Please contact Maddy Karon (maddyk@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet boy ISO fresh start and love! MEATBALL NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Meatball       Best Guess for Breed:  Mastiff mix  Best Guess for Age:  4 years as of July 2024     Gender:  Male Approximate Weight:  74 lbs  Gets Along With: Other dogs! He is currently in foster with kids. We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested Currently Living At: DC area foster home. Special Adoption Considerations: Meatball is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Meatball is Looking For:   First, let us tell you about Meatball's previous chapter. His owner passed away. The family came into town, cleared out the house, put Meatball outside, and left. Neighbors eventually noticed he was still there living under the porch, and called us.  Meatball has firmly closed that chapter and is eager for his next one, where he is once again be in a loving home. This big sweetie is looking forward to sniffy walks and exploring the world with his new humans. And just looking at them adoringly, knowing he is safe and under his own roof, knowing where he belongs. he promises loving, loyal companionship for all his days.   Is Meatball the steady presence you can see by your side? Are you the soft landing he deserves? What My Foster Says About Me: Meatball is a wonderful foster-- very affectionate and has a strong desire for companionship, especially with children. He quickly accepted the boundaries of a grumpy resident dog and demonstrated eagerness to please, making him likely easy to train; he shows some basic commands and had minimal accidents in the house. While he is food motivated and enjoys gentle play, he's still a couch potato, happily lounging and engaging with toys rather than getting major zoomies. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.  Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life! Story
Name: Shaq Sex: Male Estimated Age: About a year old Best Guess for Breed: Mixed Breed Mastiff Dog Weight: About 60 lbs Lives With: Dogs and adults (including kids). Housebroken? Shaq is housebroken. He is currently working on crate training (making great progress!) and learning his basic commands. Story: Shaq was rescued from a shelter locally in Washington, DC. Shaq is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. He knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with his humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Shaq is just looking for someone to be his new best furend and we know that he will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. As a puppy, Shaq will need an adopter who is committed to setting him up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising him both mentally and physically. He will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Shaq is really just the best, and we absolutely adore him. He is 100% the most cuddly dog we have fostered and is an absolute ham. He’s great with other dogs and all humans. He’s fully potty trained and only goes to the bathroom outside. He’s good on the leash, but can be a little mouthy when he plays (like a typical puppy) - we are working with him to correct this behavior and he’s responding really well to training. He has lived with kids and other dogs and does great. He’s a great, happy boy and will make a fabulous family dog or companion! The fee to adopt Shaq is $450. That covers the cost of all his vaccines, the collar he’s wearing, his transport to DC and his care in his foster home. He’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines and neutered. Shaq has been seen by a shelter vet and we are not aware of any health issues. If you think that Shaq might be your perfect match, apply today!October 10, 2024, 12:30 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. She's about 4 years old and this big, beautiful Boerboel arrived in July, 2023 after having a couple of unfit homes. Spice needed some time to put all of that behind her, and she needed help in learning how to trust again. She's a resilient girl though, and she does her best not to let things get her down. Unfortunately, it does get her down, being here for so long. When Spice comes out of the kennel with friends, she's a big, bubbly goofball! She bonds intently with her friends and, as mastiffs are, she's protective of those she's bonded with. It takes her a minute or two to get to know and trust you but once she does, she just about knocks you over with leaning against you to get all of your attention. Spice is well-behaved and has learned lots! She knows sit, stay, down, paw, and so much more. She's good on a leash and loves toys too! Spice has had lousy experiences with pets in the past so it's best if she goes to a home where she can be an only pet. That just means she'll love YOU all the more though. She hopes so much that you'll just give her a chance already. She'll love you forever if you do. Call 609-693-1900 or email: office@ahsppz.org for an application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Izzabella aka Izzy. HISTORY: One owner who did not provide basic medical care so Izzy lived many year with out of control skin issues, ear infections, UTI’s, etc. PERSONALITY: Izzy is a sweet, friendly girl that loves meeting new people and welcoming them into the house. She loves attention and affection and will lean in hard for pets and ear scratches. She tends to spend her days snoozing away but when she gets the zoomies she takes them seriously and this girl can move despite her age.  She lives peacefully with a 60lb male mixed breed but is reactive when seeing dogs out on a walk. Izzy is a bit fearful of fireworks and thunderstorms and will sometimes get spooked by loud noises. Izzy likes things to happen on her own personal timeline and can be stubborn when they don’t. She will test limits by whining and carrying on (dancing around, stomping her feet, wagging her tail furiously while staring at you) to try to get her way. She’s learning that those things don’t work in our house but it’s hard not to laugh at her antics. She’ll do it to the other dog in the house too when he’s laying in a bed that she wants. She usually gets her way with the dog.  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Napping, soaking up love and attention, laying in the sun MEDICAL ISSUES: With vet care and a quality diet Izzy’s skin issues and ear infections have cleared up and she is no longer a big itchy mess. She did have a mammary tumor removed while being spayed. She is not currently on any medications. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Izzy enjoys hanging out with her people, so a family that spends a lot of time around the house/yard/garden would be great for her. Once integrated with another dog she is very polite and respectful but she definitely needs slow introductions to new dogs. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Important notes before applying. Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. We will not adopt giant breed dogs to renters. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption.  Proof of any of the following exceptions is required: The intact dog is a working member of a law enforcement, or search and rescue/recovery team. The intact dog is registered under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is actively being shown. A veterinarian has determined the sterilization procedure would harm the intact dog.  We believe in Force Free Training Methods and do not approve of methods or devices using pain or force to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior.  Homes with highly varnished steps must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. **We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit.
