Story

Bodie is a sweet, energetic pug with a big personality. He gets so excited when he gets attention that he can't help but tell you all about it. He's playful, curious, loves being around other dogs, and is already starting to discover just how nice it is to have people looking out for him. We estimate Bodie is 4-6 years old. He came to us from Oakland Animal Services after being found as a stray, and while we don't know much about his past, we suspect he hasn't had much positive human interaction. Some of his teeth are unusually short, which our vet believes may be from chewing on a cage or enclosure. He's also a little jumpy, fearful at the vet, and wary of hands near his face. Bodie is still figuring out some of the basics of being a loved dog. He's unsure about toys, jumping onto furniture, or climbing into a lap. Right now, he wants to be near his people, but he's most comfortable sleeping beside them rather than being touched. At our recent Oakland pug meetup, he did wonderfully mingling with dozens of pugs, and we loved seeing how much confidence he gained simply from being around friendly people and dogs. While he was fine around children at the park, we think a home without kids would be the best fit for him. It's hard to know what Bodie experienced before rescue, but some of his behaviors suggest that life may not have always been kind to him. He can be anxious about what's happening around him, and all of this sudden attention, affection, new people, and new experiences are a lot to process. We think there's a very sweet, loving dog underneath that uncertainty, and he just needs time to realize that this good life isn't going anywhere. Bodie is looking for someone who will meet him where he is and give him the patience and stability to build trust at his own pace. He's high energy and would likely love having another confident, friendly dog in the home to show him the ropes. We'd especially love a home where his people are around most of the time or can bring him along for adventures. He deserves the chance to finally learn what it feels like to be safe, wanted, and cared for. Bodie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and fostered in Sacramento, CA.

Story

Kiki is a busy little girl who wants to be involved in everything, especially whatever is happening in the kitchen. She loves stuffy toys, sniffing around, and keeping tabs on her people. She also loves kids and has been friendly with pretty much everyone she has met so far. Kiki is a great little sleeper and settles nicely into her kennel at night. She has also done well staying kenneled when her foster family leaves to run errands. She is still working on her potty training and seems to be more accustomed to using potty pads indoors, so her foster family is helping her learn that outside is the place to go. She has some typical female pug energy and is still learning to get along with her foster sister, but she gets along well with her foster brother. At around 2 to 3 years old, Kiki is a fun, affectionate girl who is continuing to learn and settle into her new life. She's also great with cats. Kiki came to us as an owner surrender and is being fostered in Woodland, CA. She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.

If you're looking for a loyal sidekick who wants to be involved in every part of your day, Gerald is your guy. This happy, affectionate pug loves being with his people and will happily follow you from room to room just to see what you're up to. Lovingly called Jerry, this happy guy came to us from a CA Central Valley shelter. We estimate him to be around 3 years old, and he is playful, social, and always ready for an adventure. He enjoys walks, loves attention, and is quick to offer cuddles when it's time to relax. He's eager to please and has a wonderful, goofy personality that makes people fall for him fast. Like many rescue dogs, Jerry is still working on a few things. He's learning leash manners and gets more confident on walks every day. He's also making progress with potty training as he settles into a routine. He has a small undeveloped eye that does not hurt or need to be removed. Jerry would do best in a home where he can be the star of the show and soak up plenty of love and attention. He hasn't been tested with children yet, but everyone he's met so far has been greeted with enthusiasm, curiosity, and lots of affection. He's friendly with cats, but like most dogs will want to chase them if they run. He recently got neutered, a dental cleaning, a microchip, and full vaccinations. This adorable Pug/Jack Russell Terrier mix is as sweet as they come. Sammie came to us from a backyard breeding situation and is now getting the happy puppyhood she deserves. She can be a little shy and timid at first, but once she feels comfortable, her playful side comes out. She loves wrestling with her foster siblings, is a great eater, and absolutely melts into your arms when she's ready for some cuddles. Meet Miss Piggy! Playful, sweet, energetic, and full of personality, Miss Piggy is a happy albino pug puppy looking for her forever home. We estimate she's about 13 weeks old. Piggy has plenty of puppy energy and is learning when it's time to settle down. She's crate trained, sleeps through the night, loves cuddling with her foster siblings, gives her foster mom plenty of kisses, and enjoys toys, chasing the ball, and a good nap. And yes, she gets some serious zoomies, too! We expect a lot of interest in this unique little pug, but we want to be very transparent: we're only considering homes that meet specific requirements for Piggy's care. Applications that don't meet these criteria will not be addressed at this time. Albinism is a genetic condition involving a complete absence of melanin, which makes Piggy especially vulnerable to sunburn, skin lesions, skin cancer, and light sensitivity that may contribute to future eye issues. Albino pugs can also be prone to allergies and, particularly when poorly bred for color, other hereditary health problems. Our vet has confirmed she has BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) and may require soft palate surgery when she grows up. Her adopters need to be prepared for a potentially high-maintenance and expensive pug. Piggy will need limited sun exposure and ongoing protection, including pet-safe sunscreen, protective shirts, hats, and potentially sunglasses if she tolerates them. Her skin will need to be closely monitored for new moles or lesions, which may require removal and testing. She'll also need another dog in the home to keep her company, as she thrives with canine companionship. Piggy is not the dog for outdoor adventures in direct sun. Bike rides, pool days, and extended time outside sunbathing won't be part of her lifestyle. She'll be ready to go home October 14, after her microchip and second round of vaccines. Her adopters will be required to complete her puppy vaccine series 3-4 weeks after adoption and sign a spay contract.

Lovingly named for his one-eyed status, Solo is a handsome middle-aged pug who came to us from the shelter as a stray. Solo is a sweet, easygoing guy who enjoys being near his people and hanging out with his foster pug siblings. He's not especially snuggly, but he likes having his people around and is always happy to entertain himself with his favorite rope toys and stuffies. He's also very food motivated, which should make training a fun and rewarding experience. He's doing great with potty training, is comfortable in his kennel, and is doing well overall in his foster home. He enjoys affection and is getting sweeter and sweeter every day. Solo is looking for a home where he can settle in, enjoy his toys, be close to his people, and continue learning at his own pace. His eye is pretty blind, and our vet thinks he can see shadows. If you're looking for a low-key pug companion who enjoys the simple things in life, Solo may be the one for you. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and just got a dental cleaning.
