Story
Please contact June Song (JuneS@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet shepherd ISO fresh start and love! RACHAEL NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Rachael Best Guess for Breed: German Shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of August 2023 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 67 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested Currently Living at: DC area foster home. Special adoption considerations: Rachael is a truly Lucky Dog. Although she has tested positive for heartworms, but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process. Rachael is Looking For: Her forever family! German shepherds are known for their strong attachments to their humans, and Rachael wants nothing more to know who her people are. She's out of the puppy yips and is ready to accompany her family on long sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up. Trips to the mountains - hanging out in the park and people watching - Starbucks stops for pup cups - she's there with you for it all! She's also super smart and is eager to participate in training and other mental enrichment activities. She is stocking up on adoring gazes and tail wags for her new humans, and promises loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Is Rachael the companion you have been seeking? What My Foster Says About Me: Rachael is an absolute sweetheart! She was unsure of certain things like getting into the car, flooring, and stairs but has overcome quickly her uncertainty with some coaxing. She is indeed the green dog and doesn't know much with how to be in the house, walking on leash, or any commands but is a very quick learner! She may not be in her younger years but learning never stops and the shepherd in her is definitely up for it! She does well with dogs, mostly just interested in saying hi, and moves right along. Currently, she is living with a young child and Rachael is great with her! We also have cat(s) in the home, and she was quite stimulated initially(not sure if she has ever met one) but is learning to be calm around them and doing well! Rachael is a gem of a pup and would make a great addition to any home! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
