HISTORY: One owner who did not provide basic medical care so Izzy lived many year with out of control skin issues, ear infections, UTI’s, etc. PERSONALITY: Izzy is a sweet, friendly girl that loves meeting new people and welcoming them into the house. She loves attention and affection and will lean in hard for pets and ear scratches. She tends to spend her days snoozing away but when she gets the zoomies she takes them seriously and this girl can move despite her age.  She lives peacefully with a 60lb male mixed breed but is reactive when seeing dogs out on a walk. Izzy is a bit fearful of fireworks and thunderstorms and will sometimes get spooked by loud noises. Izzy likes things to happen on her own personal timeline and can be stubborn when they don’t. She will test limits by whining and carrying on (dancing around, stomping her feet, wagging her tail furiously while staring at you) to try to get her way. She’s learning that those things don’t work in our house but it’s hard not to laugh at her antics. She’ll do it to the other dog in the house too when he’s laying in a bed that she wants. She usually gets her way with the dog.  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Napping, soaking up love and attention, laying in the sun MEDICAL ISSUES: With vet care and a quality diet Izzy’s skin issues and ear infections have cleared up and she is no longer a big itchy mess. She did have a mammary tumor removed while being spayed. She is not currently on any medications. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Izzy enjoys hanging out with her people, so a family that spends a lot of time around the house/yard/garden would be great for her. The great outdoors is where I truly shine—I absolutely love going for walks and can never get enough of them! Leash walking? Piece of cake! I’m always ready for an adventure. Hiking is one of my absolute favorite things to do. Whether it’s a winding trail through the woods or a peaceful park, I’m in my element. There’s just something magical about exploring nature—splashing my paws in streams, sniffing out all the new scents, and, of course, rolling in the grass (I just have to!). I’m also a fantastic travel buddy. Car rides? No problem! I’m happy to either gaze out the window, watching the world go by, or just settle in with a tasty treat. And speaking of treats… let’s talk food. I. Am. FOOD. DRIVEN. Seriously, if you’ve got snacks, you have my full attention. Training? Yep, I’ve had training sessions, and with the right motivation (ahem, treats), I’m eager to learn and show off my skills. But let’s be real—I like to think I’m the one in charge, so I need a patient and consistent owner who knows my breed and can keep me on the right track. I’ve been in the shelter for two whole years, just waiting for my perfect match. I may come off as a bit sensitive, so I’d thrive in a quiet home where I can feel safe and comfortable. But once I warm up to you? Oh boy, get ready for endless love, constant demands for attention, and yes—plenty of slobbery kisses! If you can handle that, I promise I’ll be your best girl. I’d do best as the only dog in the home, soaking up all the love and attention (because let’s face it, I deserve it!). A household without kids would also be ideal, given my size and my big, excitable heart. But don’t let my size fool you—I’m a total teddy bear and a great house guest. And yes, that is me, the beautiful Onyx with a strong heart and a willingness to protect our life together. Apparently, Onyx also symbolizes the absorption of negativity and if you have seen my super wiggles, then you will believe that I can do this. I am a whole-body expert wiggler and when you come home and see me wiggle, it will make your day (and your coming home will make my day). I will bury into your hand or body just hoping that you`ll give me lots of pets and cuddles. I am curious, friendly and a true delight to be around and so it is good that I am a big boy so there is just more delight of me. I have been enjoying my walks here and am looking to acquire basic doggie manners. I hear there are yummy treats involved -- and food is one of my favorite things in the world! I came out of my shell very quickly and showed myself to be very friendly and sweet. I`m clearly people-oriented and eager to connect. I lived up to my reputation for good leash manners and really enjoyed a lick mat with peanut butter. Here are a few other things they said about me:- he is a very gentle giant, he absolutely loves to cuddle and shows a lot of affection. - he loves saying `hi` to other dogs and loves to play; he gets along great with our resident dog. - he loves to relax and take naps but is always ready for a nice walk; he is great on a leash! - he likes to lay by my side in his bed napping while I work. I know some of the basic things, like sit, and am a good leash-walker, so we should be off to a good start when you take me home. Otherwise, I am a laid-back, easygoing pup who is always happy to be around my people. In sum, I am perfect -- and so ready to make your life perfect, too!
