and structure. She needs continued socializing with other dogs and people (reactive in public). She would do best in a home with German Shepherd experience, as she can be insecure and also defensive/protective. She would do best with a single woman, or will need experienced handlers in a multi ADULT home (NO CHILDREN) who will be willing to commit to working on her socialization. NO APARTMENTS! Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application:  http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc May 22, 2024, 1:43 pm

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $500   STOP! DPS needs your help. Vote for Winky. We are finalists in grooming transformation contest. We need your votes. You can vote once a day but on multiple devices. http://bit.ly/dpswinky The Shakespeare Puppies are a litter of 4 month old German Shepherd mix puppies. They were surrendered to us after Mama got busy with a few neighborhood boys and had a litter. Mom got fixed, so no more late night romance for her! These puppies will be large when fully grown so they are perfect for large dog lovers! This litter is 2 girls. We will be looking for individual homes for each puppy as we do not place siblings together.  The puppies wake up around 7 AM and get breakfast as their pen is cleaned out. They spend the morning romping back and forth from the toy bin and the backyard, chasing each other in between activities and naps. They have lunch around 1 PM before their afternoon nap. They race around the backyard in the late afternoon before they have dinner at 5 PM and then get some training in. They are very food motivated hungry little hippos! Before bed, they wind down with some cuddles and snuggles. They sleep in a pen connected to a crate and pile together to dream of sonnets through the night.  Titania: Queen Titania is Queen of Cuddles! She is the sibling most likely to hang back while her littermates are pouncing on each other in the yard. She loves to spend her days being cuddled like a baby, giving kisses and hugs out to all who meet her. Titania does love a romp around with her brother and sisters, but she knows that the best way to get attention is to sneak away for snuggles. This lovely gal will cast a spell over you and you will fall in love!  Viola: Little Viola is Little Miss Independent. She absolutely loves investigating the sights and sounds of the backyard, the toy bin, the puppy pen, and any other room she is allowed in. She also loves to zoom around with her siblings, showing off her skills as a runner! Viola is an absolute sweetheart and helps keep her siblings in line when they are being chaotic, and shows love to all who meet her! The Shakespeare Puppies are only an option for those who have owned a dog in the past 5 years. Homes with previous large breed experience will be prioritized as we want to ensure families are ready for the energy level and intelligence of the breed mix. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.May 26, 2024, 9:28 pm

Story
Meet Ella, a sweet 8-month-old pup who's had a rough start but has flourishing in her foster home! Despite her anxiety at the scary shelter, Ella showed the staff that she was very affectionate. She has quickly adapted to her foster home, showing impressive skills like leash manners, giving alternating paws, and mastering sit and down commands. Ella's an intelligent girl who adores treats, which makes training a breeze. Ella loves her people, snuggling with them and is super generous with her kisses.   Ella is already a pro at snuggling up in the car during road trips with her foster siblings. Ella has also learned that there's plenty of love to go around in her foster family, including three resident shepherds and Jouska, our other rescue puppy, who stayed with them for six days before moving to her foster home and recently getting adopted.   In typical shepherd fashion, Ella follows her people from room to room, settling in for cat naps while they do household chores. Her foster home also has a couple of kitties; and Ella has done well with them. With this set of kitties, she's very cat workable and friendly. And she's won the approval of the resident female shepherd who at first thought Ella was just a pest and needed to learn how to play nicely with other dogs. Ella has done her proud. Due to her foster families work and travel schedules, Ella attends doggy day care or heads over to relief foster homes at various times. Due to doggy day care attendace, Ella is fully vaccinated for influenza in additon to our core vaccines which include bordetella and at times lepto. She has spend time at various relief foster homes due to work and travel schedules; meeting Aries before he was adopted and the resident male and female resident shepherds. Ella is currently hanging out with a male shepherd in a relief foster home, while her family is out of town. She has also spent time with three male shepherds in another relief foster home in the 2.5 months she's been with us.  Ella prefers a slow intro to new dogs, and settles right when she gets the lay of the land.  Living with experienced shepherd folks, Ella has terrific leash manners and respects the rules of the household and dog packs. She's handled weekend excursions with her foster family and heads out for daily walks with the resident dogs to coffee shops and around San Jose regularly.  Enjoy her new vidoes and remember to check out additional vidoes of Ella and our other adoptable pups at https://www.youtube.com/@ShepHeroes Ella visited our vet while recovering from spay surgery for a sticth that was opening up and an ear infection right after arriving from the shelter. With a severe ear infection, some of her initial photos showed a head tilt.  She was a trooper during her visit for her errant stitch before heading home with antibiotics and ear meds. Her spay incision has healed and her ear infection has cleared, although her vet team says it may take up to 6 months for her ear to finally heal. This snuggle bug looks forward to finding her forever home, where she can grow and spread lots of joy. As with all of our puppies, please consider applying for Ella if you have experience raising shepherds or similar intelligent working breed dogs. They require physical and mental exercise, structure, training, and extensive environmental exposure to become neutral adult dogs.  ##1986210##

