He’s very family-friendly, loves being around people, and gets along great with other dogs. ❤️ Gizmo enjoys going outside to play and explore, but he’s just as happy spending the day relaxing and lounging around with you. He’s the perfect mix of playful and laid-back! Gizmo does have only one eye due to a previous eye issue, but don’t let that fool you—he’s still full of life, love, and personality! It certainly hasn’t stopped him from enjoying himself or being the lovable little guy he’s always been. He’s a sweet senior pup who would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for an affectionate, easygoing dog to love. 🐶❤️

Belle wasn't always Belle. We originally named her Nikki when someone abandoned this tiny 9.5-pound Shih Tzu overnight on our property... in a cat carrier. She was terrified, standing in urine, and so severely matted that it took eight hours, with two people working together, to remove the mats from her legs, belly, face, ears, and back. It was one of the worst cases of neglect we've seen in such a little dog. But they could have done far worse things than dropping her off on our property, so there's that! Once the mats were gone and she had a couple of much-needed spa days, everything changed. She began trusting people, stole all of our hearts, and officially became a Canine CellMates dog when her stray hold ended. Today, Belle is settling into Beyond The Bars beautifully. She may have started out shy, but she's already decided her handler—and a few of the other participants—are pretty wonderful. Watching her confidence grow has been such a joy. Demi came to us at a time when things were relatively calm and I was primarily working from home. There were no sick parents to tend to then and her pawrents had plenty of time to spend with her. She’s now four years old and life has happened. I have two sick parents and have been on a return to work order for more than a year. I hate that she’s home alone so much while we are out working or taking care of ailing parents. Ideally, she would be in a home with a family that has the capacity and time to spend with her. A family that is fiercely overprotective and extremely cautious with her.I should note that I am only willing to adopt locally. No travel to other states.

Meet Munchkin! She is an adorable 1-year-old Shih Tzu! She weighs a little over 8 pounds. Munchkin came to us after being found as a stray and never being reclaimed. Munchkin is a curious, sweet little girl. She warmed up quickly in her foster home, and enjoys all of the adults and teenagers she has met so far. Munchkin is the perfect combination of playful and snuggly. She loves to play fetch, but prefers to break it up into a few shorter sessions each day. In between rounds of fetch, she is happy to follow her person around, or curl up and nap (preferably with a fuzzy blanket). Munchkin could be an only dog, but would also be thrilled to have one or more playful dog siblings in her forever home. Munchkin is fascinated by birds, and likes to spend time outside watching them. She would be a great companion for neighborhood walks. More than anything, this little girl just wants a home where she can be with her people as they move about their day.
