Roxy currently plays with an older (9yrs) female Shih Tzu 5 days a week when I help care for my daughter’s children. She likes playing fetch and tug-a-war. She is very affectionate. She likes to be held and her tummy rubbed. When I walk her I let her walk ahead of me and explore. I have been training her not to bark at other dogs when on the leash. She finds it difficult especially if the other dog barks first. Roxy is very loving and playful. She likes going for walks. She can pull on the leash. She also does not like being closely approached on the leash by dogs or people. When I have boarded her the caretakers like her. I have to tell her to stay when I go out the front door or she may run out the door. She can whine in the car wanting the window down. She responds to treats for good behavior (not barking at other dogs). She is very protective.

HI - I'M WINKY, and my story is a bit heartbreaking. I was dumped in a trash bin by some callous person, possibly because I have a cloudy eye. Thankfully I was rescued and am now in a foster home, where I share my days with other pups. The vet says it's just a very dry eye, so I'm hoping my eye does not need to be removed. I'm currently on eye medicine to help it improve, since I was definitely neglected. I'm a 5-year-old Shih Tzu mix, possibly part Lhasa Apso given my size (I'm 17 lbs). I'm an adorable little friendly guy who would love to be with a person or people who truly love me, and who won't throw me out in the trash! I'm very much a lap dog and a snuggler. Although he may look like Chewbacca’s smaller cousin or a sentient haystack, Strength is a mutt of many flavors – we think some shih tzu, maybe some yorkie (honestly maybe a little Chewy, who knows?). Strength’s hair is so big because it has to contain all of his charisma, because this little guy is campaigning to be the Mayor of Muttville. He indiscriminately befriends all he encounters, whether they be human or canine, and it’s hard to resist tangling your hands in his gorgeous blonde locks. We suspect that, with a good groom, Strength may look like a completely different dog, but that’s all the better – you can have two dogs for the price of one! And who doesn’t need a little more Strength? Here's some notes from his foster: Strength is a very sweet boy who wants to be near you and loves getting scritches. He’s got a surprising amount of energy! He loves his walks. On some walks he’s eager and out in front for over a mile at a brisk pace, other walks he’d rather just sniff all the things. Most of the day he’s happy to snooze near you in his bed. He’s good with people and dogs. He gets along great with our young kitty. He does ok being left alone - he’ll bark for a few minutes, but then he settles down. Rides fine in car.

Kicking us off for haircare week is a black and white shih tzu mix who looks like he could use a bit of haircare himself - Sideburn! This lovely lad has the most adorable bowlegged stance as he toddles around Muttville looking for other doggos or humans to introduce himself to. Sideburn is the epitome of a senior sweetheart with just the gentlest manners and a most pleasant expression on his furry little face. Sideburn is looking for the perfect furever home filled with treats, cuddles, and lots of love, and he's absolutely optimistic that Muttville is the place to find it. If you have a Sideburn-shaped hole in your heart, won't you come meet him today? Here's some notes from his foster: Sideburn is an awesome dog. He is house trained, quiet, well mannered, and a total gentleman. He gets along with dogs of all sizes and occasionally plays with smaller dogs if he vibes with them. He loves food! And he might even cutely grumble a little at the dinner table in hopes you share a bite with him. He has great manners when being groomed and bathed. He doesn’t mind the blow dryer nor having his paw pads shaved. He is perfectly polite when you wipe his paws after a muddy walk. He isn’t a fan of the rain. He will need help getting up the stairs. Also, he enjoys being on the couch and the bed, but needs his humans to help him get up there. He can get down the stairs but would prefer you help him. He enjoys slow peaceful walks through the park and has had no problem walking several blocks as long as you’re ok with his slower gentlemanly pace. Sideburn would do best in a house where his owners aren’t wanting to take him on long active hikes. He prefers chilling at home and cuddling. And being a gentleman.
