Meet Xena, a gorgeous, gentle girl who wins hearts everywhere she goes. She’s sweet and calm, but also loves a little adventure — fetch, outdoor lounging, and belly rubs are her favorites. She’s fully potty trained, crate trained, great on leash, and knows lots of commands. Xena adjusts beautifully to new environments and matches the energy of the person she’s with. She’s been around crowds, kids, strollers, and busy markets with total ease. She's not the biggest fan of other dogs though, so she'd prefer to avoid those! In her previous home she loved toys (especially Chuck-it balls), though shelter stress has made her a bit quieter here. She’s part of our special care program due to a minor eye injury that may need attention later, but it doesn’t affect her vision or slow her down. If you’re looking for a loving, loyal, easygoing companion, Xena is ready to be your best friend. Xena is spending some much needed time in foster care! This pet has been patiently waiting for a family for longer than we'd like, making them a special member of our Length of Stay Program. To help them start their next chapter, they'll go home with plenty of goodies to make the transition easier, such as supplies, enrichment items, or other adoption perks. Judy is spayed and fully healthy! She is up to date on vaccines. She is also microchipped! Judy is living in a foster home. Tends to bark/pull/jump on leash towards other dogs and/or people and will benefit from a calm neighborhood and experienced handler, or a backyard. 🐶: Gets along with other dogs and may enjoy having a canine companion. She has done well with respectful dog pals! 😺: Judy has not interacted with cats while in our care but is likely not a match due to prey drive towards critters. 🧒 Adults-Only Home Preferred: Feels most comfortable in a home without children. Judy is the ultimate lover girl! She is so affectionate and sweet, following her person around, being near them at all times, and even giving “hugs”. She’s got bouncy goblin ears that are full of personality and the most boopable snoot. She’s so playful and goofy, often entertaining herself with toys, especially stuffed ones, (but ultimately prefers to play with you, especially fetch). She also likes using her brain to do enrichment tasks and learning new things. She’s a one-of-a-kind lady who needs a little extra attention, but she’s so worth it! Judy has mild hip dysplasia and has been taking joint supplements and anti-inflammatory meds while in our care. Her adopter and their private vet should monitor/manage this going forward. 🧬 Judy has been DNA tested for fun! Luka is new here! Stay tuned for more info on this precious pup! Chicago Animal Care and Control is located at 2741 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, and is open from 12pm to 7pm daily. Walk-in visitors are welcome and helped on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are planning to adopt the day you visit, please plan to arrive before 5:30pm. Visitors arriving after 5:30pm will still be able to view animals in Pavilions A-B-C until 7pm. All dogs will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption. All household members should be present to meet dogs (especially those under 18 and any decision-makers). We recommend and can arrange dog-to-dog meet and greets for your current dog(s) to meet a potential dog sibling at the shelter. You will need to show proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination for your dog(s). Slow, cautious, and appropriate introductions are recommended after you allow time for decompression for the shelter dog.
