Story
We are needing to rehome our daughter’s dog as she is unable to have him at her new home. He is six years old, friendly and housetrained. She has been unable to afford to keep up with his grooming so he is a bit shaggy at the moment since she’s been clipping it herself. He is neutered and has always been healthy.

Story
Hi, my name is Skippy and I am from Minnesota! Meet Skippy! This sweet, middle-aged gentleman is gentle, friendly, and looking for a special home. Skippy is the sweetest most friendly and gentle boy with the cutest face with his adorable underbite and darkest eyes. This little guy doesn't let his back leg issues slow him down, he loves short walks and long stroller rides. He runs around the house with his stuffies, Kongs and loves to play fetch. Skippy is potty trained and will run to the door when he has to go outside. He will dribble if he doesn't get out right away but that hasn't happened in awhile. He sleeps through the night without needing to go outside. I don't kennel him and he does fine being home alone as long as his comfy bed and toys are available. He loves curling up next to me on the sofa and he sleeps stretched out beside me on the bed. He is happiest when he's close to his people. He does really well in the car, gets along with cats and all people. He loves being around people, when left along he will bark for a couple minutes but then settles down. He barks when I get home but stops after being picked up and held for a few minutes. He would probably do best in a calm environment where he is the only dog, or with a calm older dog. Skippy does need a little extra TLC but he doesn't let anything limit his abilities. He takes his meds like a champ and sits calmly when putting socks on the back paws/ legs. This little guy is all about love and emits so much joy. Skippy will be the best life long companion . From the Vet: Skippy is a sweet, gentle soul who loves nothing more than being near his people. He is the ultimate companion, ready to curl up next to you! Skippy has Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a condition affecting his spine. Skippy will never return to normal spinal function, and he drags his back feet when he walks. To prevent scrapes and wounds, he will do best wearing protective socks on his hind paws. While his gait is unique, proper medication keeps him comfortable, highly motivated, and excited to move around! His forever family may benefit from having ramps he can use for the bed/couch to prevent him from jumping. GREAT NEWS: The 15/10 Foundation is sponsoring 6 years of reimbursement for his adopters to help cover prescription diet, pain medication, yearly exam and bloodwork (up to $850/year). Lifelong Dietary Needs: Skippy must stay on a urinary prescription diet to prevent bladder stones, likely the rest of his life. He can have other treats etc. but the best thing for him is a moisture rich diet so mixing it up with canned food or warm water or broth on kibble is a great option for him! Skippy is looking for a calm, loving home where his medical needs will be proudly managed. If you are looking for a loyal best friend and are ready to provide the attentive care he deserves, Skippy is ready to reward you with a lifetime of unconditional love.

Story
A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by The Wilbur Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $100.00 will be applied during the contract process. Hi my name is Riggy Moe and I am from Minnesota! Riggy Moe is a Senior dog, she is very sweet and adorable!! She is full of personality and she is a social gal as she likes to make new friends. She does great with my other dogs as well. She also likes going for walks when the weather is nice. She is doing well with her housetraining and her crate training, I recently have let her run of my bedroom, kitchen and she has been doing well with that. She is used to sleeping on my bed with me as I have doggy stairs for her to use and she definitely let you know her place is on the bed, I affectionately call her my Sassy Princess! She is a wonderful companion dog who already has me wrapped around her little paw as I just adore her! From the Vet: Ms. Riggy Moe is a spunky senior gal ready to find her final forever home for her golden years. She has a history of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye) and requires lifelong medication to keep her eyes comfortable and healthy. Her adopter will need to maintain consistent treatment and establish care with their primary veterinarian for ongoing eye management and monitoring. She has undergone extensive dental care, including numerous tooth extractions, to ensure her mouth is now healthy and pain-free. Upon arrival, Riggy Moe was underweight. After reaching a healthy weight, she successfully underwent surgery to repair a luxated (dislocated) left hip. She has recovered well, but her adopter should monitor her joint health long-term and keep her at a healthy weight to support mobility and comfort.

