Story
Kodiak is a beautiful, sweet, and lovable dog who has completely stolen the hearts of myself and my family over the past four years. This decision is incredibly difficult, but I’ve come to realize that Kodiak needs a different environment in order to thrive. While she is wonderful in so many ways, Kodiak has had issues getting along with our other female dog, Presley (a dachshund). The first incident happened after about a year, and while we thought it was an isolated situation, she unfortunately attacked Presley again in October 2024, which required medical care. During that same week, there was a second incident. Since then, we’ve kept the dogs separated, but I feel this has only increased her frustration toward Presley, even through the crate. We also have a small male dog, Bandit, and we believe the conflict between Kodiak and Presley is related to them both trying to establish dominance. We worked with a trainer and received tools to help Kodiak, but due to a very difficult 2025

Story
Unfortunately, due to an upcoming move, I need to find a new home for my dog. His name is Taz, and he’s 4½ years old. He’s a very sweet boy and doesn’t need much—just love, care, and affection. I’m looking for a responsible owner who will take good care of him and give him the attention he deserves. I can also provide some of his belongings to help with the transition, including bowls, collars, and other essentials. If you’re interested or would like more information, please reach out.

Story
Introducing Julia! Julia is a gorgeous 2-year-old shepherd mix with a sleek coat, graceful build, and soulful eyes that draw you right in. She carries herself with grace, almost like a little deer, and her tall, expressive ears show exactly what’s on her mind. Julia is gentle, sweet, and very loyal—just like a true shepherd, she chooses her person and sticks by their side through thick and thin. She’s pretty low energy and would be perfectly content with the occasional stroll, followed by plenty of cuddle time. Her affectionate, easygoing nature makes her a joy to be around. She does well with kids, cats, and other dogs, and she’s food-motivated, crate trained, and housebroken. Julia is spayed, fully vaccinated, and ready to devote all her love and loyalty to her forever family

Story
This is MACON! The handsomest 2 year old male who is a very striking breed of dog and dog. Seriously, we're not sure his breed but we know he'll be a larger pup and he's wonderful. Macon was found running down the middle of the highway in Macon County, was found by some kind souls who took him in. Macon loves other dogs and kids, but he has a bit too much energy for the good Samaritans that found him. He foster sister is a 13 year old Chi that Macon is very respectful to, but the Chi is a bit cantankerous and doesn't like to share. Macon knows his manners, caught on to the basics very quickly, he knows to sit, stay and other basic commands. He absolutely LOVES toys. His fosters say he could chase a tennis ball or frisbee forever (fetch level pro) but he does very well when let inside to cuddle on the couch too. If you are interested in having this wonderful pup join your family, please let us know using this link: dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form. From there, we'll forward your application to his foster family who will be in touch. ======================================================================================== If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
Meet Sandy!Sandy is a beautiful young German Shepherd mix with the perfect mix of playful energy and cuddle-bug sweetness. Found as a stray and now thriving in foster care, she’s ready for her forever home!Sandy is great with other dogs of all sizes and has done well meeting cats — she’ll happily play if they’re friendly and politely backs off if they’re not. She loves people and is very affectionate.Because of her excitement and energy, Sandy is best suited for a home with kids ages 10 and up. She previously had a minor bite incident with a toddler, so she needs a family who understands appropriate dog-kid boundaries. She walks nicely on leash, rides well in the car, and is fully house-trained. Sandy is also happy in her crate and settles easily.Sandy is still young and active, so she’s looking for an engaged family who will give her daily exercise and mental enrichment. After playtime, she’s all about the snuggles and loves curling up close to her people. Most of all, Sandy wants a loving, active home to call her own.Name: SandyBreed: German Shepherd Dog/CrossbreedSex: FemaleAge: 2-3 years  (estimated)Weight: 55 lbsSpayed/Neutered: YesVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:Good with Dogs: YesGood with Cats: YesFULL DISCLOSURE: Although Sandy lived with a 4-5 year old previously, she should not live with children under 10 years of age - she had a MINOR bite incident with a toddler.
