You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Tammy (tnhuck@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet.Update 13 September 2024 Pancake 6757 is a 4 year old sweetheart who has been in the rescue for quite some time. She came to us very sick and emaciated. Pancake had EPI which had been left untreated. She requires enzymes for her EPI. Her foster family has her looking beautiful! She’s healthy and is a petite girl even filled out! Pancake is a higher energy gal who would love a fenced-in yard and an energetic canine playmate.  Seniors and small children would not be a great fit for her.  She plays almost constantly during doggie play dates.  Pancake is weighing in around 55lbs, which the vet said is a good weight for her.  She does well at the vet, she is getting better with leash walking but still pulls (and she is very strong), and she does not like thunderstorms.  She is a really sweet dog who would love to finally find her forever family! Please consider Pancake! Approved adopters may contact her foster parent at tnhuck@yahoo.com Update 10 June 2024 Pancake is up to a whopping 45 pounds!  Fortunately, she is food-motivated so she is making really good progress.  The vet suggested that she gain about another 10 pounds. Her sparkling personality is also shining through even more.  She loves to play fetch with tennis balls, chew on Nylabones, and play with furry squeaky toys, which she also enjoys shredding.  And that’s okay, she is a happy young lady who can entertain herself, given the right toys.  She does love interaction with human beings and she will come over for attention and follow a person around the home.  And she is a good guard dog with a loud, authoritative bark! To burn off some of her energy, I have taken Pancake for short (1-2 mile) runs around a local park.  She gets distracted easily so it is a bit of a challenge, but she does enjoy the extra time outside and she is noticeably more poopered out at the end of the day.  Her leash manners are improving but they still need some work.  Sometimes she walks with neighbors and their dogs, so she is learning socialization skills. Pancake has attended two adoption events and done reasonably well.  She is a little anxious in new situations but she should get better about that as her confidence grows. 4/4/24. Pancake is a really sweet 3.5 year old white shepherd.   The best part about Pancake is her personality.  She is affectionate, house-trained and crate-trained.  She is well-socialized with people and she generally ignores or tolerates other dogs.  Her foster sister Pawlina 6087 is the same way, so they usually hang out in different parts of the living room.  Pancake enjoys being outside and going for walks; the world is her oyster!  Her leash manners could use some work – she is stronger than she looks and she likes to sniff pretty much everything. Unfortunately, Pancake has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, or EPI.  This means that she has to be on a restricted diet and have enzymes on her food.  The condition is easily managed but it makes her upkeep a little more expensive and time-consuming, as the enzymes need to be added to her food with warm water, and then the mixture needs to sit for at least 20 minutes before serving. We are working to get Pancake’s weight back up to normal and to figure out what diet will work for her, as well as her enzyme dose.  She had a vet appointment in March and she did great.  Her blood test came back negative for heartworms, and her fecal sample was negative for parasites.  She also had her nails trimmed.  She came into rescue with some sores on her legs; they are healing nicely and the vet removed the blue tape on them that can be seen in some of the photos.  Her right ear doesn’t stand up straight, and the vet said perhaps she had a hematoma in her younger years, but it adds to her charm.  Pancake behaved perfectly the entire time at her doctor’s appointment, she had no problem being handled by the vet and the techs. Pancake is currently living in a condo and she is not a barker, so she would do fine in any type of household.  She visits her foster cousins on the weekends in a single-family home, and she doesn’t play in the yard with the other dogs, she prefers the company of people. Pancake is spayed and up-to-date on shots.  She is living in Arlington, VA and she plans to attend adoption events in Northern Virginia.  Approved adopters may contact her foster parent at tnhuck@yahoo.com  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 13, 2025, 9:28 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Cathy (cmfwebmail@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Following life as a stray and rescue from an overcrowded rural shelter, Sarge entered foster care and a new beginning. He is very sweet, smart, treat-motivated, walks well on leash, and house-trained. He is respectful meeting other dogs but not a dog park type. Although very interested in cats and other small animals, he is likely not compatible living with them. He has a medium energy but is extremely active and needs something to focus on throughout each day. He loves playing ball, traveling and exploring new places, and lots of outdoor time and activities. Sarge is working through separation anxiety with a departing routine and needs the same willingness to work it through in his forever home. He needs a pack leader with GSD experience and commitment to training, discipline, socialization, boundaries, and physical/mental challenges. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 15, 2025, 11:01 am

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Peanut is not crate trained, he has had free run of the house with no problem. He is affectionate , loving, and sticks close to my side.Peanut has a lot of energy. He loves going for walks and once you throw him the ball, he can entertain himself by throwing it around and batting it with his paws. I think he would do well by having another dog to play with. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Dean ( Blue collar ) came to us/me on 9/26/25 with his brother  Sam (7162) ( Red Collar ) as urgent pleas from a NC  animal shelter. They were in pretty bad shape and terrified. They looked and are malnourished and dehydrated and weighing 35 lbs. They are coming out of their shells. They are sweet pups that do well in their crates but don't like to be separated for long but getting better.  Dean is scheduled for neuter January 14 2026. He is up to date on shots and on Nex Gard and Heart Gard. The vet puts him at about a year old.      They are small and don't think they will be much more than 40 to 45lbs. ( my guess ) they are eating like big dogs  almost 6 cups each a day.  I gave them both baths today AND trimmed their nails! they were actually very good. They actually act like they barely knew what playing outside was about. they have that figured out now. They are in Spotsylvania, VA. near lake anna if you'd like to meet them.  I am listing them as available a bit before they are ready. I prefer you to call me with questions but e mail is next best.                                      Thanks for your interest                                                 Russell Bruno                                        e mail : hd4me13@aol.com                                        phone : 410 949 7555Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 21, 2025, 2:35 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Zeus update 9/26/2025 Zeus was returned to VGSR after 3 years because of the health of his adopter. He is the same happy boy just a little older and a little grayer. He still gets along with my dogs and is great in the house and is crate trained trained. If you are looking older calm dog Zeus is the boy for you.   4/30/2022 Zeus! What a babe....  he is so sweet, not a kisser, and just an overall happy dog.  Zeus is an owner surrender  because he didn't get along with the family cat. He ended up in a full shelter and the shelter reached out to us to save him.   Zeus gets along fine with dogs, and he loves kids and people in general.  What does he love more than anything?  BALLS.  Any type of ball, but mainly large tennis balls. He is very athletic!  Will catch a ball in his mouth 90% of the time when you throw it in the air. He will bring it back to you and drop it and wait for you to pick it up and throw again.  Zeus needs a yard and a family who will be dedicated to fetch!  He loves indoor fetch too - it doesn't matter to him!  Zeus does fine in a crate, needs a bit more leash training, and is potty trained. His former  owner didn't crate him and let him roam free in the house and he was not destructive. He is a bit vocal and very curious. He likes to see what you are doing.  He is up to date on all his shots and was recently neutered.  He is thin and needs about 10 more pounds on him.  He does love treats and knows how to sit.  He comes when he is called.   He deserves his forever family! He is a great dog, and the right family will know how blessed they will be to get to adopt this beautiful light eyed boy. Want to know more about him or schedule a meet and greet?  Approved adopters can contact htate1060@gmail.com for more info  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 27, 2025, 5:14 pm
