Story
Hello! This is Dobby. He is a 1.5 year old Great Dane. We acquired him through a neighbor who was fostering for a rescue. He was 4 months old and timid due to his unstable beginnings but has since come a long ways! We have yet to have a negative experience with him meeting new dogs. Dog park setting is best as he gets very curious while on a leash and tends to want to run up to new ones. We don’t allow it as he is larger than most and don’t want to intimidate anyone. As a military family, our up-rooting and busy schedule has made me turn to this route of rehoming. On top of my homeschooling, our recent move drastically downsized our living space and Dobby’s quality of life has diminished. I would love a more stable home for him as our constant moving exasperates his anxious tendencies. He would do amazing in a stable, loving home. Dobby is as sweet and cuddly as they come and lives up to the nickname “gentle giant”. P.S. Currently getting shots up to date

Story
Frank is a 4 year old neutered male 100% European Great Dane that has been raised with children of all ages. He has good house manners but does not understand a crate or being closed in a room alone. Frank does well with medium sized and larger dogs with proper introduction. NO LIVESTOCK NO CATS. While gentle with his people, Frank is a natural protector, takes his role seriously & needs proper introduction to strangers entering his home. Large breed experienced owner recommended. Frank needs to gain confidence with leash work as he has always had a large yard to play in. He understands basic obedience & will ring a bell to go outside. Frank is looking for a new couch due to increased demands of full time care of a family member with dementia.

Story
I have spent the majority of my life in rescue. I started out as a puppy in a California rescue "One Dane At A Time" and when my foster home moved to Ohio she brought me with her. Finally after 3 years in rescue I was adopted but that only lasted a year and well, I am again looking for a forever home. At first I thought I would be making the trip back to California but my new Grandma here in Ohio said I could stay here and find my forever home!! Update 7/3: Great News!! I will definitely be celebrating the Fourth of July because I am NOW ready for adoption!! I am a very loving girl and I do love my toys but I am a good girl I do not tear them up although at times they get a tiny rip when I am playing with it but I never shred them!! I love other dogs and cats as well!! Actually I can best be described as I just love life!! If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, you will need to follow the adoption procedures on our website. https://hhdane.com The procedures are on the right-hand menu. https://hhdane.com/hhdane/procedure.htm I have also pasted them below for your convenience. Thank you for your interest in our dogs. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Our adoption area is Ohio and Extreme Northern Kentucky (Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties). We do not adopt to any other areas. For exact area go to FAQ. All of our rescue dogs are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. All shots including lyme and rabies are given. They have been wormed, checked for heartworm, lyme disease & ehrlichia, and placed on heartworm preventative. All dogs are kept for a minimum of one month for temperament evaluation and to be house trained. Registration papers are returned to the AKC as per their request and there are no exceptions. We require a fenced yard, fence must be at least 4 feet tall (48 inches) and must attach or surround with direct access to the building where the dog will be housed, NO Exceptions. Invisible and electric fences do NOT meet the requirements of a fenced yard. A yard of adequate size, to be determined on an individual basis. All pets in the home must be altered and current on vaccinations prior to applying to adopt. Adopter must be at least 21 years of age at time of application. In some rare cases apartments and condos may be acceptable if they have direct access to a fenced area for the dog to relieve themselves. Apartments and Condos to be determined on an individual basis. If you live in a condo you must send us a copy of your condo association rules as well as the contact number for the condo association. We do not place puppies and young Danes in apartments or condo's. We do not accept checks or credit cards. If you are in the process of installing a fence, PLEASE DO NOT submit application until the yard is securely fenced. If you are in the process of purchasing your home or moving, PLEASE DO NOT submit your application until after you have moved and settled into your home. We are located east of Cincinnati, outside the town of Hamersville. Story
When my owners no longer wanted me they took me, to SPCA Cincinnati and tied me to their gate and left me! The next morning when the shelter workers showed up, they contacted Cincinnati Animal Care so I could serve my stray time. When my stray time was up the shelter contacted Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue to come for me. Within hours I was here at the rescue. Update 10/24: Well I got neutered today and NOW Grandma says I need to work on my manners before I can find my forever home. Hummmm I guess that means I need to be better with everyone not just her. Update 11/02: I am NOW ready for adoption!! I am still working on my manners, but I am getting better every day. Update 5/4/24: Well as you know I was adopted out in September 2023 and unfortunately it did not work out. I was so excited to have a family of my very own I went into protective mode and that made my adopters nervous. We tried to make it work but we decided they were not the right family for me. Update 6/11/24: I am now ready to try being adopted again. Grandma and I have taken lots of trips to the Vets office, feed stores etc. and I am no longer getting overly excited when I see strangers. Although I still do LOVE to meet people now I have learned I must have manners if I want them to pay attention to me. __________________________ If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, you will need to follow the adoption procedures on our website. Story
I was dumped on the country roads in Darke County Ohio the blacktop was so hot that it burnt my paws!! I am old and no longer of use to my owners as a breeding machine! The Darke County Humane Society helped my paws heal and as soon as my stray time was up Harlequin Haven came for me!! I am now resting and getting the much needed medical care and love I needed and longed for!! Update 8/28: Just a quick update. I was spayed last week, and I also had a couple of lumps removed, now we are waiting for the results to make sure the lumps were benign. Otherwise, I am just enjoying life! Update 9/8: I am now ready for adoption. My lumps were tested and came back as a mixed mammary tumor, which is pre-cancerous but no cancer cells detected. I am a big girl and very loving, I am however slightly sight impaired but it doesn't bother me at all.
