Bao Bei14 years oldSpayed FemaleGerman Shepherd Mix Introducing Bao Bei! Bao Bei is a gorgeous super senior lady who known around the shelter to be sweet as pie. She is looking for a nice, quiet home to live out the rest of her golden years where there are plenty of soft places to rest and someone willing to give her lots of love and attention. While she is an older woman, Bao Bei still has some spring left in her step and loves to go on strolls where she can sniff and trot to her heart`s content. Bao Bei is deaf and has other medical conditions that will require follow-up care with a veterinarian to keep her comfortable as she continues to age. She may able to live with another low-key dog or cat with a slow and proper introduction. If you`d like to see if Bao Bei would be a good fit for you, come in during open hours to learn more! If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs. We got Tilly as a rescue a while back when we had a huge house with a big yard. Now we live in a small apartment and it's just not working out as we hoped. She loves people but takes a little while to warm up to dogs if she's on-leash. Great inside the fence at dog parks!

Story
Before calling about this dog, please read our adoption requirements at: https://gsrne.org/requirements-for-adopting-from-gsrne/ Hi! My name is Muks, and could You be my Forever Family? But first, I have to tell you something a bit embarrassing from a dog’s perspective. I couldn’t believe when I read in Wikipedia’s ‘Wiktionary’ that the definition of my name is “the sound of someone falling over”! They said my name is an onomatopoeia, whatever that is. How can this be? I never fall over! In fact, I love to be the dog on the go whether it’s hiking with my foster dad, playing outside with the kids, chasing balls in the backyard, or going to training and learning all about how to be the best dog I can be! The only time I admit to falling over (well…rolling over, actually) is when belly rubs are coming my way. And if you scratch my tail, I’ll even do my special little happy dance for you! At first I was a little nervous meeting other dogs as I hadn’t been around a lot of them. But with training and help from my foster dad, I’ve been told I’m more confident, respectful, and friendly with dogs. In fact, I’ve become quite the young man. And I’m way well-behaved in the home - no counter surfing, no jumping on furniture, and I give people their space when they have work to do. Yay, me! And I’m not sure I want to live alone. Since I’m such a nice young man but could still stand some confidence building, I wouldn’t mind living with the right female dog, a good-natured pal I could play with and continue to learn from - like the all-important mission of dogs the world over: how to convince people to give us more treats! And since I’m not quite two years old I have a lot of energy to burn and would love it if you’d take me for training, maybe explore doing scent-work, agility, or other fun stuff to do. And when the day is done, just roll over for those belly rubs. I can’t wait to meet you!

Story
Are you an active person seeking a likeminded companion for life’s adventures? Well then Tank just may be your guy. Tank is a gorgeous, athletic 2 year old male who’s always on the go. You know those hilarious Facebook/Insta Reels or TikToks your friends send you about the dogs carrying the log 6x the size of their body? This would most definitely be Tank! He loves everything play, he is not a couch potato and will keep you on your toes. We suspect he is likely a working line GSD so he has great drive. He wants to please and needs mental stimulation. We believe he has potential for SAR work or other sporting events. He’d make a great hiking partner. Tank is affectionate and loves to be with his people. He did have a female GSD housemate so, with proper introductions, he could live with another similarly sized female tolerant of his energy. Like all GSDs of his caliber, training and routine are a must. If you make the commitment to Tank, you will have one amazing sidekick. Apply today.

Story
https://gsrne.org/dog-bios/stella-2/ Sometimes a dog comes along that is simply unforgettable.  Those of us involved with Stella have probably experienced every single emotion a dog rescuer goes through 4-fold while working her case.  Only Stella herself has been able to heal our hearts and remind us why we do what we do.  Even if Stella is not the dog for you, we ask that you read her story and share it with others. Late last year we received a call from a Good Samaritan asking us to help place a young German Shepherd female.  She had an older dog and had already committed to adopting a different puppy when she heard about a breeder giving away a young GSD for “free”.  Something didn’t sit right with her so she asked to meet the dog and found young Stella emaciated, covered in feces and fleas, and cowering in a crate.  The breeder told her that Stella was “fine” in the crate 18 hours a day.  She was being given away due to the fact she couldn’t be bred due to a leg deformity (more to come on that).  Our Good Samaritan was not in a position to take on a 3rd dog and had other familial, work, and financial responsibilities, but she COULD NOT leave Stella in that situation so took ownership and brought her home with her that day.  She immediately began getting Stella healthy and, when the time was right, called us to help rehome her.  Wow does the world need more people like her! Stella stayed with the Good Samaritan for a more few months while we found a foster home. We learned that she loved the grandkids in the home; she was so sweet with them. We also learned that Stella moves very well and has lots of energy despite having, well, 5 legs!  Specifically, her right front leg didn’t form correctly so it splits into 2 pieces. In her new foster home, Stella has fallen in love with her GSD brother.  They adore playing with each other.  Seeing the 2 dogs together is such a joy for us. Despite the unusual appearance of her legs, we haven’t found other health concerns and she has been spayed.  She is now a normal weight.  We had an orthopedic colleague of her foster mom look at the X-rays and we have decided not to take any surgical intervention.  The appendage can’t be removed without taking the whole leg and Stella does at times use the leg.  Stella moves and runs well unassisted, and we don’t feel it’s in her best interest to fix something that “ain’t broke” for cosmetic reasons.  If issues arise with her leg later in life, GSRNE will support her adopters with treatment at that time. A dog’s resilience never crease to amaze us. Just a few short months ago Stella was cowering in a crate covered in her own filth and now she is a happy, healthy girl who has learned how to be a dog and how to love and trust.  Because her relationship with her foster GSD brother has been of such benefit for her, we would ideally like to find her a forever home with a large breed male.  Stella will need continued socialization, training,  and will be a wonderful companion to the person or family that sees her true inner and outer beauty.

Story
In late May, we received a call from an ACO who picked up a young stray female. This girl gave the police officers quite the chase and when they finally caught her no owner came forward. Her active, playful personality captured the heart of the ACO and he could see that she needed to gain weight but admired her coat of rich black with accents of tan. He was really invested and wanted to help this sweet dog, so, when we agreed to help, we asked him to pick a name for this pretty girl. He chose Freya, a name of Old Norse origin that shares its namesake with the mythical Freyja the goddess of love and beauty. We thought this was the perfect name for this beautiful dog. Freya is approximately a little over a year old. With no foster home available she stayed at the shelter for a brief period and was then moved to a board/train facility. We’ve had her with a trainer for the past month who has really helped her with some basic obedience and manners. Freya reacts well to other dogs and wants to play when given the chance. If the other dog is unsure and barks, she will chime in with her own barking. She would be happy living in a family with another dog or could also be an only dog, soaking up all the attention. If you're looking for an intelligent, inquisitive puppy and enjoy going for walks and doing activities with your dog, please ask us about Freya. We know the right GSD savvy home is out there to give this sweet beautiful girl the finishing touches on her training to let her shine like the mythical Freyja she was named after.
