Story
Nirai (means calm) and her 4 friends were all dumped in the streets of Fremont. They were all neglected dirty and very matted. She is more timid and nervous than the others. Needs more time to decompress and feel safe at her foster home. The shelter had her shaved down since she was severely matted (See my before and after picture!). She is now relaxing at her foster home. More photos and info to come as she learns and feels safe. Update 1/20/26 from her foster home: She was scared for the first two days but now she is a completely different dog. She sleeps very well through the night in her crate is potty trained and already knows how to use the doggie door to go to the backyard for her business. She is good with other dogs though she doesn’t play with them much yet. She is also great with my 5-year-old son. She loves human company more than dogs for now. She plays with my son and my husband sleeps on our laps and loves belly rubs. She also seems fine when we leave her at home for a few hours. I’m feeding her home-cooked food and she loves carrots and treats. See How Happy now in the links below! Watch my video #1Watch my video #2February 9, 2026, 12:36 pm

Story
Mira was one of the 5 neglected and matted dogs that were dumped in Fremont. After vet care and shave down (she had long matted coat) she is now doing great at her foster home. She was nervous at the shelter but at her foster home she warmed up quickly and is now very lovable and playful. Mira loves to jump on the bed and cuddling. Loves attention and being petted. Eating well. She loves playing with toys walks cuddling zooming around and great with foster home's dog. Mira is a sweetie in first foster home with another dog. Another dog at home really helps her feel safe. More info. to come. Mira's REEL: https://www.facebook.com/reel/792339953879642 Update from 2nd foster home for first fh's biz trip:- She's getting more comfortable with us but weary with strangers. - Eating and now loves her food: boiled chicken beef pumpkin rice homemade stew cheese canned food with homemade food.- Not reactive around dogs in fact I think being around dogs may help her we had our neighbor come down with his small dog and they were interactive. Another dog helps her feel more safe.- She loves loves loves tummy rubs but won't cuddle on the couch or sleep in their bed yet. She chooses to sleep on a dog bed on the floor and lay by herself.- Doesn't like to be picked up yet and learning she is safe.- Not use to car rides yet.- She is very picky with her treats so we have had a hard time finding a 'high value' treat to get her to do anything yet. She does seem to respond well to verbal praise.- She's very sweet just nervous and needs time to build trust!February 1, 2026, 12:33 pm

Story
Looks like: Shih Tzu Female, 13 years old (estimated), 14 pounds Adorable Astrid gets along well with other dogs both big and small, always greeting with enthusiasm and a wagging tail. She'd love to land in a warm home with a person who can give her all the cuddles and snuggles she desires. This sweet squishy faced little lady has lived quite the life. We don't know what her days were like prior to joining POMDR, but she has definitely been through a lot. Astrid was found as a stray, a matted mess with numerous medical concerns. She has lost both of her eyes, but is learning to navigate the world like a champ. We can't wait to see Astrid's glow-up and to see her days improve in time. Astrid joined us from the Sacramento County Bradshaw Shelter. They felt that a rescue specializing in seniors would help Astrid find her perfect home.

Story
Looks like: Shih Tzu Male, 12 years old (estimated), 9 pounds Winkle was named after Rip Van Winkle because of how much he slept when he came into our program (22 hrs a day!), and in the hopes that he would one day feel better and "wake up." We are happy to report that after he had all his medical issues addressed at our clinic, he "woke up" and really started to enjoy life. Now he loves taking leisurely walks and toddling around the house and yard. He likes to find his foster parents and nuzzle them for love. He will follow his foster parents around and hang out where the other dogs are. In the evenings, he prefers some lap time before bed. He sleeps well through the night. He will test out all the dog beds in the house! Winkle had severe dental disease when he came to POMDR and had to have all his teeth removed. He enjoys soft food at mealtime and soft treats throughout the day. Winkle has cataracts but he finds his way around the house and yard very well. Winkle had an anal sac tumor removed recently. We are hopeful that he has many more months or years ahead of him. Because of his medical situation, POMDR is offering his adopter a $1500 stipend for medical expenses. Winkle came to POMDR from another rescue group when they discovered that his medical needs were more than they could handle. Senior dogs like Winkle with minor senior-related issues are our specialty so we were happy to bring him into our program.

Story
Looks like: Shih Tzu Female, 10 years old (estimated), 14 pounds Just like the world's most versatile utensil, this little lady truly does it all: she is part sweet spoon (all cuddles and snuggles) and part sassy fork (with opinions about when dinner should be served). Now in her golden years, Spork has perfected the art of napping, people watching, and politely judging other dogs' fashion choices from her cozy bed. Don't let her age fool you -- she's got plenty of pep in her step when it's time for a walk or a snack run! Spork's ideal day includes a leisurely stroll through the yard, a soft blanket in her bed, and a human who will exclaim that she is 'the cutest thing ever' at least five times a day (non-negotiable). She is the kind of pup who will make you laugh about her quirky displays and melt your heart with her irresistible gaze. Spork is great with dogs, cats and kids! If you have been searching for a perfectly-sized, silky-soft, and charming comedian to share your couch and your heart with, Spork is ready to serve up joy with a side of adorable attitude! Extra bonus: she gets along splendidly with other dogs, with cats, and gentle children. While overall in good shape, she will require daily prescription eye-drops and medication for Cushing's disease. Since joining POMDR, she has been receiving all the medical care and TLC she needed and is feeling much better than when she first arrived. Sweet Spork joined us from San Jose Animal Care Center and Services, who thought she would shine best in a senior-focused rescue.
