As a rescue, We do not euthanize dogs but dogs that are listed as URGENT are still waiting to be saved from animal control and they do euthanise. We can only save them when space is available or have an adopter. 1 1/2 years old This baby has found itself in a high kill animal control, adoptions nationwide are at an all time low, if your looking to adopt please do it now! All the urgent dogs are temperament tested in animal control, it’s not extensive but if they have made it this far they must be good dogs. All the dogs that are not marked as urgent are already in our rescue and we know more about them. They were all urgent once so anyone you adopt saves a life!

Story
🖤SHILOH🐾 Gentle, handsome, senior husky 🐕 After years of neglect, he’s safe in rescue & getting the care he deserves. We were told that he formally belonged to a neighbor who used to keep him on a chain and never let him in. But recently he had let him go and said he did not want him anymore. Probably because, Shiloh had a tumor growing on his underside and he did not want to be responsible. He has finished his antibiotics and steroids, and the tumor has been removed. The good news is …. It isn’t cancerous!!! And his heart and lungs, and all other x-rays were clear 🖤 True to his breed, he is vocal and full of adorable personality. He greets every human with a soft “awoooo” and lots of cuteness😍 Good with other dogs, but doesn’t need any in his forever home. He’s a bit of a loner. 🤣 In search of a yard to sunbathe in, snacks & pets from people that love him, and the opportunity to live out his golden years how he deserves 💕 If you’re interested in adopting a settled, senior boy, please consider welcoming Shiloh into your home! If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!

Story
Meet Douglas! A 1.5 year old Husky Shepherd Mix that is already with a foster up north & ready to complete your family! Douglas is a happy go lucky guy who’s never met a stranger, besides llamas. He doesn’t love them for some reason. Maybe it’s their underbite? 🤣 His ideal home is with kids, he adores them! He is the perfect mix of friendly and independent. Douglas is great at matching energy. He’s happy to snuggle on the couch, play fetch, ride in the car, but also understands if he needs to spend a little time in the kennel. He’s known to collect a few loose items and stores them in his kennel for later. 😆🐾 Douglas doesn’t complain about anything, but is happy to be a part of whatever is going on. Leash walking and recall are still a bit of a work in progress - There’s just so much to explore! Doug would love an active family, but is also happy on days that he doesn’t get in a long walk. He’s pretty much the perfect dog! 🐶 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and anywhere along our transport route to Rhode Island. All animals are microchipped and receive an interstate health certificate prior to transport. Adoption fees help towards this vetting, normal foster expenses, preventatives and sometimes boarding. Canine: Local adoption fee without transport- $250 adults, $295 puppies Adoption fee with interstate transport- $495-$595 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
Ken Local is currently in RI and looking for a 'furever' home! Ken is a stunning year-and-a-half-old Siberian Husky mix looking for his forever home. His early life was spent on a chain, so he's now eager to experience the love and freedom every dog deserves. Weighing in at 60 pounds, Ken is a high-energy dog who thrives on structure, patience, routine, and training. He's in-your-face and full of life, embodying typical Husky traits like being talkative, jumpy, and chewing. Ken is a handful, but his food motivation and eagerness to please make training easier. He gets along with other dogs but may need help learning social cues, as he missed out on early socialization. Ken's ideal home will be prepared to meet his energy needs, provide ongoing training, and understand the unique characteristics of the Husky breed. While he may require a lot of work, Ken promises to be an incredibly rewarding companion in the end. Are you the family Ken has been dreaming of?
