Story
Meet Barley!  Late one night, we saw a post on NextDoor about 2 pitiful looking dogs being given away for free - always a bad idea! We knew we had to help… When we went to pick them up, we realized just how right we had been. Poor Barley was a total hot mess - so so matted with all kinds of stuff stuck in his fur, even plastic tree pieces! Rye, being younger and having a different type of coat, was physically in decent shape but totally terrified - they both were! It took several hours and a trip to our favorite Wills Park Vet for some “happy juice” for us to be able to get Barley shaved down and cleaned up.  Then it was back to their foster home for a few days of decompression before heading back to the vet for Barley’s neuter appointment. Rye is still a bit young to spay, so she wasn’t originally included in that little outing. But when we tried loading up Barley without Rye, they both went into a panic so she ended up going along for moral support!  It’s now been just shy of two weeks since we rescued this dynamic duo and we are so so proud of all of the progress they have made! They are both completely different dogs from the two terrified hot messes we rescued. They’ve learned to play; they absolutely love cuddles with foster mom; and most importantly they no longer feel the need to be physically touching each other 24/7. But they are still very much attached to each other!  We are continuing to work on building their confidence individually, but for the time being at least, we are treating them as a bonded pair who will need to be adopted together. They’re also still quite young - Rye is only 4 months old and Barley just barely a year - so between their age and their delayed start with socialization they will also need to have another confident adult dog in the home to continue teaching them how to “dog”. We do realize this will make finding them a home a bit more challenging, but we aren’t looking for the easy home - we are looking for the perfect home! If you are interested, email adrienne@rescuemega.org or fill out an adoption application on our website- www.rmgdogs.org PLEASE NOTE: The adoption requirements for Barley and Rye are strict. They must be adopted together, with another confident dog in the home. They also need a securely fenced yard ##2834585##

Story
Say Hello to Edith, the Ewok - the cutest, sweetest girl around!    Edith is about 7-8 years and just over 20 lbs. She’s very chill and happy to lay on her favorite bed most of the day…but 2-3 times a day she gets all excited and jumps around and spins in circles. It is the cutest thing you’ve ever seen!    Edith does have a heart murmur so has to have a pill twice a day but if you put with her food, she’ll just eat it right up. She also has a dry eye condition that clouds her vision a bit and requires once a day eye wipe and drops. However she gets around so well and doesn’t let it stop her. Her foster mom had her yard completely dug up for a few months and she navigated it perfectly.     Edith is currently  living with several dogs (big and small) and cats and does well with all. She would do best in a house without super rambunctious dogs but seems to like the company of another dog and definitely loves humans. She’s a one of a kind!   Interested in adopting our adorable little Ewok? Email adrienne@rescuemega.org or fill out an adoption application on our website- www.rmgdogs.org ##2622243##

Story
Meet Eedy!  We rescued Eedy back in May 2025 from a metro area shelter and it’s taken this long (and a lot of TLC) to get her ready for adoption! Severe upper respiratory infection; malnutrition; skin infection….this poor girl had it all when she came to us. But as you can see from the pictures, she’s a new woman now! It’s extremely difficult to guess age on dogs that have been neglected as much as poor Eedy has throughout her lifetime, but we’re going with somewhere between 9-11 years old. She definitely acts like she is on the lower end of that age range now that she’s feeling so so much better. Eedy is great with other dogs and cats, but does have a more dominant personality and so will do best with other confident dogs.   Eedy is on some medications that she will likely require for life - thyroid medicine and apoquel.  Interested in adopting Eedy and showing her that the best is yet to come in her Golden Years? Story
Belle wasn't always Belle. We originally named her Nikki when someone abandoned this tiny 9.5-pound Shih Tzu overnight on our property... in a cat carrier. She was terrified, standing in urine, and so severely matted that it took eight hours, with two people working together, to remove the mats from her legs, belly, face, ears, and back. It was one of the worst cases of neglect we've seen in such a little dog. But they could have done far worse things than dropping her off on our property, so there's that! Once the mats were gone and she had a couple of much-needed spa days, everything changed. She began trusting people, stole all of our hearts, and officially became a Canine CellMates dog when her stray hold ended. Today, Belle is settling into Beyond The Bars beautifully. She may have started out shy, but she's already decided her handler—and a few of the other participants—are pretty wonderful. Watching her confidence grow has been such a joy.
