Story
Meet Hank, the rottweiler mix puppy. Hank is a spitfire puppy looking for a dog-savvy adopter to help him grow into the best adult he can be. Hank has been observed to be very mouthy since in the care of the Shelter. This means that while playing, he will sometimes put his teeth on people. Although this is a fairly normal behavior for puppies, Hank likely didn’t get the socialization needed at a young age to curb this behavior through play with other dogs his age and/or from his momma dog. Staff have been socializing Hank with older dogs to help him learn more appropriate interactions and play styles, as well as enrich his time here at the Shelter. A home with another adult, playful dog will likely be the best fit for Hank moving forward as it will help Hank to grow into a good canine citizen and learn that puppy teeth are not for chomping on humans. A child-free home is required at this time due to Hank’s behavior. Hank will be a fun, confident puppy to grow up with but needs the right person with patience and a sense of humor to get through this puppy mouthing phase. Could you (and your dog) be Hank’s new family? The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them

Story
He is a total love and is ready for a best friend. Some things we've learned about him: -if you think you don't like gophers- he dislikes them more! -he would like to be the little spoon in bed -sitting weirdly like a human in a chair is his super power -he lives for a tennis ball, squeaking ones preferred -is learning to kennel with stinky snacks -loves to lay in sunshine -really loves ladies but is cool with dudes too -really likes scrambled eggs -seems cool with kiddos but is very big and probably not a great fit with the littles (he's just big, not grumpy) -would thrive with a fenced yard maybe not cats, unknown -comes across as a big dork -was cool with other dogs at the shelter, is not reactive when he sees doggo friends, no aggression or guarding
