Story
We have received a large number of applications for Ella, and are not accepting new ones as we work our way through the ones that have come in. Ella may have been born in South Carolina, but she was made for the Chesapeake. This tiny, one-year-old chocolate doodle is happiest anywhere there’s water, whether she’s paddle boarding, soaking up the sun, or taking a dip in the pool. She is an absolute dream with the sweetest, most gentle personality. Ella loves dogs, cats, kids, and every grown-up she meets. She’s fully house- and crate-trained, rides beautifully in the car, and is the kind of easygoing companion who fits right into any adventure. If you’re looking for a lovable little sidekick who will happily join you on the water and then cuddle up at home (after you’ve dried her off, of course!), Ella is ready to make every day a little brighter. 🤎 My Profile Age: 1 year old Weight: 33 pounds Good with kids: Yes Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes Fenced yard: No Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: Yes House trained: Yes. Story
Hello! Meet Ace 🐾 Ace was born on September 23, 2021, and is a lovable, fun-loving dog with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He is incredibly playful, loves spending time with his people, and always finds a way to make everyone laugh with his goofy antics and silly expressions. We are making the difficult decision to rehome Ace due to the primary owner’s ongoing health issues. Unfortunately, these circumstances make it impossible for us to provide him with the time, attention, and care that he deserves. This decision comes from a place of love, and our goal is to find him a forever home where he can continue to thrive and receive all the care and affection he deserves. If you’re looking for a dog who is affectionate, entertaining, obedient, and full of love, Ace may be the perfect addition to your family. ❤️🐶

She's wonderful with kids, making her a fantastic addition to a family looking for a loyal four-legged friend who enjoys being part of the action. She also gets along great with other dogs, so she'd be thrilled to have a canine sibling to romp and play with—or she'd be just as happy soaking up all the love as your one-and-only.     Apply today and open your heart and your home to this wonderful girl—she'll show you just how much love a rescued dog can bring. Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Tipsy is house broken and not scared of lighting or thunder… she is not the pet to take with you to PetSmart she doesn’t like strangers or other animals. Trying to avoid putting her to sleep. She does bark a lot but the right owner could handle it.

Story
Hi, I'm Molly, I'm a small senior doodle. As you can see, I'm a beautiful, little girl. I'm probably some kind of doodle - maybe a labradoodle mix. I'm small - only around 30lbs so I'm mixed with something smaller than a labradoodle. I'm about 11-12 years old. Technically, I'm a senior but I act much younger and I'm very healthy. Also, I'm a great size. At around 30 pounds and low to the ground, my foster mom calls me a "low rider". I'm loving and affectionate with my people. I've had 2 homes so far and was sooooo sad to lose each one. I lived in one home for 3 years and another for about 8 years. Through no fault of my own, I was given up both times. I sleep well in my crate, and I love walks and car rides. I don't like to share with other dogs though, so I need to be the only animal in my new home. I am on special food due to having bladder stones when I was surrendered. On the new food, I have not had any further issues. I am looking for a new, patient and loving human sidekick. Reach out if that is you. I'm already vetted and spayed. I'm being fostered in Harrisonburg VA. I can be adopted to the DC metro area, the Richmond area and the Harrisonburg area. If you think you think you could give me a great home, please contact thekeneequeen@comcast.net Thanks. Molly

Story
Meet Bebe! She’s proof positive that you’re never too old to begin a new chapter. This darling girl finds herself looking for a new home because her owner is terminally ill and closest family members are allergic. At 12-13 years old and very overweight, this poses a bit of a challenge. But here's the good news, our Bebe is full of light and love and ENERGY. So we're looking at her current situation like a caterpillar in a cocoon just waiting to come out and fly. Her theme song is Patti LaBelle’s “New Attitude.” (We hope that doesn’t date us.) Currently she's a 40lb dog stuck inside a 50lb body and she's eager to shed the excess weight and start this next phase of her life. She has Cushings disease and will need to continue her medication to control it. Bebe has good house manners and has left most things alone. She plays with toys if you'll play with her and lives for belly rubs. She knows basic commands but can also be a little headstrong. She LOVES her walks or even just time meandering around the backyard. As the weight is falling off, she’s also starting zooms around the house and lots of play time. She’s definitely feeling herself! She is 99% house trained but has had a few accidents from stress. She wants to know where you are in the house and if she can't find you, she may stress pee. This has been mitigated by talking to her from wherever I am. She is also crate trained. She does well with most other dogs so far. She’s generally fine with them until they gruff at her. She’s a bit alpha in her play so would recommend pairing her with a more submissive dog. I’m excited to get to know her more and for you to join us on this journey. We'll be highlighting her weight loss journey along the way, which will be great for us both! Bebe's stats: Weight: 57lb, working her way down to 40 Age: 12-13 years Good with kids: Yes Good with other dogs: Some Good with cats: Unknown Fenced yard required: No OK for townhouse or apartment: Yes House trained: Mostly Crate trained: Yes Barks when left alone: I’ll bark when you leave, but then I’ll settle down. Chews inappropriate items: No Training: Knows sit and come. Needs more work but waiting to lose weight before training. Highly treat motivated. Activity Level: Low Needs experienced adopter: Not necessarily. Should be willing to learn about her medications. If you are interested in Bebe, consider letting us know by filling out a (no-obligation) adoption application. Please consult our Adoption FAQ before contacting us. Please check the adoption-show-attendees page (http://www.pgspca.org/adopt/adoption-show-attendees/) to see if Bebe will be attending the next adoption show. NOTE: We are an all volunteer group and do not operate a shelter. All of our animals are in foster homes. We are unable to place our animals outside of the Baltimore/DC area.

Story
Mammy Chikki is a very sweet dog who had a very rough time on the streets of India. She had to fight off monkeys and other dogs while trying to get food in a very hostile environment where people were trying to kill her because she was pregnant. My foster friends rescued her just in time and now she is in the land of opportunities with two of her puppies. Mammy will need to be the only dog in the house as she is scared of other dogs, and of cars in particular, due to people trying to run her down in India. She is ready to please, play, go for a walk, or just sit on the couch watching TV while chewing a Yak Cheese Chew, or any treat. She can be a finicky eater, and does not like dry food mixed with wet food. She needs a quiet home with a loving patient family that is able to understand her background. As a result of her experience on the streets, she shows some sign of PTSD as she is afraid of loud noise, screaming and hard environments. Mammy’s dream home will be with a nice quiet lady or mellow gentleman able to provide love, reassurance and trust in her new life. Namaste! Mammy Chikki's Profile Age: 6 years Weight: 32 pounds Good with kids: No Good with dogs: No Good with cats: No Fenced yard required: Yes Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: I could live in a townhouse, but not an apartment. House trained: Yes. Crate trained: Yes Barks when left alone: No Chews inappropriate items: No Activity level: Low I need an experienced adopter. Mammy Chikki is a courtesy post and not affiliated with our organization. To learn more about her or arrange to meet her, please call or text Morella at (415) 858-9731 or visit the website downwardfacing.dog.
