Story
Mammy Chikki is a very sweet dog who had a very rough time on the streets of India. She had to fight off monkeys and other dogs while trying to get food in a very hostile environment where people were trying to kill her because she was pregnant. My foster friends rescued her just in time and now she is in the land of opportunities with two of her puppies. Mammy will need to be the only dog in the house as she is scared of other dogs, and of cars in particular, due to people trying to run her down in India. She is ready to please, play, go for a walk, or just sit on the couch watching TV while chewing a Yak Cheese Chew, or any treat. She can be a finicky eater, and does not like dry food mixed with wet food. She needs a quiet home with a loving patient family that is able to understand her background. As a result of her experience on the streets, she shows some sign of PTSD as she is afraid of loud noise, screaming and hard environments. Mammy’s dream home will be with a nice quiet lady or mellow gentleman able to provide love, reassurance and trust in her new life. Namaste! Story
Meet Bebe! She’s proof positive that you’re never too old to begin a new chapter. This darling girl finds herself looking for a new home because her owner is terminally ill and closest family members are allergic. At 9-10 years old and dramatically overweight, this poses a bit of a challenge. But here's the good news, our Bebe is full of light and love and ENERGY. So we're looking at her current situation like a caterpillar in a cocoon just waiting to come out and fly. Her theme song is Patti LaBelle’s “New Attitude.” (We hope that doesn’t date us.) Currently she's a 40lb dog stuck inside a 65lb body and she's eager to shed the excess weight and start this next phase of her life. She has Cushings disease and will need to continue her medication to control it. Bebe has good house manners and has left most things alone. She plays with toys if you'll play with her and lives for belly rubs. She knows basic commands but can also be a little headstrong. She LOVES her walks or even just time meandering around the backyard. As the weight is falling off, she’s also starting zooms around the house and lots of play time. She’s definitely feeling herself! She is 99% house trained but has had a few accidents from stress. She wants to know where you are in the house and if she can't find you, she may stress pee. This has been mitigated by talking to her from wherever I am. She is also crate trained. She does well with most other dogs so far. She’s generally fine with them until they gruff at her. She’s a bit alpha in her play so would recommend pairing her with a more submissive dog. I’m excited to get to know her more and for you to join us on this journey. We'll be highlighting her weight loss journey along the way, which will be great for us both! Bebe's stats: Weight: 57lb (as of 4/8), working her way down to 40 Age: 9-10 years Good with kids: Yes Good with other dogs: Some Good with cats: Unknown Fenced yard required: No OK for townhouse or apartment: Yes House trained: Mostly Crate trained: Yes Barks when left alone: I’ll bark when you leave, but then I’ll settle down. Chews inappropriate items: No Training: Knows sit and come. Needs more work but waiting to lose weight before training. Highly treat motivated. Activity Level: Low Needs experienced adopter: Not necessarily. Should be willing to learn about her medications. Has special needs: Bebe has Cushings disease so will need medication to control. If you are interested in Bebe, consider letting us know by filling out a (no-obligation) adoption application. Please consult our Adoption FAQ before contacting us. Please check the adoption-show-attendees page (http://www.pgspca.org/adopt/adoption-show-attendees/) to see if Bebe will be attending the next adoption show. NOTE: We are an all volunteer group and do not operate a shelter. All of our animals are in foster homes. We are unable to place our animals outside of the Baltimore/DC area.