Story
Puck had a lovely time connecting with our volunteers who also adore him, and connected with his buddies Whiskey, BG and Gus Gus at Paws n Plays Sat Market for Dogs, you can catch some of the reels here and here. Thank you for visiting with us today, we love sharing our love of shepherds and our pups had great socialization.  Looking for a bundle of joy to light up your life? Look no further than Puck, our adorable 6-month-old Shepherd puppy! This little ball of fur is the epitome of cuteness and charm. Puck is not just your average puppy; he’s a superstar in his lovely temperament. He's a pro at sleeping in his crate, completely potty trained, easy in the car and brave in new places.  He recently traveled to Tahoe for an overnight stay, exploring the house and easily navigating steep stairs. With a great nose, Puck loved all the smells and sounds of Tahoe, including the beach, where he swam out further and further with each toss of his favorite stick.  Puck is so ready to be a swimmer in the pool, which is usually harder for pups compared to swimming from shore, but with his life jacket on, he's almost ready to leave the first step for the rest of the pool.  This energetic pup is passionate about playtime, especially involving his favorite toys, almost any toy, and hanging out with his furry friends. Whether it’s a game of fetch or a romp in the yard, Puck is always ready for fun. He's dog savvy, knowing pretty quickly which dogs are tolerant of his puppy shenanigans and which ones are hands-off. After giving all the dogs boundless kisses and climbing all over them, he quickly got the lay of the land that the younger shepherds are into playing. But don’t worry—Puck knows when it’s time to wind down, too. He loves nothing more than snuggling up at his foster mom’s feet while she works and taking cozy naps in between bouts of play. Puck has the cutest puppy snores when he's really tired. He is a source of endless kisses and snuggling right now. A solid pup, Puck's shown us that he is comfortable on all kinds of surfaces and super bright too. If not asked to be in his crate, you might find him dosing on top his crate or a box. Puck knows all about his crate and when asked, he'll stop to grab a toy and head right in. He settles without a peep until you're ready to have him join all the activities.  Puck came to us wanting to inhale his food and rudely scope out the other dogs' bowls, so he initially ate from a slow feeder bowl in his crate and learned that there is plenty of food to go around in our care. Puck now eats with the resident dogs, with everyone respecting each other's bowls, although once all are done, he joins the round-robin of licking the empty bowls.  Although he's lost some puppy teeth in favor of adult ones coming in, he's not mouthy so his prior household appears to have worked with him. He selects his toys to help with the achey teeth and settles right next to his people, he's easy going with his toys selecting replacements out of the basket when he looses one to the other dogs or under the couches.  Puck keeps his super glossy, soft black coat with baths. He easily sits in the shower, enjoying the water and scrubs. Puck loves water so much that we've had him swim in Lake Tahoe and the pool. He's a brave little guy who's progressing lovely with his swimming skills.  Since Easter weekend, Puck has been living with his original relief foster family. He's so good and fits right in that his foster family easily works from home while caring for him. He shares his foster home with two kids and their female shepherds. Puck is a regular at the kids' track meets and soccer games, always available for snuggles and loves. And some bonus pup cups. He visits his original foster home a couple of days a week for the day to hang out with all of his buddies while his foster family heads into the office.  Puck is a solid-temperament pup. He is easy to walk on a leash without any fears, happy to meet kids and adults in new places, and has a waggy tail and happy demeanor. He recently met an older couple, and we loved seeing him adjust his pace.  If you’re ready to add joy to your family, Puck is your perfect match! Puck, Gus Gus, and BG were featured on Fox 40's Big Day of Giving segment this morning, May 2nd. If you didn't catch a glimpse of these sweet pups live on the air, we've attached the segment to our playlist here. Please join us in thanking the Sacramento Community Foundation and Fox 40 for the opportunity to showcase our work along with Blackberry Creek Farm Animal Sanctuary. Puck loved meeting everyone at the April 7th Paws n Play Sacramento's Market Place,  the April 20th Sacramento SPCA Doggy Dash and American River Parkway Foundation's Bike Fest. If you met him at these events, you know how he steals hearts wherever he goes. Adopt Puck, and you’ll gain a loyal companion who will bring endless love and laughter into your home.  Let's find him a great forever home that is training and structure oriented as this little guy can charm his way into trouble, he'll need a shepherd experienced home.  ##2000719##
