Story
Our Adoption Radius is One Hour (60 miles maximum) of Zip Code 20906. Emerie the Shepherd mix is here to steal your heart... and maybe your socks. This 4-5 month old firecracker is the perfect package of cuteness, with a dash of "been-through-it-all" sprinkled on top. Why the "been-through-it-all" you ask? Well, Emerie had a bit of a rough start. She got hit by a car and needed a leg amputation, but that doesn't slow this pup down one bit! In fact, she's mastered the art of balancing on three legs in just two days, and conquering stairs with the help of a friend took a whole five days (what a slacker!). Now, Emerie is on the hunt for her forever family. She's a playful pup who wants to be your best friend, even if the other dogs are giving her the stink eye. She's vocal about wanting out of her crate, but don't be fooled - she's an angel child when you're not around (we have camera footage to prove it!). Emerie is a typical puppy, meaning she's got all the standard puppy quirks: nipping, biting, chewing, barking, and the occasional accident. But hey, that's just part of the fun, right? Emerie is waiting for her happily ever after, and it could be with you! Think you can handle the cuteness and the chaos? If you live within an hour (60 miles maximum) of zip code 20906 and are ready to commit to training this amazing pup, then email Tascas.Love@gmail.com for an application.

Story
DESCRIPTION:  Apollo's owner loved him greatly but struggled to keep him safe and in the household. As a result, Apollo spent too much time wandering about the neighborhood and checking in with the neighbors.  Unfortunately, this resulted in too many trips to animal control. Due to his frequent visits, Animal Control decided that Apollo would be safer if he moved forward with a new family.  Apollo is a big, sweet guy. Although it is clear that he has not had a lot of structure prior to his arrival, he is a quick learner and seems to prefer a calm yet confident handler. Apollo has lived with a couple of cats and has done well with them. He seems unaffected by their presence and is calm with them around. Having met a variety of dogs in his travels, Apollo has made it clear that he can live peacefully with another dog. However, he is not a big fan of high-energy dogs who get in his face. We can't blame him for setting his boundaries. Apollo is looking for a forever home that will provide him with the guidance and routine that will help him thrive. He will benefit greatly from training with his new family. This will not only help him bond to his new family but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. If your household is looking for a big, laid back guy, ask to meet Apollo today! April 11, 2024, 6:36 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION:  Molly is the mom to the 11 Hogwarts puppies. This family was part of a cruelty and neglect case within Maryland. Upon their arrival at the shelter, staff did everything they could to begin working with this family. They were able to foster Molly's puppies out within the MAGSR family; however, Molly needed to remain at the shelter while she awaited a decision on her case. Although she was extremely emaciated, covered with fleas, and weak, Molly appreciated the kindness of staff members and slowly began warming up to new people. Shelter staff worked hard to help Molly begin the recovery process and began getting her some much needed vetting. However, Molly was significantly weakened by the years of mal-treatment and the need to keep her puppies healthy and strong. As a result, a case of kennel cough quickly escalated. When volunteers came through to move Molly into the MAGSR family, they knew something was not right. Molly's kennel cough had evolved and become two-fold. She now had pneumonia and bronchitis. Fortunately, our team came together to ensure that Molly was safe and received all the care she needed. With time, patience, and some extra TLC, Molly has made significant strides. Her body is much stronger and she is ready to move forward.  Molly is an intelligent and energetic dog. She is looking for an active and experienced forever family that will help her meet her full potential. Having survived horrifying conditions in her previous household, Molly is looking for a home where she can be the focus of the family. A home where she can be the only pet would be her ideal situation. This way she can soak up all of the love and attention of her family while filling their lives with giggles, snuggles, and endless kisses. As she continues to move forward, Molly will need to exercise her body and her mind on a daily basis. Not only will this help her find a good balance within the household but it will also help her use her mind effectively. Molly is a big fan of toys and can be found playfully throwing them around while making her goofy sounds. She is good at keeping herself entertained but also enjoys a good game of fetch. This smart little lady is already picking up commands. She is learning to sit, down, drop it, come, and roll over. She can't wait to learn more! Food and praise motivated, Molly will be a blast at training. Training is essential as it will help Molly develop a strong, healthy bond with her family. It will also help her further develop her skills and socialization so that she can develop into a good canine citizen. Molly is looking for an active home that will provide her with a lifetime of love and attention. Could that be with you? April 11, 2024, 6:36 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION:  Mattis was adopted out as a puppy from MAGSR. He attended puppy classes and grew into a big and intelligent guy. Mattis' family could no longer provide him with the type of care, attention, and living conditions that he needed to thrive. As a result, he was returned to the MAGSR so that we could find him the perfect forever family. We promised Mattis that we would find the right place for him as he moves forward.  Mattis is a big, handsome, and intelligent guy. Unfortunately, his medical needs were not addressed as expected so he arrived back in our care needing some support. With unaddressed skin issues, Mattis was very uncomfortable and required immediate veterinary support. We have begun working with our amazing vetting partners to help soothe Mattis' skin and bring him relief. He is receiving medication and baths and is already showing improvements. As we determine the root cause of Mattis' skin condition, we will make sure that he remains comfortable moving forward.  