Story
Meet Stubbz, a charismatic 1.5-year-old Basset Hound Lab mix with a zest for life. He is crate trained and house trained. This spirited pup is a perfect fusion of energy and sweetness, ready to charm his way into your heart and home!  Stubbz is a ball of enthusiasm, always up for an outdoor adventure. Whether it's exploring new trails or playing with his beloved toys, he's the ideal companion for an active lifestyle. However, his energy translates to some excitement during play and leash walks. Stubbz and his foster Mom are currently working on perfecting his leash manners, and with a little guidance, he's sure to become a great walking partner. As much as he loves to express his delight, Stubbz can get a bit mouthy which is his way of sharing the exuberance bubbling inside him. With patient training and positive reinforcement to include yummy treats, Stubbz will learn to channel his excitement into more gentle interactions. Despite his minor quirks, Stubbz is an absolute sweetheart. His strong yet gentle demeanor makes him a delightful cuddle buddy, especially after a fun filled day. Though he enjoys resting near his foster Mom, Stubbz will normally walk unescorted into his open crate, fluff his blankets and go to sleep.   If you're looking for a companion who's not only eager for adventure but also on a journey of self-improvement, Stubbz is the perfect match. Help him refine his leash skills, and you'll have a charming and loyal friend for life.  His captivating smile and expressive eyes will surely brighten even the gloomiest of days.  Are you ready to embark on a journey of training and companionship? Stubbz is waiting to bring his unique blend of energy and sweetness into your home. PAW places animals in the Washington DC/Baltimore Metropolitan areas only. ##1786501##

Story
Stu is a very sweet, happy, energetic yellow lab mix. He was given up by his owners who could no longer care for him. He enjoys making human friends, gets along well with other dogs, and LOVES to play with his foster brother. He is about 48lbs, 7 months old, and loves fetch! With structured play time, training time, and rest in his crate, Stu has been an easy addition to his foster home. Stu is looking for a home, a family to love him, and someone to continue his training so he can thrive as your loyal companion. How can you say no to those ears? ##2098691##

Story
Omari is excited to see you at his kennel. Are you there to leash him up and take him outside?! He is likely housetrained as he is in a rush to get outside and go potty. We can`t blame him for that! Once he relieves himself, he settles into a nice pace. He knows sit and paw, and maybe more! He really enjoys people and getting attention. Omari has legs for days and would love to be your walking companion. When he walks his ears happily flap up and down.Omari A547135 Omari`s picture-perfect smile and stunning good looks will melt your heart at the end of each day as he waits by the door to welcome you home. He is easy to leash up and a pleasure to walk. As we passed a few dogs in their kennels, he offered a friendly sniff to say hello to each. His behavior has yet to be explored while meeting dogs outside.Omari quickly went potty outside several times, indicating he may have had some housetraining. He happily showed his knowledge of “sit,” “paw,” and “down.” Omari would love to be your companion outdoors and inside on the couch watching your favorite series and munching on snacks, especially the snacks part! Although we did not have enough time together to play in the play yard, something tells me Omari has a silly, playful side that he would love to share with you.Come meet Omari and adopt a best friend!Prince George’s County Animal Shelter3750 Brown Station RdUpper Marlboro, Maryland301.780.7200Tues-Fri , 10am-6pm Saturday, 10am-4pmArrive 30 minutes before closingOmari is a handsome yellow lab mix. Story
Aurora (A549863)This PG-adoptable sweetheart loves to love! She has beautiful white `socks` and a white-tipped tail. She is very distinguished. She displayed a calm demeanor and wasn`t vocal in her kennel. She was easy to leash up and then we headed outside, which she enjoyed. While walking past other barking dogs, she had no cares. Later on, another dog went up to her kennel and was a bit too forward, but sweet Aurora didn`t mind. She walked pretty well on a leash and went potty right away, indicating she may be housebroken. She had a lot of energy that day but she may have had some anxiety just coming to the shelter last week. She did jump up a few times, so she can benefit from simple training, like all doggos. She does like to stay close to you as she is walking. Aurora did not appreciate the loud truck she heard on our peaceful walk. Miss Aurora is ready for her new home, where she can smile and be happy. Come check her out!

Story
Susan (A549862)Susan looks like her friend Aurora. She also has beautiful white `socks` and a white-tipped tail, although less white in her tail. She is a notable lady. And, her behavior is similar to her friend`s: She displayed more calmness as our walk progressed. She was easy to leash up and then we headed outside. She walked pretty well on a leash and went potty right away, indicating she may be housebroken. While walking past other barking dogs, she had no cares. Maybe they met on the outside, but we are glad she is safe now inside. She enjoys getting treats and takes them gently. And she appreciates getting affection and pets. Susan, like all dogs, will benefit from some basic training. Susan will make an excellent family dog with a bit of kindness. Come adopt her today!
