Story
Hey… they call me Big Papas 😎🐾 I’m a 35 pound black Lab mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Don’t let the “Big” fool you though, I’m actually a compact little nugget. The name just fits my energy. I didn’t have the easiest start. I came into the shelter really hurt. I had a deep gash under my front leg, my back leg wasn’t working right, I’d been shot with a BB gun, and I even have a mark on my side that looks like someone branded me. After just three days, I was placed on the euthanasia list because of how rough my condition was. On paper, I guess I didn’t look like a good bet. But you would never know any of that if you met me. I am the happiest boy in the whole world. I bounce. I wiggle. I try to play with every dog I see 🐕 I love my dog friends and just want to be part of whatever fun is happening. Even with two sore legs, I still show up with joy every single day. I’m also a huge people guy. I love being by your side. I’ll lay in a cozy dog bed in the living room and just watch you, making sure everything’s good. The second you stand up, I pop up too like, “Oh hey! What are we doing? Can I come? Also… can I have some pets?” 🥹 Sometimes I’ll even gently place my one good front paw in your hand so you can hold it. I just like to stay connected. I walk nicely on a leash, I love a good bone or toy, ride well in a car, and am honestly a simple dude. Give me love, a comfy bed, and some friends and I’m the happiest 35 pounds you’ve ever seen. I’m going to be completely fixed up and feeling so much better before I’m ready for adoption. My body needs some healing, but my heart is already solid gold ❤️ Everyone says I'm an angel boy… but really I’m just a squishy, sweet, resilient guy who’s ready for a soft, safe forever home. Love, Big Papas 🐾✨

Story
Meet Leo!! Leo is a 1 yr old Lab mix weighing 51 lbs. He is crate trained and has learned "sit" and "stay". He is very smart. Leo was originally found in a rural area by the side of the road and then found himself in a shelter that did not have the resources to work with him, so Love-A-Stray took him in. Leo is a very laid-back, shy guy. He really enjoys the company of other dogs. Dogs help him with his confidence but our friends at MBR have been able to get Leo to be a little more independent. He will go for walks without another dog and hang out without another dog. His best scenario is a confident dog friend. Leo loves to PLAY! Leo is very sensitive, and doesn't like raised voices, so a home that is low-key and not loud would be best for him. He is not a full fan of the car just yet, but he is making progress! He was terrified of the car and wouldn't even walk near one, and recently he jumped in on his own! Leo is a GREAT walker around the neighborhood, and gets along with all people, although he hasn't had much exposure to little kids, so we think no toddlers in the house for Leo as they tend to be a bit louder and unpredictable. He has gotten along well with all dogs he has met and is a bit on the submissive side. Sadly, he will let other dogs just push him around, so he needs to be with a dog that won't pick on him. ;-) If you are interested in Leo, please submit an online application so we can learn a little about you to make sure Leo would be a good match for you and your family. We do not do out of state adoptions, due to our trial adoption process. Adoption fee/donation is $200.00 If you have specific questions, please email the adoption coordinator at info@loveastraydog.com. If you can't foster or adopt, please consider donating to help us with medical expenses and ongoing care. You can mail your donation to: Love-A-Stray, P.O. Box 125, Attn: Leo, Avon Lake, OH 44012 or visit www.loveastraydog.com for credit card/PayPal information, adoption application, available dogs and upcoming events. Thank you!

Story
Dobby found himself homeless as a puppy and he had to be trapped with a humane trap since he did no really trust people. Can you blame him? He got tossed out probably for being a normal puppy. Anyway, Dobby has since recovered nicely, is a very sweet boy and he now loves people. He does need to be obedience trained, so a first time dog owner is not recommended. He is under 2 years old and really deserves to be in a home. A shelter is not a place for Dobby. Please consider adding Dobby to your home.
