Story
Cowboy is a handsome rottweiler/shepherd mix that has the most beautiful honey-colored eyes. When Cowboy looks at you, he looks right into your soul. While his eyes are beautiful, they are still sad, as they know, he has nobody wanting him. This boy is 2 years old and weighs 54 lbs. Cowboy has been at the sanctuary since he was a tiny puppy, along with his siblings. About 22 months ago, back around June of 2024, a rescue asked for them to take him and 3 siblings into care at just 8 weeks old with commitment to help financially and take them on the next transport. The rescue delayed, delayed and delayed. They didn't give a dime to their care before ultimately ghosting them completely once they were 5 months old. THEN, another rescue stepped in and tagged them. They ended up ALSO completely ghosting 6 weeks later. The sanctuary, based in South Texas along the Texas/Mexico border, had little options back then. They begged for help, and nobody stepped in to help. Unfortunately, it led to Cowboy and his siblings growing up without ever knowing what their forever is. Cowboy could have had his forever home 2 years ago, instead, 2 rescues took that away from them. This is where we have stepped into help. We want to help Cowboy find his forever home he so deserves. Cowboy loves to hang out in the AC and next to people. He is quiet, chill and so relaxed. When he is outside, he loves to sit in the pools and cool down. He does not want craziness and does not need lots of energy, just needs proper exercise and lots of love. Cowboy loves other dogs but would not mind at all being an only dog. He is currently in the sanctuary with other dogs. His favorite treats are hot dogs; he can never get enough of them. Cowboy likes to sit back and watch the chaos of other dogs rather than joining in. He just wants to sunbathe, relax and love life! Cowboy requests strong toys, as anything less will be nothing more than fluff when he is done with it. But man, he LOVES his toys! Cowboy knows how to walk on a leash and gets very excited when going for a walk. He will grab the leash with his mouth and try to walk himself. He LOVES adventures. The sanctuary has pigs, and we know for sure he gets along with them! Cowboy is smart, loyal, and has the best smile. He does not need a lot, but does need someone with patience, love, and a kind heart. Cowboy wants his best friend, and we hope his best friend is out there for him. Cowboy is fixed (spayed/neutered), heart worm positive (they have received the 30-day course of antibiotics and need to stay on heart worm prevention for 12-16 months and be retested then), current on age-appropriate vaccinations, current on flea/tick and heart worm prevention, microchipped, current on de-wormer, and will receive a clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian prior to transport. Story
Some puppies arrive with a whole lot of potential and a whole lot of work ahead of them. Iggie somehow seems to have gotten a head start on both the growing up and the good stuff. At only about four months old, she already knows how to settle into home life, sleep quietly through the night, ride along in the car, walk on a leash and sit at your feet looking up at you with love and attentiveness. She's still wonderfully puppy, ball-chasing, toy-loving, pool-splashing and playful, but there is a calmness underneath it all that makes Iggie feel like a particularly easy dog to fall for. Go watch Iggie on YouTube to see all her magic in motion. https://youtu.be/W8pKBsyuzTg Iggie is being raised in a foster home, and her foster has clearly been doing right by this girl. She lives with another dog and cats, has children who regularly come over to visit and has been given the kind of early socialization that can make such a difference for a young puppy. She has learned that home is a place to relax, people are worth listening to and everyday life is fun! Her foster shared that Iggie is already house and crate trained and sleeps quietly in her crate overnight. She's great in the car, has her basic leash skills down and already knows sit. Hand her a treat and she takes it gently. Ask for her attention and those little brown eyebrows turn your direction. For such a young dog, she has a surprisingly thoughtful way of interacting with people. She's affectionate and connected without needing to be all over you every second, and that lovely balance is a big part of what makes her so easy to enjoy. But please don't mistake “calm and attentive” for boring. Iggie has plenty of puppy tucked inside that beautiful black coat. She loves toys and especially loves a ball, whether she's fetching it or inventing her own game. She also enjoys what her foster lovingly refers to as “swimming.” In Iggie's case, that currently means happily getting into the pool and enjoying herself while actual swimming technique remains a work in progress. We respect the confidence. And yes, she really is that pretty. Iggie has a thick black coat with warm brown paws, markings and two perfect little brown eyebrows that give her face so much expression. We believe she is likely a hound mix, possibly with some Doberman or Rottweiler in the family tree, but rescue rules apply and breed is always our best guess. Whatever is in there, we suspect she's going to grow into one gorgeously striking dog. The best part about Iggie is how easy it is to imagine the life ahead of her. Weekend walks and car rides. A basket of toys she slowly distributes across your entire house. Fetch in the backyard. Kids coming through the door. Another dog nearby. A quiet night tucked into her crate after a day spent being part of the family. She already has so many of the building blocks people hope for in a puppy, and she has the sweet, steady temperament to keep building on them. Iggie isn't finished growing up, of course. Her future family still gets all the fun, work and ridiculousness of puppyhood. But you'll also get to begin with a girl who has already learned an impressive amount about being somebody's dream dog. And after spending time with her, it's hard not to think she's going to be a very, very good one. If you can already picture Iggie growing up beside you, head to her adoption link and submit an application.
