Story
https://foha.org/pet/queen2023/ All hail me, your Queen! Hey there! My name is Queen, and I am a big, beautiful pup with a larger-than-life personality and a royal charm. The great outdoors is where I truly shine—I absolutely love going for walks and can never get enough of them! Leash walking? Piece of cake! I’m always ready for an adventure. Hiking is one of my absolute favorite things to do. Whether it’s a winding trail through the woods or a peaceful park, I’m in my element. There’s just something magical about exploring nature—splashing my paws in streams, sniffing out all the new scents, and, of course, rolling in the grass (I just have to!). I’m also a fantastic travel buddy. Car rides? No problem! I’m happy to either gaze out the window, watching the world go by, or just settle in with a tasty treat. And speaking of treats… let’s talk food. I. Am. FOOD. DRIVEN. Seriously, if you’ve got snacks, you have my full attention. Training? Yep, I’ve had training sessions, and with the right motivation (ahem, treats), I’m eager to learn and show off my skills. But let’s be real—I like to think I’m the one in charge, so I need a patient and consistent owner who knows my breed and can keep me on the right track. I’ve been in the shelter for two whole years, just waiting for my perfect match. I may come off as a bit sensitive, so I’d thrive in a quiet home where I can feel safe and comfortable. But once I warm up to you? Oh boy, get ready for endless love, constant demands for attention, and yes—plenty of slobbery kisses! If you can handle that, I promise I’ll be your best girl. I’d do best as the only dog in the home, soaking up all the love and attention (because let’s face it, I deserve it!). A household without kids would also be ideal, given my size and my big, excitable heart. But don’t let my size fool you—I’m a total teddy bear and a great house guest. I love hanging out with my favorite people, cuddling up, and just being part of the family. If you’re looking for a majestic, affectionate, food-loving, adventure-ready companion, I’m your girl! Let’s take on the world, one walk (or treat) at a time. If you’d like to meet me, fill out an application (no obligation), and let’s make it happen. Hope to see you soon!

Important Facts About AmayaDogs: We would encourage you to bring your dog for a dog-meet! Our staff are happy to assist.Cats: UnknownKids: UnknownHouse-trained: UnknownAmaya is a tender-hearted wallflower with a quiet soul and so much love to give - once you’ve earned her trust. This sensitive girl is still learning that the world isn’t as scary as it seems, and she’s making slow but steady progress every day.Amaya thrives in calm, predictable environments and blossoms with people who let her take things at her own pace. Once she begins to feel safe, you’ll notice her gentle curiosity: a soft nudge of your hand, a tail wag when she sees a familiar face, or a brave step forward during a treat game. Her favorite activities so far? Investigating puzzle toys, enjoying long-lasting chews, and engaging in peaceful `freework` where she gets to explore and build confidence without pressure. While she’s still nervous on walks and shy with handling, Amaya has shown signs of growth - allowing consent-based leash interactions, walking to new spaces with support, and even choosing to approach for gentle affection. She`s not quite ready for the hustle and bustle of the big world yet, but she’s ready for someone kind, patient, and understanding to help her bloom.Amaya would do best in a quieter home (ideally with a yard or easy outdoor access) and may benefit from living with a calm, confident dog friend after a proper meet. She’s not the dog who will leap into your arms on day one - but give her time and space, and she just might sneak her way into your heart forever. If you are interested in adopting Amaya, please email adoptions@awla.org.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Otis is a 2 1⁄2 year old, who is still learning to be a dog. He is very loving with his humans and likes to play and romp with the other dogs. HISTORY: Otis was given up by the family that had him since a puppy due to anxiety issues. In his short time with us he has overcome much of the anxiety although we do keep him on 2mg of Xanax daily (down from 4mg). Otis wants to protect his people so he has “bum-rushed” visitors at times which can seem scary but no bites of any kind have been encountered. It was these behaviors that caused his family to give him up. That said he was also kept in a crate 10 hours per day. PERSONALITY: Sweet, lovable, and definitely a good boy who loves his people. Otis loves attention and is learning to be “gentle” when taking snacks. He has come far in the short time he has been with his foster family. Learning to not listen and behave well with the other dogs when snacks are being handed out. Otis loves the big backyard where he can hang out with his fur buddies and romp and play. Otis does not want to be in a crate whatsoever and is good when left alone in the house. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Otis likes to play and mouth box with the other big dogs and does well with the small dogs as well. MEDICAL ISSUES: None known WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Otis needs a home that can continue to show him love and patience and provide ongoing routine and training. He has a beautiful soul and likes Popeye Candy sticks whenever he can get his foster Mom to give him one or two. A large carrot in the morning is a great snack and he eats veggies and fruit with dinner or for a snack each day. Otis will need a home where he is not crated and can have people home with him most of the day. I do not recommend small children as he is still learning and needs guidance. He is fine with our grandsons but I would not put that pressure on him on a daily basis. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Konik earns his name any time he meets a human; he is a licker. He is also a cuddler and a lap dog. He loves all humans and is great with dogs of all sizes. He is being fostered on a farm with four other dogs ranging from 20 to 130 pounds and does fine with them all. His best friend is a Great Dane who he loves to play chase and keep away with. They will play outside then curl up on the couch together for a good, long nap. HISTORY: Konik was found as a stray by three teenagers. Each boy took him home but was told no by the parents. Thankfully the third boy’s grandma took Konik to the local dog shelter who reached out to find a rescue for him. PERSONALITY: Konik has the sweetest personality. Just an absolute cuddle bug. He is young, playful, well-behaved and eager to please. He does not have a prey drive and doesn’t show any aggression. He has met outside cats and is curious; he will chase but in play not to harm. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Konik loves toys, especially chew toys. He’ll play keep away and tug of war, but he also plays quietly by himself. He loves to romp and play outside with his Great Dane friend then nap for a few hours on a couch. He also loves to be around people. Going to the kitchen? He’ll tag along. Going to the bathroom? Well obviously, you need company. MEDICAL ISSUES: None. He’s been neutered is UTD on vaccines, is heart worm negative and on preventative WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Konik just wants to be loved. He’s great with other dogs but is just as happy hanging with the humans and he’s great with kids. He just lights up around children. Konik is young, athletic and needs to know where his family is. He can clear a baby gate or a 5’ fence so needs to be on a leash or watched while he’s learning his new surroundings. He is a smart dog and learns quickly. Once taught he will respect gates and boundaries. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs.
