Rich, velvety, and iconically classic, meet Hersey Kiss, a ten-year-old Rottweiler mix. Arriving at Little Shelter in February, she immediately had a long line of staff and volunteers vying to be her Valentine, winning everyone over with her gentle demeanor and adventurous spirit. Always available for a walk and good conversation, she’s often seen out and about with her favorite people, soaking up all the well-deserved attention. While undergoing her routine medical evaluation, there were, however, some concerns, which unfortunately resulted in a cancer diagnosis. With an estimated prognosis of a year or so, our hope is to see Hersey spend her remaining time in a real home, surrounded by love and family as she determinedly lives life to the fullest. Continually optimistic and happy, she always chooses to walk down the sunny side of the street, grateful for every moment. While you provide her with a cozy bed and a seat at your dinner table, we will continue to supply her medical care, as well as offering support and direction for the days ahead. This is rare opportunity to make a genuine difference for the purest soul you’ll ever meet. Hello. My pets name is Kairo. He is a purebred Rottweiler that I’ve had since he was a puppy. AKC certified. He still has his tail. He is about 150lbs. He is house trained, knows basic commands, and very kind. He has been socialized since a pup and has always been around people. I have a 2 yr old who he has been around his entire life without issue. He’s a protector and guardian at heart. He loves to play fetch, run around outside and if he sees a soccer ball or any ball, it’s game time. He is very food motivated. What I’m looking for in a new home is for someone who is experienced with big dogs. Someone who understands how to build a relationship with a dog. Someone who is not afraid of the size and willing to understand him. He is a great companion. Preferably a home with a secure area for him. I can assure you that he is a phenomenal dog with a great heart and no ill intent. I have NEVER seen him ever have ill intentions or even growl.

Emmy is a 6-month-old boxer/lab mix who comes to us from a local animal control where she was an owner surrender by someone whose dog had a litter. She currently weighs 27lbs and has already been with us for 2 months. We have not idea why this pup has not been snatched up already! This little beauty is all puppy love and sweetness. She is curious and likes to meet new people. Emmy will need to learn her basic commands and work on her housetraining, but she is eager to please and up for the challenge! Dog Gone Smart in Norwalk has been kind enough to offer some free training classes for her and her new adopter. She looks forward to going to DGS on Wednesday to swim. Emmy loves to play with other dogs and she can occupy herself with balls and toys as well. Emmy is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccinations.

This very handsome dude is Grover, a 2&1/2 year old sweet and goofy Doberman/Shepherd mix who comes to PAWS from a NJ Humane Society. Grover is a playful, energetic and happy boy who does not show any food or toy resource guarding. He loves to play with his stuffies and can entertain himself for some time! Grover will bark at other dogs when walking by them on leash, but seems ok with them after a proper introduction. Grover needs a strong handler as he can pull on leash and be quite jumpy. He will require additional training to work on his manners. Grover's jumpiness and boisterousness would not make him the best suited for households with children under 15. He would also do best as an only dog so that he can receive the proper attention and training to be the best dog he can be. Grover is microchipped an up to date on his vaccinations and will be adopted out with a voucher for his neuter.