Story
In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A per-sonal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Luna is a 5 year old, 14 pound, female Shih Tzu/Poodle mix. She came into rescue because her owners couldn’t devote the necessary time that she needs. Luna is an active dog who needs exercise every day. She walks over a mile a day, enjoying all the sniffs and smells, and greeting other dogs and people. She runs outside to chase the resident rabbits and squirrels around the yard. It would be ideal for Luna to have a fenced yard, but it is not absolutely required, as long as her new family will provide the daily activity she needs. When inside, she will play fetch with a ball and her other toys. Luna is well behaved and enjoys being around her foster parents and other people and doesn’t venture outside by herself unless one of her foster parents is with her. She is just a very sweet, affectionate dog who just loves to be with her people, especially sitting on their lap. Luna needs to have someone at home the majority of the day. She is good around other dogs and would be a wonderful addition to a family with older, respectful children, where she would be the beloved family dog. She is very alert and will bark when someone is at the door or if she hears a noise outside, so it would be best if she lives in a single family home rather than a condo or townhouse with shared walls. Luna is housetrained, and currently sleeps either in her own bed or under her foster parents’ bed. Her foster family is not sure why she does this but would love for her to sleep with them in their bed. Hopefully her new family will encourage her to sleep with them as well. She knows basic commands such as sit, down, stay, and come (especially for a treat). As mentioned above, Luna must have a family in which someone is home most of the day. She does have some separation anxiety, which her foster parents are working with her to overcome. Her new family must understand this and continue to help Luna feel more secure and confident when she is left alone. In addition, she whines while riding in the back seat of the car, but probably just wants to ride in the front with her people. Luna is a delightful, sweet, affectionate girl who will bring much joy to a family. These are the requirements for her new family: 1. Someone must be home most of the day. Luna has some separation anxiety and doesn’t do well if left alone for extended periods. Integrating Luna into the family’s daily activities would be ideal. 2. A family who will provide the daily physical activity and mental stimulation that Luna needs. This includes long daily walks and playing outdoors, weather permitting. A secure, fenced yard would be great but is not a deal breaker. 3. A family with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated an understanding of how to gently and respectfully interact with a small dog will be considered. 4. Live within 30 miles of Inver Grove Heights, MN. 5. Attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each September. Luna is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $370.00 plus $33.39 sales tax for a total fee of $403.39. To meet Luna, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota at their Meet and Greet from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington, MN. But due to the 4th of July holiday, they will be at Chuck & Don’s on July 11th instead, but the first Saturday each month thereafter.

An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Are you looking for a social butterfly? A lover of children and all adults? Then look no further, Lexi is the dog you are looking for! Lexi is a 5 year old Shih Tzu/Poodle mix who just wants to be with you and follow you everywhere. She is a very adept kisser and cuddler. She is puppy-like in that she is very active and playful. Lexi loves to go on walks and greets other people and dogs like they are her long lost friend. When at home wants to be on top of you or touching you, and at night will sleep next to you in bed. Thank goodness she is only 11 pounds. Housetraining is still a work in progress, but she does know that outside is the correct place to go. Her foster mom is being consistent with taking her out on a regular, frequent schedule, which has been working well, and her adopters must continue to work with her so that she becomes reliably housetrained. This will require initially taking her out every few hours; any longer than that and she will have an accident in the house. Lexi is a happy, delightful little girl who will really will light up your life! These are the requirements for her ideal family: 1. Have an active energy level to match Lexi’s. She needs to go on a brisk walk 2-3 times a day. She also needs lots of interactive playtime. 2. Commit to continue with her housetraining, which will require being able to take her out every few hours. The family must understand that Lexi can only accomplish this with their help. 3. Be home much of the day and include Lexi in your daily activities. This will keep any separation anxiety to a minimum. 4. If the home has children they need to be over the age of 10, and understand and demonstrate how to gently and respectfully interact with a small dog. 5. Live within 40 miles of Eden Prairie, MN 6. Attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Lexi is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Because of the Independence Day holiday, the July event will be held on July 11, with the regular first Saturday schedule resuming thereafter.
