Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Zara 6278 is a blonde shepherd, between 4-6 years old. She has recently been spayed and is up to date on vaccines. Zara is still learning about living inside, walking on a leash, and having faith in two leggeders (humans). It is fairly obvious from some of her behaviors that she has lived a life of neglect. She will not eat if anyone is looking at her and desperately fears men. Zara has begun to trust the man in her foster home and will walk with him and another dog, but only if a female puts a leash on her first. She will not allow a man to touch her. Zara does not seem to know any commands. We have been working on sit, come, and her name. Zara is bright and affectionate and loves to play with our other dogs. She has not been cat tested or kid tested. She had occasional accidents in the house if her way outside appears to be blocked by a man. Zara needs a patient, woman only home, or a home with a soft spoken and gentle man. Approved adopters may email her foster at dianepmcintyre@gmail.com  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 4, 2024, 6:57 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Oso 6297! Oso is a gorgeous 2-year-old male. He is rather quiet for a young dog, but he has great social skills and greets every person and dog politely. He is playful with playful friends, but his favorite time of the day is nap time with his German Shepherd brother and 3 kitty siblings. Oso thought he had a happy life until he was dropped off at the vet for euthanasia. VGSR was given 48 hours to pull him, and Oso joined the VGSR family with a few hours remaining to this deadline. He came with many unaddressed medical issues including epilepsy, vision impairment, underweight, hypoglycemia and heartworm+. After a diagnostic X-ray, abdominal ultrasound, and MRI, working very closely with his medical team, and getting lots of TLC, he has improved significantly, and his seizures are much better controlled. He was initially believed to be vision impaired but his recent reactions to moving objects lead his foster mom to think he can see better than originally thought. He is now heartworm negative and maintaining a healthy weight.  Oso is getting more active and engaging, and loves playing tag with his doggy friends. He is still a young dog, so when anybody runs, he thinks it is playtime. He takes corrections well from his siblings. Oso is always near his doggy brother but leaves him alone if his brother wants his own space. He also spends a lot of time with a dog savvy, dominant cat. He will do best with companion animals who are dominant enough to correct him or are unfazed by his behavior. While he acts no different from other healthy dogs, his overall health and medication for his seizures must be monitored. If you are interested in Oso, please contact his foster mom (operationhailey@gmail.com) for further information. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.10/31/23. Blair is a 60 lb. 9 month old spayed female GSD.  She is 90% potty trained and crate trained.  She is being fostered in Arlington 22204 where she lives together with Artemis 6434 and the resident male GSD.  This is not a guarantee that she will get along with every dog she meets, just a data point. Blair was surrendered to VGSR because she went after chickens.  So be forewarned that she has some prey drive, will be distracted by squirrels and probably is incompatible with cats. Blair has soulful, almost human eyes and is very pretty.  She is also a bit of a goofball and will try to climb all over you once she decides she likes you.  Although she can be playful, I have noticed no aggressive traits in Blair.  If anything, she is a bit shy and she will react to external stimuli such as other dogs, large vehicles, and squirrels.  What Blair needs, to make the transition from puppy to dog, is some manners, continued socialization, and desensitization from the things that make her uncomfortable.  An obedience class or other group class aimed at the above-mentioned goals is highly recommended. Blair is quite athletic and would likely enjoy an active household. Blair would benefit from the presence of a mature, non-threatening dog as a housemate, but will likely be ok as an only dog as well. If you are an approved adopter and would like to help Blair along in her life journey, please contact arivederci@aol.comVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 4, 2024, 6:57 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Indiana 6331 is a gorgeous 8 month shepherd mix who has soulful eyes and a playful disposition! She loves toys, being pet, and will sit still when getting her pawdicure from her Foster mom. Indy is being fostered with her sister Francisca 6332, another gorgeous and smart GSD mix, a 7yo male shepherd mix, 3yo Female GSD, and a cat. She wants to love on all the dogs and has been respectful of the cat. With springs for knees, Indy will need a tall fenced yard and plenty of walks and exercise. House trained, crate trained, and eager to warm your lap or feet, Indy will make a wonderfully loyal companion for a GSD savy household. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Francisca 6332 is a gorgeous 8 month shepherd mix who has sharp attentive eyes and an eager to please disposition! She loves playing with her sister, such as tug or 'what's in your mouth?' , exploring all of the nooks and crannies of her surroundings, and will sit pretty when getting treats from her Foster mom. Frankie is being fostered with her sister Indiana 6331 who is another gorgeous and cuddly GSD mix available for adoption, a 7yo male shepherd mix, 3yo Female GSD, and a cat. She wants play with all the dogs, and may be a bit overly enthusiastic for some, and has been curious of the Foster's cat, so a proper introduction to any felines would need to be supervised and gradual. Frankie has some bounce in her step so will need a tall fenced yard and plenty of walks and exercise. Mostly house trained, crate trained, food motivated, and too smart for her own good, Frankie will make a wonderfully loyal companion for a GSD savy household. If you are an approved adopter and would like to schedule a meet and greet, please email Frankie's foster at amanda.vgsr.foster@gmail.com Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 4, 2024, 6:57 pm