Having lived in a household, Mattis understands many of the ins and outs of living in a home. He is housebroken and crate trained. However, as is true of any new dog, he will need time to adjust to the expectations and routines of his forever family. With some more prominent classic GSD traits, such as guarding of the property, Mattis will thrive in a home that provides him with structure, routine, and leadership. Clearly responsive to a calm and confident handler, Mattis is looking for a more experienced household that understands the breed. Although we are beginning to provide Mattis with an understanding of basic commands, it is essential that his forever family takes him to training. Training will not only help Mattis develop into a good canine citizen, but it will also help him develop a strong, healthy bond with his forever family. Mattis is looking for a loving and active household that will keep him safe and loved. Could that family be you? April 11, 2024, 6:36 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION:  Beautiful Bailey was adored by her family. They knew she was a special girl and ensured that she had endless love, attention, and plenty of toys. However, when an unexpected event took place, they were unable to keep Bailey and provide her with the life they knew she deserved. Recognizing that we would provide Bailey with everything she needed to meet with success, her family made the heartbreaking decision to return her to the MAGSR. Knowing this was a very difficult decision, we promised we would find Bailey the perfect forever family.  Bailey is an active, intelligent, and playful girl. She loves her people fiercely and gives them every ounce of affection she has. With some very strong GSD traits, Bailey is loyal, protective, and on point. She tends to notice everything around her and keeps an eye on her people at all times.  As a girl with a high prey drive, smaller creatures can be a little too enticing for Bailey. She finds joy in chasing small creatures, such as rabbits and squirrels, and will need to be monitored closely if they are out and about with her. Fond of the outdoors, Bailey is always up for a long walk, hike, or adventure. She takes cues well from the handler and knows many commands. Lucky to have lived in a loving household for a few years, Bailey has developed a solid understanding of and appreciation for toys; she is hoping her forever family enjoys them too! She loves to play ball and can't help but enjoy a good squeaky toy. With a few years of experience living in a home, Bailey has also developed an affinity for a soft bed. She loves cuddling up on her dog bed and doesn't mind having a dog bed or two in the house just to change up viewpoints throughout the day. Although Bailey is crate trained and housebroken, once settled, she prefers to be out and about. This seems to keep her more settled throughout the day. As is true of all shepherds Bailey will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. Providing clear boundaries and expectations will help Bailey meet with success. Bailey has already completed some basic training; however, she is always up for more! Continued training is essential to Bailey's success. Not only will it help her develop her canine citizenship skills, but it will also help her develop a strong and healthy bond with her forever family.  April 11, 2024, 6:36 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION:  Handsome Storm lived in a home. However, due to an issue with the landlord, he was surrendered to a local shelter. Although shepherds typically struggle in shelters, Storm is special as he remained friendly and affectionate with staff. Recognizing that Storm deserved every chance to find a loving forever family, staff began searching for a shepherd rescue that would help this boy on his journey. Working with us to find the right circumstances to welcome Storm, the shelter staff provided this guy with the safety and security needed to move forward.  Storm is a friendly and playful guy. He has handled all of the changes in his life like a champ. However, it is important that Storm's forever family recognize that he has been through a lot and will need time to adjust to his forever home. Having moved into an incredible foster home, Storm has been enjoying the comforts of a soft bed and calm environment. He has quickly charmed his foster family. As Storm continues to move forward, he will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. This is typical of all GSDs. Training will go a long way with this boy. Not only will training help Storm develop a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen.  While at the shelter, staff noticed some concerns with Storms hips. They took the important steps of getting him to a vet who began running tests and x-rays. It was discovered that Storm has severe hip dysplasia. At this time his right hip is of greatest concern. However, an injury to his cruciate ligament was also found within Storm's right knee. By the time he was seen, he had already lost a lot of muscle around his hips and legs. Storm has begun to receive the care he needs to move forward. He is being monitored by our incredible vetting team while we rebuild muscle. He will also begin working with an orthopedic specialist in order to determine next steps for an orthopedic repair. Storm's care will be very expensive; however, we know he is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to his medical needs. Your donation will not only help us continue to move Storm forward, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need. Storm will be taking it slow over the next few months while we help him heal. Please continue to watch for updates on his care.  April 11, 2024, 6:36 pm

Story
Budley is a very handsome male, 2 yr old (DOB:10/27/21) Belgian Shepherd Dog(Malinois) mix. Budley was adopted as a young pup and lived inside a home with a cat for his friend and a teenage boy who adored him. Sadly, he lost his home during a divorce and was 1 hr away from being dumped after multiple attempts to find a shelter for him. A group effort of rescuers saved Budley and he is a fantastic dog! Budley sits on command and was already house, crate & leash trained. He has been vetted, microchipped is on heartworm prevention. He had to gain weight before he is neutered but that will happen very soon. This dog is so playful! He LOVES to play fetch, chasing after a toy but playing keep away when you try to get the toy back. He loves people and wants to play with other dogs. Although he is a XL dog, he would be a great family dog but may accidentally knock over small children. would prefer a family with kids 12 and up.
